Apparently, Behotec makes retracts that fit the Tucano, as well as struts and a nosewheel. May be worth looking at them. You want the C50 retract.

RE: 2 death 4 wounded in model airplane crash
We had a potentially life threatening incident at a Jet & Large Scale Fly-In recently. A 1/3 scale Wilga had just completed an aerotow when the pilot, who is very experienced and safe pilot, suddenly lost all comms with the model. The model circled under free flight for 5 minutes before descending in a lazy spiral earthwards. At one point it looked like the model would crash into the pits

RE: 1/4 scale sea fury
Me to but have yet to find an off-the-shelf canopy specifically for the Sea Fury. I have gone with a 1:4 P-51 canopy that is almost the same. I figured that it would really only be the front windscreen that would be substantially different since the Malcom Hood was standard issue at the time. Mine is not for scale competition but rather as a show plane. I have installed a ZDZ160 for mojo and the Custom Retracts from Oz to take the bounce. JR8411's all round for RC control. Fuz is complete, wings are at the sheeting stage. Hope to get the beast ready by Sept. Where are you getting your 8" spinner?

Hey Nev You know with all these power shortages we have to run everywhere. Good for the legs. Peggy? Don't get those down here, maybe we're too far from source? May have to put 2 x 12kgs in there to get performance. Hoping to have prototype ready by September for our annual trip to Outies. Rgds R

A buddy of mine is scratch building a 1:4 MB326. He plans to do a fully molded model and may in future offer a kit. Question is: will a 26lb turbine be up to the job of powering this model?

Spinners
I am building a 1:4 Hawker Sea Fury (115" w/span) from the Jerry Bates plans. These call for an 8.5" spinner, which is larger than the regular manufacturers (TruTurn, etc) make. Anyone know someone who makes a spinner close to that size? I am trying to avoid having to make my own plug and mold. Thnx

RE: Schultze Charger Problem
I have also experienced problems with the Schultze and NiMH batteries. I tried to condition a Tx pack (1500mAh, NiMH) using the DC pogram and short leads (5 cm) as recommended. It dischages fine but always shows "Error 41" i.e.time out on the charge cycle. Tested the leads on a NiCad pack and it worked just fine. It is very frustrating. Ross

BMT120KS Arrives
I collected my brand new (well apart from setup bench running) BMT120KS today. What a great piece of kit. The quality is superb and hats off to Andre' for being the first to produce a kerosene start turbine. Watching the motor auto start on kerosene never ceases to amaze me as I have been brought up on propane gas starting right from my early homebuilt days. How far we have come in this amazing hobby in 5 years![:D] The motor clocks 120N at 120K rpm and is capable of being wound up to 130K in jurisdictions where that is legal, I believe in the USA the motor is AMA approved at 120N and so has ECU restrictions on the max RPM. Fortunately I live in one of those places that has not had too many restrictions placed on the operation of miniature gas turbines and so will be able to get up to 160N out of my motor. This will power my Airworld L-39 very nicely.[:D] Some photos for those of you who are interested in the BMT. Enjoy!

RE: DG - 800 Repair Advice Request
Some people like to jig the fuselage into a straight position and open up the cracks with a Dremel cut-off wheel. Then seal the outside of the cracks with masking tape. Then glass the inside area with 1 layer heavy glass (2 oz is OK) followed by a larger layer of lighter glass (3/4 oz is ok). The cracks then fill nicely with resin and the cloth adds the strength. Final finish can be achieved with a good sand and fill with Car Body filler. Alternatively, if the cracks are light you can get away with using cyno to glue them and follow the glass cloth route on the inside. I've done both and both have worked well. I don't usually apply glass to the outside unless the fuselage has snapped in half because hiding the outer cloth is difficult.

I faced the same problem when deciding to repaint my orange Eurosport. I wanted to do the RAF black scheme of DA2 but chickened out of the all black scheme and went for the scheme in the photo. RE: Yellow aircraft stingray
Kelly I'll try it out in early November as I only get to fly jets every now and then when I can arrange time at a full size runway. My club runway is too restrictive. I may make up my own tank using the "lost foam" method. I've done it before and it works real well. The moaning sound may be coming from you motor! My Wren 54 has a hash howl to it and this is caused, according to Andre Baird of BMT, by the compressor wheel not being tight on the shaft - it is only a push on fit whereas BMT prefers to have such a tight tolerance that the compressor wheel must be heated to be pushed onto the shaft. You may also be experiencing the same with your PST. But it is also possible that the motor sitting out in the breeze like that is causing the sound but I cannot remeber hearing any of the KJ60 derivative motors making that noise on a Kangaroo so probably not. My bet is we both have motors that are not manufactured to close enough tolerances for perfect running but they are good enough for what we want to do with them. As a matter of interest, my new Wren MK3 kit has a compressor wheel that is a very tight fit and will require heating to get it onto the shaft. Maybe Wren discovered the problem? As soon as it is assembled I'll report on its running characteristics. It will be test flown on my Stingray but is ultimately destined for my MR Venom. Rgds Ross

RE: Yellow aircraft stingray
I agree with Kelly's remarks about the Stingray. I have one with a Wren 54 for power and it is a good flyer. The Stingray is a good value kit IMHO but one tip I would add is to buy the YA conformal tanks for the plane as the 2 x 20oz Dubros tanks I use are not enough for a decent length flight. is also fairly robust, mine having suffered several dead stick landings as I sorted out the fuel system (bubbles stop a turbine very fast) but has stayed together pretty well. BTW cured the bubble problem by replacing the center pickup tube in the hopper with a standard clunk arrangement but using a weed eater motor felt clunk - no bubbles get thru that filter. Cheapest insurance I have found for a turbine model[:D] Another issue I have discovered after 30+ flights is that the wing blade joiner system develops slop allowing the wing to rock backwards and forwards slightly in a horizontal plane. Since I saw a Kangaroo disintergrate in the air due to a wing coming loose in similar circumstances, I decided to "stop the slop". I inserted hardwood blocks fore and aft in the wing root and matching locations in the fuselage. Then I used metal u/c straps of the type one finds in the ARF trainer kits to "tie" the fuselage and wing together. Now its rock solid. I have also noticed the instability issue in the yaw but initially thought it was the wing joiner slop, referred to above, causing the problem. However, it did not go away when I fixed that problem so I had concluded like Kelly it was an inherent yaw problem in the design and was simply going to llive with it. Now I will try the trick of adjusting the rudders out by 3/16" - thanks Kelly. Rgds Ross

RE: BMT200-KS info. needed
As far as I am aware there are no BMT 200's running. Andre is busy developing the motor and is very close to operational trials. I am sure he will chip in with more information when he has time. The 120KS is a class motor. The precision and quality of build is at aerospace levels. I believe it can be pushed to 160N at higher RPM's that are still within spec. I'm on the list for one and cannot wait as it is intended for my AW L39.[:D] Rgds Ross

RE: GB Hobby / GB Electronics ECU
There are two Festo valves one can use for an RC controlled shut off valve - their 3-way valve or a ball valve. I have used both and lately opted for the ball valve simply because they are cheaper (seems strange to say that given what we spend on a jet[:D]). I like the safety aspect of being able to overide the ECU. Wocketman's experiences are ample evidence of the sense
