RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?
ORIGINAL: badfish key is finding a happy spot. I would definately put up with a little shaking over having a dead stick. another thing I do is listen for the rpm drop when removing the glow stick. the richer it is the more your rpms will drop. steve
Yep, that is why I have it set so lean on the low end. Set up inverted and set lean, there is still a noticeable drop in RPM when glow is removed. As long as I don’t go full open/close/open/close/open real fast (as in fast waterfall—this FL is capable of wicked fast WF’s[8D]) then I don’t have a problem.

RE: Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle Who's Got One?
I have mine mounted inverted and have the low end as lean as possible. The down side to this is that on waterfalls I have had the motor quit with rapid increase & decrease in throttle.

My SA100/FL330 does not vibrate that bad. It does idle down nicely. I run 5-15%nitro. I am comparing it to YS110 on 68 yak. I like the smoothness of the two strokes (OS32,55,91,120,160).
ORIGINAL: krayzc-RCU good deal[8D] STG how do u slow down the sim?
AFPD sim speed adjustable from 30-200% on the fly with drop down menu. Also, I like to add weight to planes. I think it makes the 40% sim planes fly more like 25% planes. With the addition of a lot of weight more power is also needed.

RE: Making turns during rolling harrier
Congrats!! I think I know exactly what you mean. One thing I have done to improve my flying is to slow down the sim very slow to nail down the timing. Eventually I can turn the speed up very fast and bias the model so that it is harder to fly than at the field. I think flying the sim some at a very challenging settings helps increase reaction time (like lifting weights).

RE: Making turns during rolling harrier
My directional control is based on the rudder input in timing to the rotation, something developed on the simulator and foamy. To turn one way, I input rudder sooner to turn the other way I input rudder later. I would not consider myself a good roller though…only rotate one direction & some days are better than others. [8|]OK. I am a stick banger.[:)] As far as the tail going up...my guess is that that is the nose going down;turning will take more throttle (power)to keep the nose up. Good flying to you!

RE: prop for U Can Do 3D .60, os 91 fx
Here is the ultra thrust I am using: http://www.pspec.com/results.asp?category=8 It is the sport muffler & not the racing. I also have a 3/4" spacer & that may help with the lower RPM tune. The muffler is louder than stock, and works fine for 3D on 8 to 10 pound plane. That being said, I would go for the AX120 on a 8 pound plane and a FX160 on a 10 pound plane. My favorite 3D prop for the .91FX on an 8 pound plane is a SK wood 15x6slightly less thrust, but instant spool.

RE: prop for U Can Do 3D .60, os 91 fx
At one time had a 10 pound plane (GPSpacewalker) with a OS.91FX that I wanted to learn to hover with. I tried a lot of different props listening to advice from local experts and could not find anything that had the pull to hover. Then I found a .91FX engine test from Engine guru Clarence Lee who tached this engine w/various props: 13x6 12,500\13x8 10,400\14x6 10,900 \15x6 10,200 \15x8 8,100\16x6 8,300. Using this prop/rpm information, I plugged these numbers into a thrust formula published in a magazine. The clear thrust winner on paper was the 15x6 @ 10,200 so I tried it and I had a winner. It had very little pull out, but enough for up high practice. I also noticed that my fuel usage noticeably decreased. I then picked up a high volume Ultra-thrust muffler (tuned for lower RPM—I think the tower .75 muffler is lower volume & is tuned for higher RPM). My .91FX was turning the lower 10’s with an APC 15x6 stock muffler, baffle removed. When I put the high volume ultra thrust on, it jumped to the high 11’s!! This was a dramatic increase in thrust; pull from hover was very good—enough so that I felt comfortable hovering on the deck. I can say though, that with the way I was using the left stick, my fuel consumption went way up(I was using HP). The .91FX with high volume Ultra-thrust is now on a 8.75 pound plane (4*60) and it easily wins a vertical drag race with a 10.5 pound/1.6FX plane .

