RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Camp Hale!!! Now there's an idea [8D] Dillon Reservoir is down a little ways but not as bad as I've seen in the past. All the rain lately has really helped! Thanks for the pics. I may try and shim the gear a little myself - it sure can't hurt to try. Flying off the grass didn't help any either. I had to add 12 oz of nose weight to balance at the recomended point, so after a few more flights I might remove some to get the weight back just a touch. Came in at 10 lb 12 oz.

RE: Topflite Gold kit P-47
Looks GREAT!!! Finally painted mine and starting final assembly. I decided to take the easy way out and went with the color scheme shown on the box. I made one change and used black for the anti glare panel and spine as shown in this link: http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2007/08/profile-p47-thunderbolt-william-dunham.htm

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
My OS 1.08 has been flying mine just fine for 8 yrs and over 300 flights. I've even used it for a glider tug and had more than enough power. Did I mention our field is at 8700' elevation?

RE: Garage workshop
If the interior is drywalled, there's a good chance the walls are insulated. Just cut a small (4"x4") hole in the drywall and see if there is insulation. Could save you a lot of work.

Painting Super Coverite
I'm building a Sig Liberty Sport and have covered it with Super Coverite and ready to paint. Has anyone painted WITHOUT using nitrate dope first? If so, what primer and paint did you use to get a fuel proof finish, and good adhesion? I've never used dope and would like to avoid the extra steps involved with it. I know Coverite recomends nitrate dope before painting, but I would think with modern technology that there is some paint that will work without using the nitrate dope first. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Expert repair help needed-Byron P-51
I recently sold my Byron P-51 on that auction site to a guy in CA. Built a crate for shipping and took great care in crating it. To make a long story short, the trucking company managed to drop something on it, breaking the crate which was made with 1x3 materials and causing sever damage to the stab and fuse. Needless to say the buyer was heartbroken when he saw the damage. He has no experience in repairing fiberglass or foam. The repairs will be difficult even for those of us with experience. He lives in Woodland, CA which is about 40-50 miles from Sacramento. 2 questions- would anyone in that area be willing to look at the plane and give an estimate for repairs to be used for insurance purposes and second would anyone be interested in helping him with repairs. Iknow this is asking an awful lot, but he really wants to get it repaired to flyable condition. Thank God he opted for the insurance. Here's some pics of the damage.

The belts are Gates 5M450 PolyFlex. I had my local auto parts store order me a set. Any parts store that sells Gates should be able to order them for you. Scott

Thanks for the links. Some great info there. I was already thinking about a pylon inside the canopy, so I guess it's time to get to work.

RE: Epoxy vs CA+ for tail feathers
I think the main reason to use epoxy over CA is more working time to get things aligned. I've used both, but go with epoxy when its a little more difficult to line things up.

H9 Pawnee Tug
Just wondering if anyone has used the Hanger 9 Piper Pawnee as a tow plane? If so, what engine did you use and where did you put the release? I've got one with an OS .91 in it and would be towing mostly 2M and smaller gliders. Any input and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Just like w8ye described. A problem with nylon bolts is when they break, the LG will usually go through the wing (I found out the hard way, twice) I prefer steel screws on the gear. Once you can avoid the 4-Star bounce, it's not as critical.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Built mine 5 1/2 years ago per the plans. I did beef up the LG mounting area after ripping out the gear a couple of times from less than perfect landings. I'm using Futaba S3003 servos and have not had any fail. Like I said in an earlier post, over 200 flights and still flying GREAT!!! Rcpilot, this pic is for you[:)] [image][/image]
