SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Hi, JUST A FYI There is a new kid on the block...MADE IN USA...Syssa engines makes a 30cc There was a new 30cc engine shown at Joe Nall this week, made in Southington, Connecticut, USA. The company is called Syssa Aircraft and the engine is a rear induction, 39 oz incl muffler, standoffs and ignition. The only non-US item I saw was the RX Excel ignition. Todd Syssa explained that the first production batch are in process of manufacture, and hopefully will be available around June. I've signed up for one. All of the components are his own design and manufacture, including his own cylinder head, crank, crankcase, etc. The reported numbers were 8600 rpm on an 18x6 Xoar, which he said was the best prop he's tried for aerobats. One of his engines on display was installed in an Aeroworks 72" Yak, which he told me came in at 11.2 lbs, and hovers on 3/8 throttle. He was going to fly it later at the Nall (I was there Thursday) and I'd be very interested in hearing back if anyone saw it fly. Don't know if you saw the 2nd engine he had with him, which he showed in his booth. The black anodized crankcase will be the production version, due in the next month or 2 he said. The one in his AeroWorks 72" Yak had a glass bead blast finish. He claims a weight of 39 oz including muffler and ignition, which puts it in the same weight range as an OS160 w/muffler. Turning an 18x6 Xoar at 8600 rpm is in the same ballpark as the OS, as well. It's about the same power as my 30 cc Wolf Predator 1.8 (30 cc) but the weight is much lower Reference: This above information taken from FG's. Moderator added name of engine to title

RE: My New Futaba 18 MZ
I like Futaba products; however, they have the worst technical supporting documentation out of all the major brands available. They need to really address how they approach their technical documentation. More often that not, it's too difficult to understand and they don't throughly explain the functionality of the programming. Their upper end radios are fantastic once you learn how to use them but don't depend on the documentation....just my humble two cents. Merry Christmast to all.

RE: Chief Aircraft Problems!!
I've been buying from them for years without any issues and I'd buy from them again. Like they say, you can please some of the people all the time, all the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time. There's more truth to that old saying than I'd like to admit.

RE: Nemesis 1.20 -1.80 by Seagull
I've followed the tread on the pattern flyer's installing the Syssa motor in their platforms. Putting a pipe in this plane will be a wait and see until I get the Nemesis. Though, I do like the idea.....the motor the pipe and say a 14x14 prop....it may haul the mail. I could use no more than an 8oz tank, all in one kill switch and regulator with one battery to keep it light as possible. Could be an interesting winter project....time will tell.

RE: Saito FG-17(100) 4-Stroke Gas Engine - MSRP $689.99
When I see the price on this motor, the next words to come out of my mouth is...I'd buy an American made Syssa 30cc gasser for less and get more motor, IMHO. Dollar for dollar Syssa is giving me more product, just my opinion. Also, I"m helping to support some American's who are lucky enough to be employed. A DLE 20 goes for $270.00 and the 30cc goes for $320.00. Saito may be pricing themselves out of the market. I've had many a Saito and been happy with all of them but price is a major consideration, especially in these economic times. I'm sure it's a good motor but the prices are getting out of control for their product line. I hope it does well.

Wow, That sounds like a lot of work for the Stearman. It's always good to check and double check things before the model leaves the assembly table. That is a good catch. Looking forward to the pics

Hey Thanks for the suggestion. With 130 oz of torque, I'll probably go with Futaba's new HV servo: http://servocity.com/html/s3051hv_hi_voltage_servo.html

Hey, Any recommended servos for this bird? I checked the assembly manual and it doesn't recommend how many inch oz of torque is needed....? I'm going to run the Syssa motor without the pipe. Thanks

RE: What servos for 30cc War birds?
It just doesn't make sense to spend all the money on the airframe and motor and then install substandard servos. For example, a lot of people use substandard servos on the throttle servo. Here you need a very fast, reliable digital servo for throttle response and it makes all the difference in the world when flying. I budget between $100.00 to $130.00 for servos. For me there is just no way around it. Yeah, I have $600.00 in servos on my 28 to 30 % planes but the will last more than one season, as I have serval planes and rotate their use. The nice thing is I can sent them in and the pots, motors and gears can be replaced. This is every important in IMAC and pattern airplane.

