RE: Where are the pics from the big Phoenix race?
Here's the great fly-off video between Chuck Andraka (my teammate) and Jim Allen. It was a close race until the unfortunate happened. It is one to remember for Chuck, especially on his first Q40 race. http://www.youtube.com/embed/WD5odviq42w Sam

RE: Waiting for the release
Very nice looking engine indeed. It seem like a hybrid design between Jett and Nelson in term of an appearance wise. The 25,000+ RPM with 7.4x7.7C prop on the ground is strong and seem to unload well in the air too, but we'll see how competitive it is in competition when it's ready.

RE: WHat makes this sport attractive?
It's about the all around competition. RC Pylon racing is a technical sport and for one to really enjoy it and stay in it a long tine take a person with a very competitive and technical nature. Those that come and go are the one in it just for a short fun time and later move on to something else. You'll see! Good friendship can come from all sort of different sports and not just Pylon racing. Fast planes and good friendship comes alone with the environment and will be the same with any sports in general. What keeps me going is the COMPETITION and with good, like-minded friendship I've made along the way. The people you meet and good friendship you made are a gift and will last a life time, but without the added technical competition, I will probably find something else competitive to do. Good competition what really drives me, and fast planes and friendship what keeps me going. Compete With Pride and Lose With Dignity. This is the way of the SAM-RAI...

RE: 426 Props - Gino's Style (What?)
The Gino's prop (8.75x8.5N) seem to be the prop of choice for AMA 428 class and has been the faster prop used with the new Long Stroke Nelson and Jett racing engines. However, it only works well under the right condition with good air and with a strong motor. The lower pitch Gino's style props of 8.75x8.0N and 8.75x8.25N has been an excellent choices for both 426 and 428 Q500 classes. Wev'e tested the 8.75x8.25N prop at Whittier Narrow Park, CA flying the full composite SAM-RAI Q500 powered by a Jett LS engine, and the average speed we radar was in the 185-187 MPH inside the course coming from Pylon 1 to 2 during practice. This prop (8.75x8.25N) seem to works best with the Jett LS engine in the CA thick air vs. the 8.75x8.5N that most used with the Nelson engine. Just something to think about.

I thought about doing that a long time ago, but I got to fill some orders and provide the SAM-RAI full composite kits to a few people first to get them going. I don't want to make any promises unless I can keep them, and right now I got to take care of those priority before I will be able to do anything like that. BTW... That's great of you to do that. You're a gentlemen indeed!

RE: Best engine for a Viper 500?
LGM, For what you are intending to do, get yourself the new SEMPRA Sport Jett motor. The price is 250.00 and is built solid just like the current quickie motors of today with exception of less HP. The new SEMPRA motor is basically the first generation Q500 engine of the past from what Dub told me, but it was designed to fit the bill for the new AMA 428 class in trying to slow down the speed of quickie racing. This engine will work great on that Viper for practicing and keep you on your toes. Give Dub a call and tell you want the SEMPRA motor as it's not listed on the website. Hope this helps.

RE: 1st run on sport jett 500
For a flying break-in, use a prop that allowed the engine to turn up closer to 20,000 RPM on the ground and back it out about 1000 on the rich side and let her lose. Fly several flights with it and then lean it out a little more after that. You will notice much increase in speed, but still rich enough with smoke trail behind the plane. If you break-in on the bench like most folks do, I would recommend using a Q40 carbon prop for that with the same procedure as decribed above. TAKE NOTES: Do not use the sport 9x4 prop as the hub on that prop were not to design for high RPM application. Use the Pylon Props with the D hub such as a 8.75 or 8.8 diameter with 8.5 pitch or less to get the RPM up. Hope this helps.
