RE: Turbine or EDF
Bob it was great meeting and talking to you as well. The kit boxes (2) arrived at lunchtime today without a scratch on them and my wife was shocked at how big the boxes were getting them into my shop for me; even though she saw the finished plane at Hamburg. I just inspected the kit as the packing list requires incase anything is missing or damaged and I am really mad! The prefabrication, of the flying surfaces, plans, instruction book and glass work is done so well (as usual with BVM products) that I have very little to build. LOL!!!!!!!!! This looks like a great update to the origanal T-33 kit I built years ago for JPX T-260 power when turbines first came out. You'll love it I'm sure. Even the drop tank ez-air system is included with the EVF kit. All I am waiting on now is the retracts as they were still backordered when the kit was shipped but you don't need them to start the build.

RE: Turbine or EDF
Kirk, Have a safe trip getting here to MD and email me when you are in town so we can do the meet and greet thing at my shop. I got an email from the Land of Purple that my EVF Powered P-80 kit will be here when I get home from work tomorrow. YEA man thanks family for the B-day present!. Funny that you are going to do the TF8000 conversion as I was just thinking that just might work for my 80" F-86 if I kept it light. I have one that's NIB in my shop and I just got the fuel tanks and bypass for it last week. So now I have everything except the cockpit before I start it. I have to decide should I do the EVF P-80 first or the F-86 80" ,my F-86 60" is in primer I just ran out of time for painting it before the fall weather got here. See you soon We'll get all the jet guys together somehow before the season starts back up at Fentress you'll love it there if you can make it 8000' x 100' strip!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Bandit ARF...Any bad points.
What I see wrong is I don't have one LOL. Gentlemen lets bring back old memories; remember when the Classic Bandit was first designed in the mid ninties it was for either Viofan and a .91 or you could get it for turbine JPX T240 power, 11LBS installed thrust I measured it; there were no other turbines back then to purchase. I still have my bypass for the JPX T260 I had back then for my first Classic Bandit. Then came the Balsa Bandit and the new engines gave us 12-30 lbs of thrust; BV and I were just talking about this at the Hamburg Rally two weeks ago. When he heard I had a Classic Balsa Bandit Turbine version still in my shop that Tony Massiello built (that I got in a trade ) and in primer he asked me if I ever wanted to sell it let him know because people are still begging him to do a run of them again. Then because of wanting to carry more fuel, we got the Super Bandit's ( composite and Balsa versions) and now the Bandit ARF's; still all pretty much the same plane size and weight wise. As for me a P70 is perfect in any of them; I don't like flying at warp factor six because all you do is turns. Yes I could put in my P120 and use throttle mangement but why carry the extra weight if going 200 is not your thing and with the P70 I get to fly longer. YMMV

RE: Turbine or EDF
Here's what I know first hand. I have been flying 35 years , turbines since the JPX days and EDF's for 4-5 years now staring with flying my buddies 70mm Het planes for him at demos. I built a Kyosho T-33's with astro flight power and Kokham 3200 cells for batteries for my first EDF and flew it at the Liberty Bell Rally after hours 3 years ago. When I decided to build a large EDF I went with the BVM 4010 EVF and Electra kit as my first big EDF since I saw it demostrated at Fentrss by the Malciones 3 years ago. I decided to convert my turbine powerd BVM F-86 to EVF last year and got a 5612 for it and had my 4010 converted to 5212 just prior to the 5612's becoming availabe. I have 25 flights now on my Electra with it 7 of them at at the Hamburg Jet Rally last weekend off grass and I not sorry about anything with the setup. My wife just bought me the F-80 for my birthday and it will have what ever the latest BVM setup is for power when it is finished. BVM stuff is not the cheapest but the best never is. Bob you did the right thing you went and saw what works at the Hamburg rally and not saying that there isn't some other setup that will not work; just what I have from BVM sure does and does it well. I'm a very happy BVM customer sponcered by my wife and noone else. Flame suit on. LOL

RE: Hamburg Jet Jamboree 2009, October 9, 10 & 11
Thanks to all of the staff who pulled this years event off (espically with the first tent guy pulling out at the last minute). Jan and I had a great time with old and new friends !!!!!!!! We already made our hotel reservations for next years event! Make yours early at the Microtel right across the street from Cabella's at 61 and 78 ;ten minutes from the site to be sure too get rooms. They fill up every year with a soccer tournement and hot rod event in the area the same weekend; this year they had 52 rooms tied up for a wedding group. Even with the clouds and the rain in the morning Friday and high winds Saturday I got in 9 flights between my Reaction 54 and my BVM Electra. The Saturday evening get together in Kutztown was well done and fun also. See all of you soon. RS[:D]

You can just order the wheels/ tires as I have a set that I got for my EVF F-86. The struts will not be lighter units just the wheels/ tires. My F-80 is on the way and might get it at the Hamburg rally; it was a 4 week lead time 2 weeks ago.

