RE: Rcbif's 31cc Ryobi Gasser Airboat Project
That engine sounds good. What are the dimensions of your boat? It looks big.

RE: Velocity..the newest addition to the fleet.
WOW[X(] a band saw , i thought that that kind of saw would leave saw teeth marks in the ABS . Very straight cutting. Good work M8.

That is looking good. It looks like a CNC machine has done the cutting. Q: How did you cut the notch on the transom? Very neat.

I built this one a few years ago. It ran well with a .25 engine. [image]http://www.rc-airboats.com/gallery/albums/Roundnose-Hydro/R0015094.sized.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.rc-airboats.com/gallery/albums/Roundnose-Hydro/R0015120.sized.jpg[/image]

RE: right front dips on plain?
It sounds like prop torque, if your boat is pulling to the right you might want to try to point your engine to one side. I have tried this with my boats and have had some success.

RE: Canard style Airboat
Ok I have tweeked the sponsons. Lifted the rudder, the boat ran a lot better. But I still have trouble turning. So I shaved the corners on the sponsons with a hand planner to try to stop the sponsons from digging in when turning. Well It worked and worked well. Now I can turn without the boat comming of the plane. In the first part of the vid you can see the boat bogging down in the turns , the second part the boat stays on the plane. I use the 3003 servoes and they work for me. But Stalling the servo can't be good for the servo. I would up grade.

I have lengthened th sponsons by 50mm. And I want to attach a larger turn fin to the front sponson. I will be going for a test run next Sunday. Hope to post some vid then.
Have any pictures of a side profile view of the boat?
Not yet maybe later. Try to get a pic of the side and rear. Nigel H. That looks like a fast running boat. My boat is still in the testing stage. I still have some probs with the turns.

RE: Canard style Airboat
I was using a 4kg servo I have a 11kg servo that I will try. I also want to try a shorter rudder, say a 75mm insted of the 120mm rudder that I am using. As for the storm it was half an hour away and going away from me. I was standing under a bigger conducter our metal shed.[:(] Well I am still here.[:D]

RE: Canard style Airboat
Maybe if the rear sponsons had more of an angle on the side, they would lift more in the turns.
This is one option that I have. I am also thinking of duel rudders, one on each sponson. Or a front rudder so the stern can slide around. Still more testing to do.

RE: Canard style Airboat
They taper from front to just before the stern then it steps up and tapers out to the stern. When turning At high speeds the sponsons seem to dig in and that causes the boat to loose speed making the turns very slow. This is a pic that shows the sponsons. Canard style Airboat
Out of all the RC Airboat hulls that I have seen I have not seen a working Canard style boat before. So I built one out of some old hulls that I had lying around. The basic idea works but I am having trouble with the turns. This is the first boat that fights me in the corners. She just wants to run straight. But she has a lot of potential for a fast boat. This vid shows me driving and videoing at the same time. So the driving is a bit slow. The boat is powered by a OS .55 engine with a 11x6 prop. Nice boat Mr Cajun Gator I like it, I like the way it slides in the corners. You have control at all times. What size pusher prop are you using?

RE: OS 25 powered Minikaze
which is correct?
You just have to try different positions. Because each boat is different. My last two flat bottomed boats bounced around at the bow a lot. I tried angling the engine up like in your first pic and it just made the boat jump around a lot more. So I went the other way and angled the engine down. And with the engine angling down the boat runs flat and straight. The trial and error method has shown me that each boat is different. The best starting point is mount the engine level with the hull. And then tweak from their.

RE: OS 25 powered Minikaze
HI there M8 Looks like you have a great boat their. You have done a great job on the build M8. Those .25s can run quite hard and fast. You should get about 30mph from that hull and engine combo. Just a thought, the original copy boat ran with a water rudder. Your boat has an air rudder! The water rudder gives you more drag at the stern thus pushing the bow down. , allowing for fast straight line runs. Your boat might bounce around a bit, because of the air rudders not providing enough downward thrust at the bow. If this happens don't worry, just tilt the engine down a bit and your boat will run flat and fast. I know because I have built a boat very similar. Now you must show us some vids of this boat in action in the water [:D]

If you have an OS .25 then use a 9x5 prop.

RE: just got .25 engine what size hull?
The Cajun Gator build works and works well. I have built one and a .25 would be a good starting point for this hull.

RE: just got .25 engine what size hull?
I would build a hull around 24 x 10 , this is a good size for the .25. I have built a boat around this size and it is very quick with the .25 . I would not want the hull to be any smaller.

I Mostly build my boats from scratch. And the feeling when watching my boats run across the water is awesome. Even if they are a bit less than perfect.[:D] I like to build .

RE: WALKERA -STAY AWAY FROM
And have you noitced how the people that say that walkera are crap cant even fix them
I can repair / rebuild the Walkera heli all day long. But as soon as I touch the RX on the 5#10 I have problems. I have brought three 2.4 GHz RXs for the 5#10 and I have had problems. I can't work out what is going wrong. The 5#10 is one of the best heli in its class except for the 2.4GHz Rx. I had a lot less problems with Fm Rx on the old 5#4. I understand that the heli does wear out that’s why I buy at least one each year. If I saved all my money instead of buying Walkera I could have brought a copterx black angle and had some money spare.
