RE: Drift wheels
If youre starting out, might as well go with ABS as they're cheap which is good to learn on. you just make them yourself, buy like 5 feet of ABS(not pvc, pvc has barely any grip at all) tubing from the hardware store and cut them to the width of tires. you'll end up with around a years worth of tires for like 5 bucks. After a month or two of learning and honing your skills, you can then try some actual drift tires and see how you like them. for the most part, actual drift tires are more grippy than ABS and so the speed will be faster. the speed with ABS is good, though if you don't round the edges, they might get caught up on an uneven surface.

RE: DRIFT RACING
i think there are a few vids from the people at Arai on youtube that show them racing gymkhana/SS style. Looks pretty interesting and incorporates aspects of drifting in it. if you google Arai and gymkhana you'll probably find it.

2.4ghz rec. aerial. which way does it go?
I just got a 2.4 ghz system for my RC car, but I don't know which is the optimal way i should have the receiver aerial. Should it be parallel to the transmitter aerial, or perpendicular to it? The way i hold the transmitter the aerial on it would be pointing pretty much straight up.

RE: drift car
I say just go for the TT01 because of its super strong design and hopup/replacements. its hard to judge videos because it depends on the driver alot.

RE: drift car
ya you can get the TT01 RTR. you can get one from the 'bay' from the seller named "modelstation" for around $155 shipped, which is probably one of the best prices you can find, though it doesn't include batteries or a charger. The seller is also in the US so shipping to you should be decently fast. Just do a search for TT01 +RTR on the 'bay' and you should find him.

RE: drift car
I'd say go with the E10 over the driftstar because the E10 has a bigger(probably much much bigger) backing in terms of parts, and more importantly REPLACEMENT parts. the worst thing that probably happens to everyone is having a part breaking, and if you can't easily and quickly find replacement parts, either in stores or online, then it seriously sucks balls. being out for a month is big if you have an actual winter season in your country since it can potentially eat up 6 months of your drift season, and having to wait a month for a part is horrible. so whatever you choose in the end, make sure you can get replacement parts easily and quickly.

RE: drift car
For a chassis, i say go with something from tamiya because you can get so many replacement/upgrade parts extremely easy online and possibly from your lhs. theres the cheap TT01. Its super tough, probably the lowest priced chassis, and has a ton of hopup stuff. Out of the box though, its pretty fixed in terms of adjustability. I personally think its a great first car and i like the fact thats its not adjustable so that you can focus solely on how youre driving and not second guessing your car setup(as there is none). because its so low priced too you can still keep it if you want to get another chassis, and use the tt01 as a car people you want to get into the hobby to use. a TB02 is another good one from tamiya. its also lower in price and is pretty similar to the TT01, though it comes with full ball bearings and an aluminum prop shaft. its also more adjustable and runs around 15 dollars more than the lower priced TT01s. The E10 from HPI is a chassis that was recommended above, and is also good. its more pricey, but allows for a different motor placement that ads more weight to the front instead of the rear. Since it hasn't been around as long as the tamiyas, it doesn't have as many hopups. There are other chassis, but i like those 3 since they are relatively well priced and are tough. tennis courts are good surfaces because theyre super consistent throughout and don't have bumps. It shouldn't be too expensive to get a good setup going. you can find a rolling chassis from 90-120 bucks(don't really need to get more expensive than that), or even a RTR TT01 for around 120. for a motor setup you can get one of those yeah racing brushless setups for around 80 bucks, and i'll assume you already have the radio gear. then its just batts and charger, though if you might have those too IF you were doing elec offroad with a 6 cell setup. from rc mart, you can get a TB02($99.90), yeah racing brushless setup($79.90), lipo setup(1 batt, charger, and ac power supply $114.90, but you dont need the power supply if you just use a car batt(1 bat and charger) $82.99 or $113.99 with the charger and 2 batts) for $290. after that you need the radio gear, tires and a servo, but you should have the radio gear and servo already. As for tires, you can just get some ABS tubing/piping from the hardware store and cut yourself some tires, the tubing will cost like 5 bucks, and you get... many sets of tires. If you don't want to go brushless or lipo, you will save alot of money(relatively speaking)