RE: TBM Goldwing RC YAK55M 30cc ARF Build
By installing the servos in the tail area did you have to add additional weight to balance the plane. I ask, because I 'm wondering if that's a weighted True Turn prop hub you have mounted on the front of the Yak?

I considering get this model and putting a Syssa 30cc gas motor in it. With and 8o inch wing span and weighing as much as 13 LB (according to the Horizon website) I think the motor will be a good fit. Has anyone assembled one of these, what is the quality of the ARF? How does it fly ...any bad tendencies, like snapping?

I just checked the Syssa webpage. For $429.00 the motor comes with an ignition. I don't know if you can buy just the motor for less and not purchase the ignition system. If you payed 429.99 and didn't receive and ignition system, I'd call Todd tomorrow.

RE: Showtime 90 with 35cc gas
Does anyone have a link to an assembly manual for the showtime 90 4D. I have a NIB showtime and I'm thinking about putting the Syssa gasser on the plane. I'd like to know the distance from the firewall to the prop nut to determine if I need to make the stand-offs longer?

RE: World Models Nemesis 52
I worked with Jon Sharpe the designer and owner of the Nemesis and his plane flies great. That's not what you're folks are talking about. He has retired from air racing and is now focusing on closed circuit timed courses. It will be interesting to how much the speed envelope opens up on his Nemesis. I like the look of the RC Nemesis...if it's flying qualities are close to the Nemesis it will be a great flyer. What motor is everyone putting in it? Anyone going electric with it?

I have a Syssa 30cc that should work well with this airframe. I've read all the posts and didn't hear anyone say the plane had any bad tendencies? So, I just might have to to see if BlackFriday will be having some good deals.

Jim, Thanks for the quick response! Now I understand why Todd is selling a drill gig. When I saw that on his site I thought it to be odd, but it makes sense now. I asked Todd to go through the engine while he has it. Be interesting to see what, if anything, he replaces beside those items that need updates Regards Chuck

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I've been flying the motor since August 2009. I just shipped it back to Todd. The only reason I sent it back was because the ground leaped up and smashed my airplane; otherwise, I'd still be flying the motor. The first day of rain just hit, so I'm lucky I sent the motor back when I did. I'll start building when I get the motor back. I don't have a clue what updates he's done on the motor. I haven't been following the thread, I've just been flying the motor. Regards

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Hi All, I have a question. I planted my Funtana 125 and can't get it to grow, so I'm going to replace it (possibly) with a 30cc EDGE 540 ARF-QB from Aeroworks. Weight should be about 10.5lbs and this motor will handle that with authority. What I don't know about is the flying qualities of the Aeroworks 30cc Edge. Does the 540 have any bad tendencies (i.e. tip stall, etc.). I choose to ask the question here rather than on the Aeroworks forum because I believe the answer may be a bit more objective. All comments welcome. Thanks Chuck

30% EDGE 540
Hi all, Well over two years ago I bought an Edge from Wild Hare. Today I finally did the maiden flight on it. It has a DA 50 and I fly at 2700 AGL, so the air is a lot thinner here and the performance is not nearly as good as sea level. I was a little skeptical about how the plane was going to fly with a DA 50 at this altitude. This is an amazing plane. Power plane is a great match for this platform. I t'sa floater...it doesn't want to land. Very axial roll, tracks great. I set the CG a bit too far forward for the maiden but it's much easier to fly that way then to have it too far back. I want to set the CG at neutral and start burning gas. TOM, great product. When the economy gets back up I'll be looking forward to spending money at WH Regards Chuck
