RE: RCM plans service sucks
The last two times I've ordered from them, it's taken almost six weeks to receive my order, SIX WEEKS! There's absolutely no excuse for that kind of poor service in this day and age. I will NEVER order from them again!!! I tried calling them but both lines were always busy. They do not answer emails either. So screw'em... RS

hllywdb, I started with 3 shims, then went to two and now I'm only using one. The engine at this point has about 30 minutes run time. What is the normal break-in time for these engines? The instructions say "approximately 15 Minutes"? RS

Andy, Where can I get the header & pipe for the Norvel .074? Mine, with stock muffler, is only doing slightly over 15,000 on apc 7x3, and 30% nitro. I'm very disappointed with the performance of this engine. RS

RE: 18 volt battery for your starter
KitBuilder, Don't go with a hand pump for fuel. Just use a small, about 1000 mah, 3S Lipo battery for your electric fuel pump. I charge mine about once a month and I'm a two or three day a week flyer. Also, a 4S Lipo for your starter is the only way to go. Gobs of power, light weight, and many starts between charges. RS

RE: Foam cores
ORIGINAL: flyingagin Yeah longdan  I do need to turn up the voltage. The proplem with that is the templates are just plywood, so that sets an upper limit.
Plywood templates work great if you apply a thin strip of furnace tape around the edge. The hot wire will glide right over it and it works just as good as Formica and much easier to make. I can't take credit for this idea though because I learned about it here on RCU. RS

RE: Mounting a Dual Miracle Switch With Fuel Dot ???
I mounted one in the instrument panel of this Flybaby. You can barely see it in this photo, but it just seemed like right place to mount it. If I were mounting the switch on the fuselage side, I would go with two traditional switches because the Miracle switch is so large.

I run all of my YS engines ( 63, 110, 160) inverted and they all run perfectly fine in that position. Fuel tank position doesn't matter on the pressurized or pumped fuel systems used by YS.

RE: how to break-in a magnum engine
Well, I have a Magnum 25 XLS that I've been running for a year now and I didn't have any of those problems. I ran a couple of tanks through it on my test stand, following the break-in instructions and mounted it in a plane. The engine has performed perfect ever since. Great idle, great transition, and a screaming top end. I guess I got lucky. RS

RE: Need some ideas on putting balsa on foam wings.
WBG, I recently built a Black Magic pattern plane and Mike Hester, the designer recommended using hair spray on the balsa skins as a sealer. It's supposed to save weight by preventing too much glue from soaking into the soft, contest balsa. Weight control is critical when building a pattern plane as you know. I followed Mike's instructions and used the hairspray along with Gorilla glue and my Black Magic finished out well within the weight limit. I don't know if the hairspray worked, I'm just saying...RS

RE: Need some ideas on putting balsa on foam wings.
I've had great results using Gorilla glue. Spread a thin layer of it on the skins with a credit card and follow that with a small foam roller to pick up the excess. Place the skins on the core, in the shucks on a flat surface and weight it down over night. It's inexpensive, adds very little weight, and results in a very strong bond.

RE: Balsa Wood supplier
I buy most of my wood from Lone Star since I live within driving distance from them, but for my last order, I ordered from National Balsa. I needed light weight, contest wood and Lone Star did not have any. So, I submitted a good size order ($200) over National Balsa's web site. I then received an email from them within 2 hours that my order had already shipped. Very impressive service and great wood selection. Will definitely use them again. RS

The stringers have to be capped with balsa strips to make them even with the sheeting. Is that what you're asking?

RE: Ace 25% Extra 230 Build
RTN9105, I don't have pictures of the actual construction, but I can tell you how I did mine. I cut the hatch in half at the instrument panel location and added a 1/8 inch balsa floor extending the length of the hatch. At the rear, I added two balsa uprights, glued to the balsa floor, one at the back of the cockpit and one at the rear of the hatch. These two uprights were then sheeted over with 1/16" balsa. Adding 1/8" balsa sides from the instrument panel to the rear of the cockpit conpleted it. The whole thing took less than an hour and makes a very rigid structure, more so once the canopy is glued on. RS

Did you have the receiver mounted in a way to protect it from vibration? I've seen one AR7000 quit working on a gas powered plane because the receiver was only mounted with Velcro. Fortunately, the failure occured on the ground.
