RE: MVVS 2.5 (.15)
Modified engine (sleeve, case, piston, crank), MVVS venturi (enlared to 6mm), Rossi .15 one piece pipe (shortened slightly), 80/20 castor fuel, APC 6.5x5.5 slightly cut down. 26.500 rpm Haven't run the engine in years, but there's still more to be had IMO with some nitro and custom head buttons...but that was beyond my capabilities at that time.

RE: Magnum ALA Vicman
The only thing I've ever had flutter on was the barndoor ailerons on a 100" Telemaster, controlled by ONE servo you wouldn't use for your throttle these days. And that was in a dive. If the structure is sound, the linkage tight, and the servo up to the job...I really don't see a sharp TE edge going into flutter. Other than that, I agree with CP: it looks sharper when it's sharp! RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I've just about had it with the google translated russian about marriage and life. Now, what I would like to hear about is the engines that apparently are eating up the crankpin. I'm looking into one of the 20cc gassers, but those reports of busted crankpins within the first gallon got me thinking I'll probably be beta-testing for Evolution if I buy one of these. Anybody have any info about how big the needle bearing in the 10cc is, and how it stacks up to the 15 and 20cc engines?

Your twin was EPIC Evan... still remember the noise from the vid... awesome sound (2 two-strokes slightly out of tune) Those were MVVS's, right?

RE: OUTLAW from EXTREME FLIGHT
And I really want to see an Outlaw doing 180 on 1000W... no way... doesn't matter which way you prop it, and what motor you have... it won't happen

RE: OUTLAW from EXTREME FLIGHT
Don't trust those prop calc programs. They work for 'regular' setups.... if you go overboard, the data is false. For high hp (watts) high rpm setups you can go 150% over the limits posed by these calculators... easily...just buy a quality motor... a good motor can be pushed at least twice as hard as advertised (burst, 10seconds or less)...

RE: Screamin Demon w/West 50V1 with tuned pipe question
Just bend the pipe coupler some if all alse fails. It doesn't hurt, except for the coupler blowing out after 200+ flights. If it blows earlier you have your pipe spaced too wide from your header anyway. That engine is not that hot. Don't move the fins, there's no need to. Get some proper silicone tubing for a coupler...don't skimp and use cheap stuff...it doesn't last...

RE: Nelson q40 or 500 on 30%
You should be looking at more prop, not more rpm. The use of nitro will increase torque and thus power at a given rpm, but these engines are designed to run at a specific rpm range, so you should try to keep them there.

I know... But I don't know the first thing about what it takes to build a good rod. And I'm pretty sure Dub does.

Custom connecting rod
Hi Bob, Simple question: would Dubb machine me a couple of custom rods if I very kindly asked him to do so? [;)] I've got an old Webra DF engine here that was renowned for throwing rods apparently... there were aftermarket 'rpm' rods available in those days... I'm sure he could make me most anything, for a price... [:D]

Chuck, I don't have a 90LX, so I don't know how 'fairly high' it's timed... [:D] That's why I asked. The stock 90LX sure has some nice potential then! Indeed Dub knows what he's doing, and makes a very nice product.

RE: OUTLAW from EXTREME FLIGHT
thx... Well, not 100% really, my ankle is messed up...and it will only get worse with time unfortunately (massive osteoarthritis)... But I can still hop around a little ;-) I ordered the Outlaw from 3 different shops that were supposed to have them in stock, but apparently stocks have just about dried up everywhere! So I gave up on the Outlaw, and ordered me a Mini Velocity from Weston today. Let's hope that one actually shows up (FAST! [8|] ). Too bad, since I really had my mind set on an Outlaw...it has that extra dimension with the rudder... If someone happens to know a shop that still has one...drop me a line ;-)

RE: Diamond Dust Fin angle?
Are you worried about flight characteristics? If so, don't be...because it doesn't really matter. It should be somewhere in the 10 to 15 degree area, but I'll check my plans and get you the correct angle...if someone doesn't beat me to it ;-)

RE: OUTLAW from EXTREME FLIGHT
Decided to get back into the hobby after a few years of abscence. Figured the Outlaw would be a good way to get some stick time again [;)] And a cheap thrill at that too... [:D] Ordered me a nice piped WEST .36 (rpm version) for power, I think it'll fit the plane and it's intended purposes nicely. Added a couple of reasonably fast Graupner digital servos...from the vids I've seen, this thing can use some fast servos. So now I have to wait until the end of the week for my stuff to arrive...if it all gets here on time, I could probably test fly this weekend (hopefully). I'll add my 0.02 to the thread if I run into anything particular during the assembly...video will probably be posted on Youtube...
ORIGINAL: C_Roundy Here's a tuning run clip of my Jett 90, there's a little more rpm going on here[sm=49_49.gif]! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j4nFcZXsk4 BSE, FIRE, 90LX, modified marine pipe, blank (unsharpened) 9''x12'' carbon prop, Wildcat 15/18%, 58 degrees f., about 50 ft. above sea level, 19,800 rpm. Remember kids, always wear your hearing protection[sm=50_50.gif]!
Damn Chuck, what did you do to that .90 to get it up to nearly 20.000 rpm? Was the engine modified in any way? A pressure spike which floods the engine and causes it to lean out or die... That sounds pretty contradictory to me... :D

The video is pretty funny IMO... tell "Henry" to use the zoom, and to aim for the plane... :p Henry's accent is hilarious... sounds like "Borat"... :D The West sounds pretty healthy! A full 8.8x8.5, that's quite a bit of prop! It seems to turn up great.

RE: AKM SU-27 Flanker-Does Look Good
ORIGINAL: jodini Well, I think replacing the fiberglass hinges is not a bad idea. I tried a few different options on mine and then decided that the heavy duty debro hinges worked best. I wanted something that would vibrate and really solid. I also monocoated the seam, which I think helps. I flew my SU-27 with good success since I built it in June 2007, but was never happy with that EVO 1.00 so I broke down and bought a JETT .90. Well now I have the power, but tons of flutter too. It crashed into a tree last time and the thing has been rebuilt a few times. I'm going to give it one more shot.....and here's my mods. I sheeted the stab with 1/16 basswood. The balsa was very soft on mine and it's broke twice from the flutter. Also, I'm trying a new position on my elevator servos. I hope it works....we'll see! ser00.....BTW, I was incorrect when I said 4" in both directions. I think it's more like 2.5. It's somewhere in this thread.
Jodini, When you slot the hinges, you have to make a cutout in both the stabilizer and the elevator for the hinge, so that both surfaces can be mounted without a gap. It'll work better, and look a lot better too...

RE: Outlaw with webra .36 problems
ORIGINAL: newflyer Danno, that is what I am thinking too. I just bought 2 new butane cans and a brass stinger that is 5/16" and another one that is 3/8". The one that we have on the motor now is 1/4". I think it is causing too much back pressure and it is causing the motor to get too much fuel and the needle can't lean it out. Newflyer
Your stingers do look kinda small, and very long... But too much tankpressure making it impossible for you to run your engines rich? No way...when you close the needle you will effectively shut off the fuel supply, no matter what pressure...
