RE: Accesory for aluminum grinding
90% of the time I use a 6" sanding disk with 60-100 grit paper. For roughing I use a hacksaw, bandsaw or even bolt cutters. Be careful of magnesium parts. The sanding dust is extremely flammable, when you work on steel the sparks will light off the magnesium dust.

RE: beast oil to use in breaking in a dle 55
I probably would not use " beast oil". [:D] The critter might not want to give up his oil. Any 2-stroke oil will work fine. Most folks fret over oil brands too much, IMHO. Just use enough oil in the premix and you will be fine. I am currently running Pensoil outdoor two stroke at 4 oz per gallon (32:1). My decision was based on the fact that Kmart had it. It does not slime my planes. It does give plenty of lube. I can not figure out why some are preoccupied with running oil poor mixes. If the engine maker has a suggestion do that. I never ran a special oil or mix for break in. I guess I spent my time flying rather than worrying about oil.

IMAX B6 confusing me, I need to measure amps
I am making the leap to LIFE as my RX packs. I was hoping to use my current charger. It is supposed to count MAH used or put back in a battery. When I discharge or charge the count is way too low on this charger. See attached, the yellow circle is around the counter. The figure illistrated is supposed to be the capacity. This is after a discharge then fully charge cycle. Obviously way low, what's up?

RE: IMAX B6 confusing me, I need to measure amps
I appreciate the help very much but, Now I'm even more confused. [;)] I discharged it down to 9V. The charger does that automatically for 3S Lipo. It puts a 2.? Amp load despite me programming in 5 Amps. So, once it is at 9V I go ahead and charge it to whatever the charger decides it correct, 12.6 V in this case. It put a number of 726 as the amps put in the battery that is obvious not correct. I could slap the right resistor across the battery, hook up a VOM and run a stop watch to figure out what the battery holds. I need to figure out what a flight used by how many amps I put back in the battery with the charger. With A123s the discharge curve is so flat that you can not judge remaining capacity by measuring the voltage. Can this charger do that? IF not what charger will? It would help to be able to charge via the balance lead. That would save me making up a special charging harness. It would be really cool to have a charger that operated on AC and could do tow A123s at once.

RE: IMAX B6 confusing me, I need to measure amps
You are correct, I didn't say it was. The point is that the MAH counter is not in the ballpark. I need to be able to measure what was used and what was put back with the proposed A123 cells. When I purchase a pile of A123 cells ,today or tomorrow, i need to know if I need another new charger. This charger does many types of batteries including LIPO and LIFE. If the counter is junk for LIPO it is likley junk with LIFE. BTW, it is not just this battery, it is several batteries, same gibberish. "726" means nothing. It is a smaller number with smaller LIPOs, but still not reflective of the capacity. Any ideas on why the counter gives a count that is not even remotely reflective of the battery's capacity.

The 18x6 is making about 1.1 hp at 6500 A 19x6 would probably turn about 5900 rpm http://personal.osi.hu/fuzesisz/strc_eng/index.htm The larger prop at a lower rpm, same pitch would be even slower. It sounds like you need a more powerfull engine.

RE: Blue foam fuselage
I have been using two part epoxy from the craft store. It is obviously junk. I live in a technical wasteland. One can get poly resin from an auto parts store. My idea regarding leaving a layer of foam intact is based on observation. I have made cowls by laying cloth over a foam plug. Even the thinnest cloth layer over a foam plug is really strong. Remove the foam and it is very frail. Why not leave a little foam in place as a stiffener?

Blue foam fuselage
I want to make a fuse for a large pattern plane. I have a bunch of blue builder's foam. I would like to make the fuse in halves. My plan would be to, stick two pieces of foam together with double stick tape. Bandsaw out the profile. Carve what I want. Carve out the inside leaving 1/2" walls (adds rigidity at a low weight). Add internal parts. Stick it back together. Glass with polyester resin and glass cloth. Bondo sparingly. Does poly resin eat blue foam? I want to use what I have. If need to buy stuff (epoxy resin) I might as well stick build it out of balsa. Besides I have found epoxy resin to be more difficult than poly resin. I suppose could also buy a pile of florists' green foam for my core, it is cheap.

RE: Throtle Spring
If you set up the linkage properly servo torque of a standard servo is more than adequate with the spring as issued. Leaving the spring in place puts a small load on the linkage and removes all play. The spring closes the throttle in the event of a linkage failure. I can not think of any good reason to remove or alter the spring.

RE: 8FG Super flaps, need help!
Thanks, I hope you are right. I had a revelation today, they call flaps "camber". That is sooooo wrong. I also noticed numerous misspellings. For a $500 radio they need to have an English speaking RC modeler re-write the manual. It a mess. I would expect that sort of thing from a Hobby King el cheapo radio not an expensive Futaba unit. IMHO the manual is organized backwards. for instance, if I want to assign the flaps to the slider I should be able to look up "flaps" in the index. There is no index! 134 pages and no index? If there were an index I should be able to go to the "Flaps" page and follow a flow chart. Instead the manual is organized into four sections based on the four quadrants of the whiz wheel. The table of contents is pretty much random. There is no organization that helps you find what you want to do. You have to scan down the columns to find what you need to do. If what you want is, for instance, "flaps" you are SOL because they think "camber" is "flaps". That is poorly done in the extreme...........I think.

8FG Super flaps, need help!
I can not figure out how to make the left slider operate the flaps, or any other switch or knob of that matter. Page 84 of the manual shows p-1/2 of the radio menu, it shows flaps. My radio is not like this. Simmilar but different. P-2/2 is completely different on my radio. I tried switching to "glider" and it changed nothing. Comment.........I saved my pennies. I did my research. I hemmed and hawed. I finally spent family funds to buy this radio,........... and I hate it. It is too complicated. I am not stupid or techno-phobic. I am a professional scientist for gosh sake! It is taking the fun out of my fun hobby. It makes my blood boil in frustration. Unless you are a techno geek think hard before you buy.

The Echo SB-1080 shortblock is the basis of the BME 50. If you are going to buy something then buy one of these. Of the 20 or so conversions I have done this is the best by a mile. It has everything going going for it. It is light weight, beam mount, and no goofie carb attachment work arounds. If you want you can buy everything you need to "convert". Get a NOS 13 or 15mm walbro carb that has an accelerator pump. Check on EBAY for a NOS carb.

Recomend me a motor?
I am working on a scratch build Airtronics Q-tee. It was my first RC airplane in about 1976. It used a Cox 049. I would like to buy a motor form Hobby King or similar that would turn a 6x3 prop at about 15k. That would be about 10 amps? I would be running 3S lipos. So about 1500KV?

G38 carb
A friend at my club is having trouble with his G38 carb. It is a WTA 6. Wanting to be helpful, I pointed out that one can buy a NOS carb off Ebay cheaper than a rebuild kit. I looked through my box-o-carbs and notticed the WTA 6 has an odd angle on the main butterfly pivot pin. He is not interested in changing his linkage. Compensating for to much current draw?
I have a Park 300 out runner and 10A speed control. Using a 3s lipo the props I have are drawing about 10 amps. The motor is rated for 7 amps. It is getting hot. If I throttle back a couple of clicks I can get it down to 7 amps. Can I adjust the throttle volume to obtain the correct current with my props? I see this as a way to make a "virtual" 2S battery. Am I missing something?
