RE: Value hobby Sabre 51in?
I got one yesterday, but the motor from VH seems kinda light, any motor combo info others are using would be appreciated

For what it's worth I emailed great planes and they did verify real weights of 19-20 lbs, bummer I really wanted one, but 19.5 lbs on a 50 is just to much for real 3d

RE: Pacific Planes Extra 260; Anyone flown one?
Ive got one with a bme 110. Flies great. 3D is very good. Some landing gear reinforcement is necessary if it hasnt allready been done. I cant agree with the gear being all that weak, Ive semi crashed mine twice and the gear survived just fine. I did wrap a little fiberglass around the top the last time because If I looked real hard I could see th starts of some layer cracking. A few months back the fellow that sold me mine helped me find a new wing panel and even delivered it to me. Seems the wings as I remember were about duplicates of the Jtech 300 and as of a few months ago they were supposed to be getting a few canopies and such but Im sure by summer if it goes in parts will be all but gone

Hey Tony. Looks good. If that were mine I think Id clamp that twin on there before I put in any servo trays or such and get a ball park on the balance. That tail doesnt look that long to me and Im just wondering If you might have to put servos in the tail to get it to balance

Just stick a dowel in the tube slot till it stops and measure it (double it for the other side) and add the measurement of the fuselage.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Maidened mine last weekend. DA 50 on stock muffler, mejlick 23-8 single 2700 nimh on rx single 1650 on engine. Mine balanced with the battery under the wing tube. While not as balistic as my old 85" extreme flight yak it was still plenty, uplines take a bit longer, pullout is a bit slower but certainly not bad. Flew great as expected, did hovers and TR's on maiden at about 15 feet. Seems to need more aileron throw than I anticipated. My futaba 9350's are going to be replaced with 5955's pretty soon, that might help a bit there. Single 5955 on rudder will do KE loops at 1/2 throw on full rate rudder. Insane amount of rudder for a big fatty. Im sure a lot of you have heard and experienced this before, just my quick thoughts. As comment above I have never left my stabs on any of my giants, I cant for storage reasons. I use lockwashers and have even tried the bonded washers on the new one and have never had a stab screw come out. 2 and 1/2 years hundreds of flights on my old EF yak so If you tighten your bolts properly it is not a problem

RE: suggestions for large profile plane
Just my opinion but there's no way a saito 180 is going to be enough (for me)for a 80" plane at 6000 feet. Id stick with the mojo 65 (I know 2 people that have had 180's on them at 400 ft and while a bit heavier flew just fine) If you were going with the omp 67" fusion kit Id just beef up the mount and attachment points and hang it on that figuring the battery hatch needs to be behind the wing. Im not sure from what Ive heard about the arf there is enough beef for a 180 up front.. A fellow named berwyn bill on the pro bro site has a 65" stralis xt kit for sale. That would be another good possibility. But in the end it's your decision based on what you feel is "enough" power. The new 80" fusion might be ok with the 180 if your not looking for a lot of pull out power

RE: RCU Build/Review: AW 50CC Pitts Python
Sorry my point wasnt that it might not need tail wires, It was I have to store my planes in my garage and removabale stabs are an absolute necessity for me and many like me in larger planes so they will fit into the spaces you can store them in and if they would have been designed airfoiled and properly they would not need all the wire. This is the main reason I can not buy one, otherwise I would have one on the way. But I will lust after yours and others[:)]

RE: RCU Build/Review: AW 50CC Pitts Python
I really like this plane but I m sorely disapointed they didnt make airfoiled removable stabs. Do they think everyone has a pole barn or a trailer to store these in. You wouldnt need to mess with the wires either.

RE: Profiles and snaps
Thin wing profiles aka fusion, sabre etc snap much more cleanly than a fat wing. your goldberg, old omp yak54, mojo 60 as examples of fat wing profiles snap sloppy IMO. The 90 size fusion snaps perfectly when rates are set accordingly and is a good Imac practice plane

RE: Pacific Planes 35% Extra 260
I havent seen the need too yet. Ive got 30-40 landings on mine and I worry more about the gear cracking than ripping out the gear. I have seen a bad landing with one hitting a hole in tall grass and it tore out a pretty good chunk of bottom, but nothing in the gear box area failed (as I remember)

RE: Pacific Planes 35% Extra 260
Yarom, I think I have it written at home, I'll check tonight. I made my ring out of 3/4" plywood just about 1/8 bigger than the lugs and cut out the center of that to within about 1/4 inch of the ring. Then I just used 3/4" ply and cut some 1.25" blocks and glued them on. Dremeled the edges a bit to smooth and lighten. seems like the total length required of the ring/standoffs was about 1.5" or just a bit more. I remember the fractional amount was 5/8, like 6 and 5/8 or 7 and 5/8 from the firewall, just cant remember which at the moment.

vess prop for bme 110
Thinking about trying a Vess prop for my 25 lb 35% extra Looking for good mixed 3D and imac type preformance (favor 3d) I have a bme 110 and Im wondering If anyone has tried them or have a recommendation. I have a 27-10 bme (zoar-nx clone) on it now. Would the 28a or b do a good job