RE: os.91fx (RINGED) what prop?
My testing has shown the best prop on a .91FX for ultimate thrust is APC 15x6 (should turn around 10,500, if I remember right, and pull about 12 pounds). A little less thrust but instant spool is SK wood 15x6-my choice for 3D on a 8+ pound plane. It sounds like you have plenty of motor for the plane and don’t need the best thrust? If you are around 7 pounds RTF and have a good running 91FX, anything from a 13x6 to 15x6 will work. I have not found a thrust benefit to 4 pitch props 16 inches or larger. I did have a 16x5 wood that worked well a SA100 and FL330. Tianci is right; load the .91FX with anything more than a 15x6 and it falls on its face.

RE: BME Cap Maniac with OS 108, prop advice for 3D flying?
ORIGINAL: jeepthing Putting this combination together and wanted some advice on prop size. I've been checking around and looks like a 15x4W is probably about right. Any thoughts? Experiences with a 108 on a 90 size airframe?
The test was with a F90 with OS 108FSR , Jec pitts muffler, restrictor sleeve removed from the carb and VP30 pump. Fuel used was Cool Power 15%. Temp 51° Humidity 76% and dupoint was 44°. I used a Rapalla fishing scale that calibrates within 1oz at 10 and 15 pounds. Elevation is at about 300 feet. I tried six different props and to my surprise max thrust was very close between them. The props are shown below in the picture and are ordered left to right lowest to highest thrust. My measurements were rmp at 10 pounds (about hovering rpm) of thrust and rmp at max rpm/thrust. Prop RPM at 10 pounds Max RPM& Thrust 15 x6 apc 8,900rpm 10,600 – 13.7 pounds 16 x6 zing not measured 9400- 14.6 pounds 18x8n apc 6,400 8200- 14.9 pounds 16 x5 c zing 7,900 9800- 15.1 pounds 16 x6 apc 7,700 9520- 15.2 pounds 17 x6 apc 7,100 9,200- 15.5 pounds

RE: Thrust needed for 3D
ORIGINAL: PE2fan Hey guys I was wondering what thrust is needed for comfortable 3D flying? The combination I am looking at should give me 15.4lb to fly a 12lb plane. Is that too low to for good 3D? Mike
Is this a real measured 15 pounds of thrust? If so, I have found that a 10 pound plane with about 1100sq in of wing loading is about as high as I like to go. If the wing area goes down to 900in, then I like max weight to be closer to 8.5 pounds. This is at lower elevations.

RE: 52" OMP Fusion ARF/AX 55
ORIGINAL: RaceCity I have a Saito .72 (APC 13-4W) on my Fusion, and an OS 55AX (APC 13-4) on my Edge V3. Both engines are similar in weight, and fuel consumption. Both engines run well in this sort of application. Performance wise? The OS 55 hands the Saito it's proverbial a$$. No comparison. If I had it to do all over....The Saito would be in a Cub where it belongs, and I'd have put the OS in both the Fusion & the Edge. The OS has the better (faster) transition, is much smoother, and believe it or not....the OS has a more linear throttle response than the Saito. The added bonus is that it costs about $75 less while giving me fewer things to maintain. The Saito is nice, but for these airplanes? The OS gets my vote.
Any RPM #'s or is this just by feel? In the the market for something like this 55.
ORIGINAL: jstanton Nice things to know. I use a TBM 21x8 prop and mine pulls like a mule. I am starting to have some small problems with mine and I think it is in the carb. I can get good RPM on the hig side but she won't idle very well. The idle stays very high when I pull back on the throttle and all of a sudden it drops off to nothing and quits. I have tried working with the needles both high and low setting and started from 2 turns out on both with the same results. RE: Brillelli 40GT and QQ 73" yak thread.
My B46 has the WT 349 carb with a fine thread on the H speed. It has the standard velocity stack that protrudes out the cowl ~.125. This carb does a good job at metering fuel on the B46--I have found the H & L needles to be very sensitive. If you are not happy with the pull of the B40 on your plane trade it in for a B46. You will be adding 6 to 7oz to the nose though(if you are already running the lite muffler). Here are some not so scientific pull tests (with Rapila fish scale) from last time out: Master Airscrew Scimitar 20x8 @ 7,680 19.3 pounds of thrust Xoar 20x8 @ 7,300 20.25 pounds of thrust NX 21x8 @ 6,600 21.7 pounds of thrust Last time I measured the Xoar 20x8 and 21x8 they were both just over 20 pounds so I don't know where that extra 1.4 pounds came from with the 21x8?[&:] --as I said not so scientific.