question about novak smart-stop lipo cutoff
So i ordered the 2 cell Novak smart-stop lipo cutoff off of ebay 2 days before i found out i could buy a solderless cut-off locally for the same price, so i'm pretty much stuck with the novak one. It still hasn't come in yet, but i've read the instructions online and it says to solder it do the esc's + and - so that it could monitor the bettery pack. I have some extra deans male and female plugs lying around, and i was wondering if i could make a plug that goes in between the battery pack and the esc with a deans connection, instead of having to solder it directly to the esc? This way i could easily take it off if i wanted to use a nimh pack, or if i wanted to use a lipo pack on another car. any tips or comments would be appreciated.

RE: rwd drifting
i remember when i used to watch WRC on TV, they'd sometimes show some exhibition stuff for the fans by doing tight turns and sliding around in style. i can tell you this, it looked ALOT like RC drifting. it had that smooth flowing look of RC cars, kinda like seeing a hovercraft move. So it is possible to have awd drifting, but i wouldn't be surprised if the speed was alot different which would make tandem drifting hard.

RE: looking for 2.4 ghz 2 ch stick radio. options?
ya i don't really NEED to switch, but it'd be nice to switch just incase, and to cut down those slight twitches i have, though those are usually at distances i shouldn't be at anyways. Its just for my 1:10 onroad electric Tamiya TA03F. At this time i'll probably be running by myself for fun so i don't really need to worry anyways.

RE: looking for 2.4 ghz 2 ch stick radio. options?
i did some searching on what some companies have to offer, and ya, pickings are slim. the cheapest priced 2.4ghz stick i found was a spektrum dx5. Its meant for planes though of course, and i dont really know how they differ, though it seems that both sticks can move up and down, but stay in that position, but can move left and right and spring back. i guess i'll have to stick to my old futaba ATTACK.

looking for 2.4 ghz 2 ch stick radio. options?
I'm thinking of going to a 2.4 ghz system for my onroad RC car, but i prefer sticks rather than pistol. It seems that there aren't many 2.4ghz stick options for only 2 or 3 channels, but i'm not too knowledgeable about these things, so i could be missing alot. What are my options out there? I'd prefer to go cheap as its more for bashing and i won't be doing any serious racing.

Novak lipo cutff, 2 cell or 4?
I'm planning on getting a lipo cutoff as i'll be going lipo on friday, and I was wondering if I should be going 2 cell lipo cutoff, or 4 cell lipo cutoff. The setup will be a 7.4v setup, so 2S. Do the novak cutoff cell numbers represent the amount of batteries in series, or in total?

RE: anyone have exp. with venom lipo charg/balancer?
thanks for the reply. I checked up on it some, and it only charges at 0.75 amps. I was thinking of getting a 5400mah pack and that would take something like 7 hours for it to charge. thats quite a long time. Is that how slow most chargers would take with an AC supply?

anyone have exp. with venom lipo charg/balancer?
I'm looking to go to a lipo setup for my RC car, and I saw the Venom charger/balancer, which is also AC. It seems like a really really good price, too good even, so i'm a bit weary of it. anyone have any experience with it?: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPZT6&P=7

RE: Tamiya Alum Parts...
Ive tried both PVC and ABS and ABS was much more controllable. PVC seems to be really hard and so made it hard to control. Was hard to even stop with pvc. I say go ABS, but short lengths are cheap, so try them both if you want.

RE: Best Drift Chassis?
a TT01 was my first chassis. It was a gooder, but was abit lacking... UNTIL i ditched the stock motor it came with. the extra oomph i got when i used a bought 25t(i think it was 25t) made it feel alot better and smoothed it out quite well. i think that might be the case most people might have when they use a TT01, the stock motor. The TT01 is so cheap yet so tough makes it an awesome first pick and heck you can compete with it well as stated above. I bought my brother a TB01(i think, i have a bad memory now, maybe it was a tb02), and bought myself a TA03F. I havn't done any drifting in close to 2 years now, but i'm having an urge to pick it up again. Maybe i'll go lipo...

