RE: Charlottesville Racers Thread
You've noticed the team-corr.com site is gone. The domain name is still OK so it must be the hosting that gone. It was free and it was good but it seems the owner decided to cancel the free hosting. Sorry. In case anyone wonders where the he** I've been. Well, still in CV but I put the cars on the shelf at least for now. The interest is just not there and it was time to take a break. Maybe maybe next year...

RE: Xray 808 or Xray XB8 EC
Keep the 808. It's current and much easier to get parts for. I've got the EC and it's a really nice car but partds are getting hard to find, at least in the US. Maybe it's different in Europe. The EC got some weak spots. The plastic bushing inserts used for adjusting toe, roll center and caster wear out really fast. Especially if the hinge pins have bent which they will after a few wrecks. Turn buckles on front arms bend quite easily. Besides that it's a good car. It drives like a 777 SP2 and is similar in layout but a bit easier to work on.

RE: Jammin JPX .21 Questions
Carbon build-up is normal. Thwere is absolutely no need to get a new piston/liner because of it. Any fuel with any amount of castor oil will create a carbon build-up.

RE: Can these engines be saved/repaired??
It's worth as shot for sure. Hopefully it's mostly gummed up fuel and rust. Dump them in a bucket of WD-40 as they are now (remove O-rings forst) to get rid of old fuel and to get rid of most of the rust. Then take them apart and put the parts in even more WD-40 for a while and then use a toothbrush to clean. Inspect the parts. Look out for scratches on piston/liner and pits on the crank/crank pin. If they look OK they're probably worth saving. Get NEW bearings. This shouldn't be too expensive. Not sure how expensive the bearings are but..... [8D]

RE: normal vs turbo head and plug
Both are as easy/difficult to tune as ther other. In real life you will not notice the difference. Turbo plugs are supposed to give a few hundred rpm up top. In reality, who drives WOT all the time? In boats this will make a small difference because racing is done WOT. Pick either and have fun. Normal plugs are cheaper....

Actually there are no 'RC' bearings. It's just rebadged 'regular' bearings from major bearing manufacturers.

RE: Moki Engines
This brings back memories. I used to run MOKI .40 and .90 Marine engines back in the '90s. Ran great and I still have 1 or two .90s tucked away. Does anyone know if there are spares to be had for them?
ORIGINAL: jetpack I purchased a newly run Moki marine engine without any paperwork or any prior knowlege of them. I had to learn about this engine before anything and the only information here or at other sites only provided me with run-in instructions - including contacting the importer in the UK. If anyone reading has a copy of something similar to my engine which is ringed and is a .40 size displacement, please make a scan of it or post it somehow because I have nothing for reference on this fuel issue. All I have been able to come up with is the run-in instructions and a production listing if anyone's interested. I want to be certain of what to feed this motor before it comes time to actually put it to use, hopefully next summer.
RE: PowerHouse RC Performance Race Engines
ORIGINAL: SAVAGEJIM PHRC, you have a dremel talent that I totally envy. I cannot reproduce those crank counter weight cuts you do, and I have been modding nitro engine on a hobby and personally level for a couple of years now. I say keep up the good work even though you might not be versed in every single minute reciprocating engine terminology. And from reading your posts, I think you have the concepts in mind even though you dont use the industry engineering terminology. SMan, no one is going to deny that you are a licensed professional engineer, and that in itself is an accomplishment. So guys, he is not full of it, and do recognize that a licensed PE is no easy accomplishment as you have to jump through several hoops [the first is you MUST hold an ABET accredited engineering degree, have passed the NCEES' EIT test at about the time of graduation (shortly before or some time after obtaining a degree), and have no less than 4 actual years of engineering experience before the NCEES will even consider you to take the PE test]. Even though he is an EE, he does know this crap even though this stuff is mostly what a mechanical engineer would spend his learning on. So, what he has said is fact and not opinion; as a matter of fact, it is educated facts. SMan, I must say that I do believe that PHRC IS referring to the Trapped CR, because he always talks about exhaust port relation as far as moving it up or down. But I also must say you do bust people's balls alot in RCU because you know your background, education, and experience. So much so that you walk with a chip on your shoulder. For all the years I have seen you posting in RCU, I have always seen this pretense from you. You really need to step back and begin to post with a more helpful and educative attitude, not the ''I know more because I am a PE.'' Everyone sees your pretense and takes it negatively. Even PHRC saw this pretense in your second post in this very thread. Based from your question asking, it really looked like you were trying to give him just enough rope to hang himself (that is what is meant by asking loaded questions; to set him up to fail so you can prove yourself right). Please forgive him because he does not know that trapped compression ratio is exactly what he is saying: this being based on the position of the exhaust port height and the remaining cylinder volume to TDC. Also, please do not rag on him because he does not know a lick of finite elemental analysis (heck, how many people in RCU can even do anything with any sort of differential equation?). SMan, you know your stuff very well, there is absolutely no denying that, and you have SO MUCH information that can help ALL OF US understand so much more about our beloved RC hobby. I beseech you to consider how you come across when you pass on information. Alot of times you might not intend to come off hard as people perceive you to, but it all has to do with the way your posts sound. Do take it easy and when you reply, really consider diplomacy, then people will really want to learn your knowledge. Forgive me for sounding hard, I am saying it the way I see it. You are a very knowledgeable guy and your engineering information is spot on (I personally cannot find any fault in what you said here). And this knowledge is 100% applicable to our discussion, what happens inside the engine for given mods. We can learn so much from what you know.
It's all good. It's an internet forum and not a novel writing competition. I always speak from MY point of view and when I am wrong I am wrong, that's it... People ask me a question and I always try to give an answer based on fact an/or experience and will expect the same in return. I have absolutely nothing to prove and don't need to. It's simple questions and answers with discussion. I get called out on stuff all the time so what is the big deal with a 'loaded' question? It's not loaded at all, just back up your claims.... The same goes for the business owner. OK.... over and out. This thread is done. cheers, [:D]

