RE: Spektrum Makes Good!
Andy: A couple years ago, the very nice Mr. [link=http://www.thebuildingboard.com/2012/02/spektrum-makes-good.html]John Adams[/link] hosted a symposium at Toledo where he explained that HH could have gone with freq. hopping because the technology was already there. Instead, they chose to develop the much more robust DSM & DSM2 systems. Frequency hoping had been around since WWII and the other manufacturers sold a concept that had known issues. Now, DSMX is recommended for people who fly in very crowded, noisy environments. That said, are there scenarios where DSM2 is actually better than DSMX? Should we be hoarding those discontinued receivers and transmitters since there's absolutely nothing wrong with them?

RE: Spektrum Makes Good!
ORIGINAL: AndyKunz As noted in the same thread you started in RCG, ''nothing more than your word'' is incorrect - there's 10 hours of tech time on that invoice. Andy
Let's assume for the discussion that they did perform 10hrs of work (and got it back in the mail the same day). If they found something wrong, they are keeping quiet about it. If, as they are insisting, there are no problems and they replaced everything, they are indeed going by my word.

RE: Spektrum Makes Good!
We couldn't be happier with our new radios. You have to search long and hard for problems people claim to have had with the AR600X or DSMX. There are far more complaints from users of products from other manufacturers. That's pretty impressive given HH's market share. Even some of the early critics of Spektrum now claim that they have hit a home run with their latest offering. http://youtu.be/fQKoXpj-FeI

Well, they didn't tell me to send the radios back. We just did.

Spektrum Makes Good!
After a few crashes and many lockouts at an AMA sanctioned contest this past September in Muncie, I waded tepidly into the DSMX discussion and wondered if there might be other reasons for the switch in addition to the official line which goes something like: We only recommend it if you fly in venues where there are a LOT of other flyers flying simultaneously and even then it isn't really all that necessary. Weighing in were some polite and very technically oriented forum readers who suggested that: I hadn't been paying attention to my voltages (they checked good post crashes), I was installing my receivers in carbon fuselages (they were all balsa & fabric), or I didn't understand how speed controllers etc. affect signals (why would I care? These models were powered by glow or diesel engines and many of the lockouts occurred when they were gliding). Furthermore, while each accident happened with many spectators, there were seldom more than 5 other flyers in the air at the time. Often, we were alone. Inevitably, the discussion degenerated into cheer leading in a manner reminiscent of and with the same lack of logic as that attending to professional ball games. When I called Horizon, they seemed to be feigning empathy but seriously wanted to get as much information from me as possible. All I got was: I might have been better off with 5 cell packs in all of my planes... In desperation, I packed up all of my A500 receivers and my DX8. My dad did the same with his AR500s. We just couldn't be certain of problems with other receivers. The AR500 may be the sole culprit and not DSM2; I acknowledge that. Well, faster than we expected, we both received boxes from Horizon. The photos show that they replaced all of my AR500s with the latest 6 channel receiver. My father had the same experience AND they sent him a brand new DX6i (with the X on the front of the case where DSM2 used to be.) So flame away. Tell me that they replaced >$1,500 worth of equipment based on nothing more than our word. In their defense though, I really doubt you could expect this from any foreign based companies. Yeah I know, my DX8 is made in China but at least I was able to call someone in Illinois and talk to him even though he hesitated to say anything conclusive. We may not be the most technically oriented modelers and we have very few notable accomplishments but we aren't just passing through and there are at least a dozen characters in Do You Speak Model Airplane? who know us.

Midwest Champs
On years when the SAM Champs is held in Las Vegas, [link=http://www.modelenginecollectors.org/]MECA[/link] hosts a Midwest Champs at Muncie for the benefit of those unable to make the trip west and for those who'd like to fly in a warm up event before the real Champs. [link=http://www.thebuildingboard.com/search?q=2011+midwest+champs]At this site[/link], I've posted a couple hundred photos from the 2011 Midwest Champs

I don't think you'll notice much difference with the [link=http://www.thebuildingboard.com/2010/08/model-builder-dragonfly-first-flights.html]Dragonfly[/link]. It's kind of draggy and would require a lot of streamlining before you'd notice.
