This is classic design and construction for the era, very nice. I remember reading about it back in the day. Does anyone know how the name is pronounced it looks like Bell-Air but I know that is wrong. Also what is the wing area? thanks

RE: kraft Signature Series Jacket
I have the first version of the jacket, have to see if I can find it, still have all the Kraft Signature Series radio (1976) stuff. the dryer got to mine also! How did the jacket and radio change over the years and what was the last year for the KSS? I loved being able to order the Xmitter with switches placed exactly where you wanted them and those wonderful sticks... wish I could get them on my JR!!

RE: phoenix ARF
Your correct Tony, I built many P7's back in the 70's they all cost more and took more time to finish. I would buy this kit again at this price, gut it and build it how I want and still be money and time ahead and mine flies great also.

RE: phoenix ARF
I agree Hook, I would have been very surprised if the ARF was perfect for that price. I feel it's a good value for the price, that said I think I would prefer a lot less pre-fab and better quality. I have two of the first kits to arrive. Once the construction bugs were worked out I have a very good, not perfect flying P7. Would I buy another? Yes I would but I'm glad I didn't sell my P8 and P7 kits because when I want a perfect version I can build it myself. I'm still glad H9 gave this option to us and hope it works out.

RE: Great Pattern Video
I agree with you about Wolfgang Matt , my sons and I drove to Muncie to watch the semi finals on Sunday, while entering the Holiday Inn to check in a gentleman was caught up in the door carrying a fuse. I held the door for him and noticed he wore a Lichtenstein team shirt, I said "You guys are from the land of Wolfgang Matt" (thinking he would appreciate me recognizing their legendary pilot) he turned around and said "I am Wolfgang Matt" he looked great and I was nearly speechless. He was in 8th place at the time... think about that! It was a wonderful experience watching world class pilots fly and our guys looked great.

RE: Illusion
I agree on $425, not a BAD price considering the extras that came with it. I have a NIB Illusion I would not take $375 for it, if it was for sale, going to build it this winter.

RE: Engine dies during Running 8 pushover
Hi Dave, it's amazing how a fuel tank setup can work perfectly in every situation except one. I Had the same experience today with my new Hangar9 Phoenix7. I rebuilt the tank floor from the factory setup to get perfect tank position and today while test flying the plane my buddy and I both commented about the very consistent needle setting from full to empty and every attitude, we flew every type maneuver to check the tank position and it worked perfect except for the last quarter of the slow roll. It will consistently hiccup but keep running. It does not hiccup on the eight point roll!. Conclusion, the clunk weight is to light and not keeping up with the fuel when the attitude changes slowly. you may have a similar problem. Oh BTW I love the Hangar9 Phoenix7, I flew the original in contest in the 70's. Good Luck

RE: Ratchet Roll?
I tried the ratchet roll over the weekend and after doing 40 years of traditional 4, 8 and slow rolls I'm having to work on getting my head around this, has something to do with "old dogs, and tricks or something" I'm going to work on it till I get it. PS wouldn't be fun if it was easy

RE: Ratchet Roll?
That video version is not very interesting to me. If you can get two complete rotations why would you need a ratchet? It is just full rolls and point rolls in sequence. Doing the ratchet the same as you would with a wrench IS interesting to me. Perhaps that's why is not well known. I will play around with this next time out.

RE: Ratchet Roll?
Jon I haven't entered a contest since 79, but I love precision aerobatics, This is one of those maneuvers that grows on you as you think about it. I wonder what the Aresti diagram for a 1/8 ratchet 4 pt roll would look like. Any IMAC folks want to give it a shot? PS now I cant visualize this maneuver with out hearing a dam ratchet click !

RE: Ratchet Roll?
Looks like you are the expert! At least you have heard of it. First time I have heard of it. I'm as curious as you are. It is interesting that if centered and same time as normal 4pt you can not stop rolling. Do it with a stick plane looks neat. I will try it next time out. But it seems for a left ratchet 4 pt you have to start with a ratchet 1/8 right then to the 6, ratchet 1/8 right then to the 9 ect

Weighed it on my digital scale, same as advertised weight of the 4" true turn on their website 5.4oz. Think they changed the source for these spinners? This spinner looks exactly like all of my True Turn spinners machined in and out and back plate!

RE: Kirkland Nutcracker Pattern Plane
Mike P That is a very interesting bit of information about the Nutcracker and Jim. If you can will you find out if the designer "evolved" the Nutcracker from Jims Intruder? I flew the Nutcracker in contest prior to switching to the Phoenix series and loved it, it has no bad tendencies at all. I have the Wing Kit also and look forward to building and flying it.