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
Ive got one with a bme 110 (now) It weighs about 25 lbs and floats like a feather in the wind. You cant hardly even get it to come down in an elevator without significant spoilerons on. Ive only recently been able to fly it 3d after having had significant issues with a bme 115. Im still tweaking it but it flies very nicely. Needed a bit of extra engine offset, has a JR 8711 single pull pull on the rudder which needs a bit more throw but is still very effective, harrier torque rolls easily. Ke snaps very clean, needed a little more aileron throw than I first anticipated. Now I just need to get more time on it[:)] DA 85 will be plenty. It's insane with the 110. It hovers at about 5-6 clicks above idle. The only nit picky issues Ive had are the canopy screws kept vibrating out, and were very hard to get lined up, so I just filled and retapped the canopy attachments for 10-24 screws. The canopy has never fit just perfect, it sticks up a bit in the back but it doesnt look too bad. The front wing attachment bolts can be a pain to get in getting around the gas tank and so forth but these are all very minor points.

RE: BME 115 Any Field Reports?
I dont have all day to cruise sites looking for these threads, can someone PM me with the 115 thread info. I got my carb back (2nd time) a few weeks ago with the 3rd needle conversion. It's been too cold to fly it lately but I immediately noticed the 3rd needle on this one is actually in the reed block behind the muffler,. Keith said he bench ran the carb and it did well but flying is the real test as we all know

RE: BME 115 Any Field Reports?
I emailed keith about the mid range and positional in flight sagging I have experienced and he has offered to change it to the 3 needle solution If I send him the reed block and carb. Im going to take him up on this offer and get the stuff to him this week. My question for rtk is EXACTLY where are your needle settings on your 3 needle carb. My first carb was the 3 needle and it wouldnt work right at all so I hope this next one is better. I know mine could be diferent etc.. etc.. I just want to know where yours are for comparative reasons from what it is set to when I get it back. My carb opening is also right at the cowl bottom. I tried taping some cardbord to deflect some of the air to make sure it wasnt an airflow problem when it's in the air to no avail but I will go 1 step farter when the carb is off and fiberglass a bump in the cowl to keep the carb out of the slip stream completely. Hopefully I can get it back in a few weeks and I'll post to let any other interested party's if it helped

RE: BME 115 Any Field Reports?
I flew it several more flights today. the new tank, no breather tube etc had no effect. BUT what seems to be making it better is continual leaning on the high end. every flight today I leaned it more. On the last flight the thing had so much power on the ground it litterally lifted itself off the ground while being held. Kinda surprised me and my holder. It's doing much better on the verticals but still stumbling off if entered too slowly and too much thottle applied during the vertical. It screams on the ground but still seems to be very rich in the air and Im WELL below 1 turn on the high needle now. Like others Ive read it stumbles going into KE and some inverted. Never had a engine carb combo act like this and of course on this engine especially continuing to go lean makes me nervous but it's the only thing that seems to be making it better

RE: OMP YAK 55 Reports
Mine is 6 lbs 14 oz with a saito 125. Flies very light. Does everything very well, sometimes a bit of wing rock in upright harriers but not much, loves inverted, real easy to hover, doesnt quite do the spin snap turnarounds as well as my sabre 56 but pretty good for a 65" airplane. It's DARNED light, you have to be very carefull during assembly and every time you pick it up or you will poke a hole thru the sheeting. I personally dont see the fuse taking much abuse so If your an aileron dragger youd be better off with a mojo 65. But my mojo 65 was 8 lbs.

RE: BME 115 Any Field Reports?
Need some help. I got the new carb and ran the 115 with the new carb with sucsess 2 weekends ago. Only had time for 2 flights and didnt do anything much more than fly it around putting a little time on a brand new motor. Last weekend I had it out and had nothing but trouble. It would idle and transition well on the ground. In flight it ran fine on the low end but when I pulled to a vertical it seemed to lean out horribly and almost die. I richened the high end 3 or 4 times so much so that it would litterally bog when it tried to unload straight and level and it still near died on a vertical climb. Even a 45 would make it drop way off. My last flight I actually went a little leaner than the original setting and it was better especially straight and level and was a bit better on the vertical but still leaned where I couldnt do much at all until it wanted to die. Im kinda at a loss. Should I try richening the low end?. keep in mind on the ground it spools great and runs up great. It does surge up and down a little sitting at idle. I did have the carb sense line run back into the fuselage on a tube. I have replaced the stock china tank and fittings with dubro stuff and taken the line off the carb ( the nipple goes up under the cowl lip and is not exposed to direct air) any ideas

RE: Pacific Planes 35% Extra 260
Well it took darn near all summer waiting for engines, then engine parts but I finally got my first few flights on mine powered with the bme 115. Awesome, literally jumped of the ground 4-6 ft rollout from 1/4 throttle with the 115. spool up on the 27" break in prop is as fast as a 15-6 on a saito 100 (fast) and still running rich. plane flew excellent, almost no detectible pull in KE. tracks great; snaps stop clean. Did a nice waterfall and wall, I didnt push the 3d on a brand new motor. I never got it weighed but it seems to fly very light. Im a happy camper