RE: PowerHouse RC Performance Race Engines
backpedaling? nice cover- the idea didnt pop in your head before you asked about the steep angled transfers that maybe those were the boost ports?
Terminology is key. Since you said 'transfer ports' I automatically assumed you acually meant the transfer ports and not the boost port.
so forgive my dialect- in my logic, anything that moves the charge form the case into the cyl is a transfer.
Sure. But once again, correct terminology makes it easier to discuss.
does anybody else think i give incomplete answers? my mind has a tendency to wander, but i thought for sure (aside from the horrible termanology blunder) i was getting my point across- maybe something i didnt explain in great enough detail?
One example of an incomplete statement or explanation would be when you commented on my answer to how I came to the conclusion that the pipe should be made longer to make peak power at the same rpm when the exhaust timing is raised (remember that? my answwer is in post #60). I gave a complete answer and you said it was a 'decent' answer (post #81) stating many other parameters should be taken into account. I asked which ones and you never answered...... Later on you said you take all parameters into account (post #96). Your turn agian.

RE: PowerHouse RC Performance Race Engines
ORIGINAL: savagecommander the first pic of the Plus21-4 shows the steep angled transfers..... and as a matter of fact, my SF .32, rex .28, power racing .27, stock hpi .25, O.S .18, ofna .26, and my thunder tiger .70 ALL have steep angled transfers opposite the exh. thats what schnurle scavenging is.... you didnt put that together already?
Dude, the port oppososite the exhaust is the boost port and not a transfer port and it's always a very steep angled port. You're back pedaling savage. You also didn't answer or explain what other parameters you took into account when we talked tuned length. You're very insistive getting answers and explanations from me but you rarely give complete answers yourself. ;) Forgot this....
the first pic of the Plus21-4 shows the steep angled transfers.....
Well, those two steep angled ports opposite the exhaust in the pictures of the Plus 21-4 are boost ports (left most picture). The port shown in the second picture from the left is a transfer port. If we're talking engines let's just use the correct names to avoid confusion. :)

RE: PowerHouse RC Performance Race Engines
ORIGINAL: savagecommander that all depends on how the crank moves the air- if it forces the air at the rear of the case, i think there might not be such an issue of uneven flow.
From the looks of it, it certainly is going to move air mostly sideways and not to the rear. If it happens to move air in any other direction than sideways, it's certainly not going to move it towards the rear (towards the backplate) the way the teeth are angled. Just think about what direction the crank is spinning.

RE: PowerHouse RC Performance Race Engines
Yup, they're probably going to move air from on side of the crank case to another. No concerns with uneven flow of fuel mix between the two transfer ports? I would think the less the internals of the engine disrupt flow inside the engine the better....... Is all that material removed from the crank compensated for to not completely throw off the balance? That's a huge amount of steel taken out. Usually, to improve balance of the engine material is added to that side of the crank lobe.

yes. much much more perameters- however, before any further discussion takes place, i have had limited exp in modding small nitro motors. ihave only done one, but that motor was incredible after i finished. im gassers now, so that changes a few things, but the theory is constant. as far as perameters are concerned, i touch on EVERY aspect of the motor and pipe. Just name a few... ''The transfer ports should be fairly flat (10-15 deg) compared to the boost port (50-60 deg). How would changing the transfer angles increase throttle response an efficiency? '' lower angles promote higher peak HP values, but higher angles support the powerband under the peak, so an adjustment there could yield better cyl filling at lower RPM's, and thus having noticeably better responce- I'd like to know where this comes from.
