RE: How to hover?
There are many ways to learn how to hover, I personally do not think that you need to harrier in order to first try your hand at hovering. In reality it is not all that difficult once you have mastered the basics.

RE: Gyros for 3D flying?
Give them a go, i would buy 2nd hand, Align make pretty good gyros which you can purchase 2nd hand rather cheaply, I would put the gyro on a switch so you can turn it on or off and see if it helps. A gyro may or may not help you but in all honesty you are most likely just going to get flamed for asking the question. I have never tried a gyro myself.

RE: Witch plane is better?
I had an OMP ProYak, but I prefer my EF 60inch Edge, slightly more expensive but it is a class above the OMP in my honest opinion. My problem with profiles is the space they take up, and the fact you cant really get any good ones in Australia. You have to take the risk and order from overseas. I have bought a few over here and thrown a few in the bin as well, if I lived in the states perhaps I would own one but I do not. Profiles are a little difficult to electrify as well and I am pretty certain that I would not own another small IC motor other than my helicopters, are there any that are specifically designed for electric.

Gas thumbskull gas!!!! Get yourself a slick, way better than the reactor!! I would go with an EG models Slick and then upgrade when you skills improve to a EF of some flavour.

OS 55 for me but as we are not recommending engines you asked for I vote for the OS82 Alpha!!! or if you want ballistic power go electric!!!

4strokes have bottom end torque which is perfect for 3d though.

RE: 40 size 3d planes...which do you prefer? 2 or 4 stroke
Dont discount the Alpha series of engines, they are more powerful than a similar displaced Saito but they run much... much cleaner, if price does not bother you an OS is a great choice. I have owned my fair share of Saitos so I know what to compare against. Of course, personally i would no longer own a 40 sized slimer, electric is way to go these days, more power, lighter, lighter airframes, less vibration... only downside is in flight times but I am getting 8minutes with my 60inch edge so that is pretty good. Timer is set for 8 1/2 minutes, the last 30seconds is landing so a true 8 minute flight.

Always negative, is this modern society!!! bring back free love and the 60's!!! Nitrowing these models may or may not be of high quality but they may be perfect for the beginner venturing into larger models.

Thumbskull, I have seen a guy here glass a fuse and paint it, the glass was very thin. This was a Goldberg 2m pattern/3d plane, the glass was very light and more robust than covering!! the paint job was extremely good as well. It can be done!!

RE: SERVO Choice for 26-30cc airplane
ORIGINAL: ameyam The jury is still out on whether digital is better than analog. In my particular case, the digital servos were the only ones available at LHS. However all the remaining servos I have are BB Analog. For larger airplanes get the MG servos with the correct torque. Regarding the HD servos, a lot of people have had a lot of success with them. But I understand they are chinese servos and I dont want to trust them with my large and expensive airplanes. Remaining is up to you. Ameyam
The jury deliberated on the digital vs analog debate years ago, the verdict was digital is far superior!!! i am surprised you can still buy an analog servo!

I have used 5645's in the past they get a bad rap for not centring but I have not seen this with any of the ones I have owned, I would probably go Savox these days for a similar price.

RE: Bigger engine for U-Can-Do .46?
I would try one but I have never seen anyone get a Y.S. to run where I am from, that is over many years as well, from 2 Stroke heli motors to the 4 bangers. Even the local guru with over 40+ yrs experience tried to get one to run correctly, he played with compression ratios, plugs, fuel and all sorts of fucky stuff and even he had trouble. They do not like the heat and humidity here I think, I bought a Y.S. 91 a few years back and was unimpressed with it, it did not have the power I have heard people rave about, they may be a dam fine motor in some parts of the world but not here.

I would not recommend the Y.S. unless you have some 4 stroke experience under your belt, OS or Saito 82 is more than enough for the U Can.