RE: RC Drifting popular???
its like a good but obscure movie. sure its popular... to certain people, and some people just don't know about it and its usually more people don't know about it than know about it. only reason people think its popular is because the person who is interested in it tells his friends and finds forums about it so they surround themselves with it. "what, youve never seen ____? man, its the best movie ever. its so good. i can't believe you've never seen ____ before. do you live under a rock?" i'm sure we've all had conversations similar to this.

RE: New TT-01 Coming : FD RX7
if you buy this one kit, then you'll need a transmitter(controller)/reciever/servo(all three of these items can be bought as a group, and you only need ONE servo), batteries, charger, and drift tires. then you'll need to lock the diffs, but thats easy to do and you don't need to buy anything else really. other than those, you should be all set.

RE: biggest crash?
only things i've ever broken during drifting was the diff screws in the tb02. as for biggest crash, my friend was running full speed down a parking lot using his 4300 novak brushless and he hit the side of my ta03fpro at FULL force. he hit the rear right wheel. the hit was sooo hard that i thought for sure my car was totally busted. drove it back to me and it was going abit wonky. checked it to see what broke, and the only things that broke was a piece of the lip on the rear rim had broken off and the rear stabilizer had popped out of arm right, which made my car drive abit strangly. thats old school tamiya for you. tough as nails, and then some. both my friends that drive xxx-s' have broken tons of parts though. i wouldn't be surprised if one of them broke something every outting.

RE: TB02 Locking Rear Differential
i found it not neccesary to lock the diffs in the tb-02, just make sure they're tight. watch out though, the diff screws aren't too strong, so if you can, get a pack or two of HPI diff screws, which are much stronger and well priced too. you can find them at your local hobby shop... maybe.

RE: XXX-S or TT01???
i much prefer shaft over belt. in fact, i'd say shaft is far superior to belt for drifting. the xxx-s isn't even that much of a racing chassis either. it's as much as a racing chassis as the tb-02 is. not to mention the xxx-s is tons more brittle than a tt-01.

RE: XXX-S or TT01???
i started with a tt-01, and 2 of the people i drift with have xxx-s', and so i've had plenty of experience with both. I like the tt-01 more, and even they like the tt-01 more. the tt-01 is stock besides a p2k2 motor, and it just drifts so smoothly and is very predictable. if you go with a tt-01, change out the motor for a 27t one, get aluminum prop shaft and ball bearings, then you're good to go. the stock motor is pretty weak and just changing it out made suuuuch a big difference.

RE: Beginners question: Nitro or electrical
you should see what the old onroad cars he has are. some of those old ones are pretty good drifters because of how the battery is placed, like the hpi rs4s and the tamiya ta03.

RE: Are cars with brushless systems better drifters?
i drift with a novak 5800 and i find it much better than drifting with a brushed motor. tooons of power, so much power that you don't really feel a drop in battery performance because when it goes down, you can just up the throttle abit and its as if there was no drop. you can drift in a small area too. the course that we make has some tight spots and the brushless motors do just fine. you just need a smooth finger/thumb.

RE: Beginners question: Nitro or electrical
ya, it'll save you lots of cash. so far i have 3 drift cars, all bought used, and 2 of them even came with some hopups. only problem with them i had is that one of them, the tb-02, had a bent tierod, but that was easy to straighten out. my tt-01, tb-02 and ta03 all costed me around 400 dollars canadian, and they were all RTR.

RE: TT-01 R Conversion to Drift
yes, a tb-02 is a good chassis. it has everything the tt-01 has(or atleast i'm pretty sure it does), plus more. it has a ball diff in the front and back and if you wanted to upgrade it in the future, i believe there are better hopups, or atleast from tamiya because it can use suspension parts from better chassis'. only problem with the tb02 is taht it has weak diff screws. they are direct swaps with the hpi diff screws, which are stronger and so just pick up a pack of hpi diff screws so taht you'll have some at hand when your tb02 diff screws brake.
