RE: F18F 1/8 and G-booster130+
Hi Peter, Your G-booster with 14kg is really more than enough for nice scale flying. I flew mine with the old TJT3000 30lbs thrust turbine with SM F-18F. I later found that my engine was not producing 13kg thrust, but she still flew although more slower! She is a floater on finals. I am getting my turbine sorted out as i type. You can go check out Michel Durand's many videos on his F18F with the super eagle 30lbs thrust turbine and it already proves it flies well with it. You will definitely love this Super Hornet, be sure to put C.G. at 130mm for maiden flight, it saved my jet, thanks to Michel's advice :) Cheers!

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Finished paintwork, fully airbrush weathered, turbine installed, fired up and taxi tests done before maiden flight... Sidewinder missiles were scratch-built from balsa and birch ply. Overall it was a very satisfying project over these few months. It may take long for me but i work slow anyway LOL! I am not an experienced jet flyer, only a novice, but i enjoy painting aircrafts and weathering them. I have a lot to learn from jet gurus here in this great forum. Cheers All! [;)]

Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Hi all, This is my 2nd turbine jet build and painting job. It's the SkymasterJet's 1/8th scale F/A-18F Super Hornet. I bought it unpainted and have decided on the Black Aces VFA-41 squadron based on USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. I took me about 9 months from start of project till maiden flight which was on 31st May 2009. [color=#000099]I want to publicly thank Michel Durand for his great advises on my jet setup prior to maiden flight. RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Thanks Harley, This setup is so cool! Simple installation and low parts count. Sorry, i did not spend a lot of time on forums, didn't know this setup is available. I did lookef at Tamjet's online website and saw this little trigger device you just shown, didn't know it was for this setup. I presume this servo is moving at a slower speed? as some time is needed for retracts to go up and down. Thanks Chad (SinCityJet)! :)

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Thanks Kelly :) Yes i know i need the cockpit and pilots to complete it. I am saving again to get this! LOL. Yes you are correct, i may need to add some weight to the nose, just a little bit. But it is flying well at this C.G. setting. Pitch control is neutral. Again i only used half flaps for take-off, i should try it with full flaps on next flight. it should rotate better with less of the 'cobra' maneuvre. Gears were down throughout the flight due to my gear valve spring too weak. I did up my own gear/door manual sequencing device. I assigned the landing gear switch to the "3-position" flight mode switch, using just 1 Hitec HS645MG servo, i can control gears up/down and doors open/close with this "3-position" toggle siwtch on my transmitter. It is fully manual control. I have since changed out the weaker spring to a stronger one and it is working much better now. I am attaching a drawing of my design here. Pls feel free to copy and use, for those who would like to safe some money on the latest electronic 5-way sequencers. Regards, Steven Wong

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Thank You Charles, Jeff, Michel and Nuno for your kind words and encouragements! :) Michel, if i can fly half as good as you, i would be a very happy bunny[:)]. I am low on jet stick-time, so need to work on that, now that i've flown her once, i am more comfortable with the way she handled in the air, pitch control is still very neutral even with c.g. at 130mm. Thanks again! Hi Charles, What i meant was i use "Epson" brand transparencies films for overhead projector. I place these films into the Hewlett Packard Color LaserJet 4550N printer and print the artwork (reversed) , why i do it this way, it is so that the logos and insignias face the inside, i will then spray-paint the base color on the inside of this film, let dry, before sticking onto aircraft surface with 3M sprayglue can. All my decals (Epson transparencies) are done this way. No i did not use Krylon, i use acrylic-based automotive car paints color-matched at the paintshop for all the colors as well as clearcoat matt finish, it is kerosene fuel-resistant. Take a look at this "100" logo for the flaps, after printout, i have to spray-paint the grey color underneath, let dry, before gluing onto actual flaps. Than final clearcoat matt finish. It is slower process, but the outcome is ok for me! Hi Nuno, I use the "Pasche" single-action airbrush for all surface weathering. Certain areas were masked before airbrushing to create oil stains seeping out from hydraulic cyliners, i.e. leading-edge slats, flaps and aileron hinge areas, underbelly turbine oil stains. It is not very difficult to create the effects, just get a cheap airbrush and have a go! There are lots of videos on Youtube regarding airbrushing techniques.[;)]

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Now-defunct TJT3000 bench-tested extensively before installation into jet. Pretty old turbine but a very reliable one. I also installed the Skywriter smoke system, smoke tank is a small little 24 oz capacity, good for only 1 minute 15 seconds of smoke... LOL!

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
I used CAD software to produce all the fonts and insignias for this jet. It is time-consuming but worth every bit of it. I use overhead projector films as decals. After i sprayed the clearcoat matt finish, the decals did not wrinkle.

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
I forgot to mention that i like to do airbrushing and painting, have been doing airbrush since young age. Tamiya plastic model planes etc... Instead of using the BVM Heatshield, i got another type of heatshield from the local car shop, it's auliminium coated with ceramic with adhesive on one side, excellent heat rejection, the top and side of the aft fuse was totally cool to the touch. SmartFly "Power Expander Pro" was used, powered by 2 pieces of 5-cell 2400mah Sanyo Ni-Cad Sub-C batteries. ECU battery is also this same type but with 6-cells. Transmitter used during maiden was my 7-yr-old and trusted JR 9X with Spektrum 2.4Ghz module, receiver is the JR RD921 9-channels 2.4Ghz with 3 remote receivers. Front steering arm is by AirWild.

Full Nav and Strobe lighting using ultra-bright LEDs bought at local electrical shop. Got the shop to do a simple timer circuit board for the strobing effect at both rudders. It's powered by a 3-cell lithium-polymer battery, which also powers the Skywriter smoke pump.

RE: Skymaster F/A-18F Super Hornet 1/8 scale build and paintjob
Thank You F18DiamondBack :) I am very happy to know that this airframe is very light, total all up weight is 16kg (35.2 lbs) dry. My turbine is the now-defunct TJT3000 producing 30lbs of thrust, just nice for scale flying. Some internal pictures, it is very neatly fabricated. Carbon-reinforced at many places.

Last Go To The Next Level !!
Hi Guy's The emotions are high here in Ireland and around the world about my Shockwave 36 ILL PADRINO II. I have made this Boat like this because at home (Curacao Island in the Caribbean) i use to run in the same kind of Cigarette Boats Dubble V8 1000 Hp +. Here in Ireland we cant do this kind of joke, there is no place to enjoy a big Boat like this. Curacao Island have nice beaches and nice coast to enjoy your Power Boat and also you just drive in to any Hotels or the Harbour and step out and you are in the heart of the City Town Willenstad. So that is a bit story about this Boat. Well I receive the Geko 101 GPS today and also the Dog Drive so I'm ready to go'. I will try to do a run test this weekend and make some adjustment to be ready for the Judgement Day. The Engine is on one ring and the Fuel Cooling system and a Highrizer on the Carb to take the Wind Stream of the Maindeck Air Scoop. As soon I'm ready i will present the speed limit and distance time and ofcourse a video on YouTube and a link here. there are som company after me about this and i will present a nice presentation for all you. Ones again, Thank you very much for all your coments and supports. Last Go' To The Next Level. Robert Kroonsalsbach. Gheers. Note: there is something more to come for the final toch.