Bruce Hanson in serious car accident yesterday
For all of those of you that know Bruce. I thought I should share this since we are a small community of fliers and a lot of you buy tanks from him. Bruce called me from the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore yesterday morning. He was involved in a two car accident yesterday morning and was ejected from his car onto the street during the impact. Somehow he escaped with just stiches and lots of bruses after he was flown to the hospital and examined. Turns out that the wife of a club member came by just after the wreck happend and found him on the ground bleeding and dialed 911. I spoke to him again last night as we work together and he is in good sprits but pretty sore and shaken up about the accident. As he tells the story and the conditon of the car after the wreck he is lucky to even be alive let alone only as injured as he is.

RE: BVM Electra Jet for ICDF
I have 6 flights on my electra and love it! I have the 5212 fan setup with 6500 evo 30c batteries from BVM and can tell you that the new TP40C cells on 10s with the 4010 give you the same power I have and you'll love it as well. The amount of beefing up you'll have to do will hurt the planes perfromance and then you will be unhappy try and find an older viper , aggressor or mavrick if you want to use those viofans with Ic engines. I have a friend with an origanal viper that he might sell nib.

"And a good time was had by all" Thanks to all of the workers and suppliers who support the rally besides Mike and Cindy. I got two more flights on the Electra tonight at the local club field and thanks to Joe Ralfaloski (spelling?) for the support and regulator for the gear servos. I contacted "Peter Goldsmith" at Horizon today to tell him of your support and to get your address so I can send you a regulator to replace the one you gave me at the field so I was succesful with my new plane. Count us in for next year same tent space but bringing foamies to get in on the fun at night.

JR791 retact servos voltage issue
All, today was a very frustrating day for even an experienced modeler and the first time I have ever been upset with JR as a company. First I had a JR791 fail on the bench while rigging my Electra; it's the first servo I have ever had fail in 35 years in the hobby and of course having every servo in my shop but a spare one of these got me worring. Some calls got me a new one after driving 85 miles round trip to the closest hobby shop who had one in stock today; as I am trying to get the plane flown tomorrow before the liberty bell rally. While I was there I decided to make life simple and get two of the new 6 volt DSM2 dual lead batteries from JR with the heavy duty power lead and the std size lead and install my 1221 rx as well since 9 channels made it but just with the elevator servos on a y-harness. I put the new packs on the charger asap once home and replaced the burned out servo and swapped out the 9 ch for the 12 ch RX. Much to my surprize now all of my servos are going nuts on the 6 volt packs with the retract servos really going crazy. A call to my local JR REP Troy Lawicki resulted in us spending 2 hours tracing down that the plane worked fine on 4 cell packs on either rx but now not on 5 cell packs so it was a voltage thing. Turns out the JR 791 servos have a voltage limit and to be able to use them on charged 5 cell packs you need a regulator. No where on the package for the 791 servo or on the JR web site does it give you this info. I did find it you are looking at thier regulators in the info for the 2 output regulator; it tells of the voltage limit that several products like the 791 servo has and this is the cure. So now after 3 wasted hours; my plane works fine with a 4 cell pack and the 921 RX, and I get to spend even more money on a regulator if i want to use my 791 retract servos that are installed in my plane with my 1221 RX since I need one of my $50 5 cell batteries that I have to buy use on my $220 1221rx since you can't use 4 cell packs on them . aint it great!

RE: 17TH BIG APPLE JET RALLY - JUNE 27 & 28 - OFFICIAL THREAD
Hey guys have a great time next weekend without me once again. I just got two invites to fly my jet at events back here in MD on the same weekend (my wife penciled in the wrong dates on the calander and for some reason) until today I thought this years NY event was this weekend. One at a scale event and the other is from Lee Rightler at his field in Hardford County where thay are renaming it Robert Hayes field . Robert and I were old firends and he passed away 1.5 years ago to cancer that moved very quickly just after the Liberty bell rally that year.

RE: 2008 the year of the Turbinator
I have about 50 flights on mine. I installed a P-120 and it is way overpowered. The plane flies great and many people at rallies have comented that it's shame its not a scale plane otherwise they would build one. Mine is built as per the plans other than the size of the fuel cell (100oz tank from my Roo) and the P-120 for power. The first takeoff was less than 50 feet and lands very slow with a little crow in the ailerons with 50 degrees flap. Robart gear has been ok overall but wished it was a little beefier especially the nose gear pivot axle, bent 2 of these and now carry a spare one with me. I took out the main gear mounts on a bad cross wind landing at too high a desent rate and glassed the section when I reienstalled the gear mounts, that's the only section I would beef up on the plane. Nick was working on a two piece wing but don't know if he finished it yet.
