RE: My Sherman's First Field Test
I ran the Tank on those ramps as is . Pure stock. It climbed it no problem. In fact all of my Tanks have climbed the ramps with no problem. The Sherman climbed over the Rock no problem but it was tricky as the ramp portion had a raised ridge of rock so the Sherman being so Narrow nearly tipped over on several attempts but it eventually made it. The bogies particularly the middle one worked well and didn't leave the track. I think the main thing that has been overlooked is that the Tank is fairly light and without the weight your not going to get the kind of scale action on the bogie suspension . Not like it would be for a 1/4 scale or a 1/6 scale Tank. You want scale realistic action the larger scales work better for it. I find it interesting that Tamiya has so many metal upgrades and photo etch for their plastic tanks to add weight to try and get that realisitic scale suspension movement. 1/16 is difficult to get that kind of weight movement to scale on such a small scale. The Sherman performed as expected because it is after all mostly light weight plastic. Next year I hope to add detail to it and a Crew with some photo etch parts.

The duck in the foreground is actually a Modified Mato Sherman.. using a very colorful but attractive paint scheme to draw the Tigers out. The barrel is a modifed duck bill. [:-]

I think these ducks are feeding off of bread injected with steroids and Growth Hormones. These ducks were very large. They dwarfed my Sherman . [:D]

My Sherman's First Field Test
[8D][:D] It was a beatiful day with Temperatures of +8C today. I finally had a chance to test my New Mato Sherman Tank and see how it would run in the field. Winds were brisk at times. I had to operate the Sherman from inside the Car with the window down a crack to allow the antennae to poke out. The run was flawless. No issues with the range or handling of the Tank Everthing worked. We had the Tank out as far as 50 -70 ft. The Tank fan for a full Hr flat out. The Battery already had 40 minutes of run time in the basement at the house where I tested it's climbing power on my ramps which are set at 45 degree elevation. The Tank must have self cleaning Tracks because I put it through massive clumps of leaves and the most it got was a couple of leaves in the back hung up on the rear and what was in the tracks I was able to remove them from the tracks just by backing the Tank up a few few feet and them move forward. I am very pleased with this first field test. Nothing to report but a good time with the Sherman.

RE: I ordered a Mato Sherman update. It ARRIVED!!
They were stick ons. Standard equipment. I don't really care for those but I stick them on anyway. I know later I will replace them by painting or getting a much better decal set. However when I do the hull will be painted and weathered properly.

RE: Vanishing Panther Suspension
My Panther is my best most difficult to kill Tank. It's seen the most god awful abuse and road use ever. The worst was last month went it went down an ft steep embankment then I proceeded to drive it over large pebbled beach rocks. That kind of torture these Tanks should never be exposed but hey I push them to their limits sometimes. I did damage several control suspension arms but hey I had plenty of spares and replaced them with stronger springs. This good ole Tank keeps on rolling .

RE: My Sherman
I think this Sherman is 1/15th scale. Not surprised though they would have to make it slightly larger to accomodate the gearbox HL uses. No big deal. I am amazed that nobody mentioned that the Bulldog is also not 1/16th and was upscaled to accomodate the standard gears that HL uses. Nobody seem to bring that up or complain about that. I think the guys complaining have forgotten that these are still toys and sold as toys and are not model tanks like Tamiya. If you want perfect scale and accuracy buy a Tamiya. If you want your Tank to be more accurate but within a tight budget then get one of these Tanks. I got the impression that the Sherman had too high expectations. I think we become so used to the fabolous upgrades that we forgotten just how these Tanks start out. I keep my Pantiger as is as a reminder of that. Not knowing any different about Tanks I didn't realize many of the inaccuracies about everything on these tanks from the looks to the details to the operation and sounds but you know what...I still had a lot of fun with my Tanks and am very pleased of all the options to make it more accurate that are out there. I am sure the HL Sherman made by Mato Toys is a fine product as it is using the stock parts that no doubtly HL uses to save money. Anybody who has severalof these tanks knows that they all sound basically the same because they use the stock boards.I own 12 of these Toy Tanks. Some with upgrades. I can tell you that they all at one time or another needed repair and upgrades and others just running fine stock untill something fails to work. So lets get on with making the Sherman an awesome Tank and not bash it for what it is.. a TOY Tank RTR out of the box and at a cheap price. I was put off by all the immediate negativity at first but cleared my head and realized there was a lot of nitpicking over items that have occured before with these tanks that have been resolved by the manufacturer and the wonderful people here on the forum through their talents and creativity. So as a reminder when you buy these Non- Tamiya Tanks remember just that...there not Tamiya and will have inaccurracies and issues. The good thing is it is all fixable and you can go as far as you like budget wise or not. I am now more than ever looking forward to getting my Sherman and Panther to add to my collection and look foward to seeing the uprades and problem solving asscoiated with the Sherman and Panther in the future. Cheers.

RE: What IR System should I buy????
I demoed the IR HENGLONG system over the weekend at a show. The main advantage of it is it's cheap, no complextity. Just turn it on, shoot and do it again. Most people just getting into this like this and are not into the Tanks or even aware of the other system. However as I often explained to the public this version is a generic version and fun for the novice battler. If you want to make it more realistic and go further with it the other systems are available .,

Like the Bulldog I did the same removed the extral link got rid of the sag in the tracks and replaced the sprngs with stronger springs. Persing is one my best tanks for climbing hills with tall grass ( up to and past the hull).

RE: M41a3 Metal Tracks, I stick with the plastic
I use the Mato metal tracks on my Bulldog and I found since I taken the slack out the Tank runs much smoother. Also all the springs were swapped out with stronger springs which also has helped tremendoulsy. I find with the stronger springs and the tracks tighten up the Bulldog performs so much better than before.

You can see where the Tab is broken. What I found frustrating was there was no replacement part of this switch. I would have to order a whole new recoil gun unit. I hope someone makes these switches available.
