RE: what to do with 1/8 buggy now
The Fusion EX-1? I converted mine to a 1/10th scale 4x4 short course truck. Easy to do. The only trick was shortening the arms to make it legal width. The Fusion EX-1 is a clone of the Mugen MBX5. It might be "outdated" but it's still a VERY good buggy. You can also get some 17mm monster truck rims and tires and turn it into a monster basher.

RE: SLIPPER CLUTCH QUESTION
It means that your slipper is locked so 100% of the motor power and torque is applied to the drive train. For some vehicles and depending on your power plant...it's not an issue. But if you're running a pretty hot motor in a notably weak drive train, that's when you want the slipper. Tighten it all the way, then back off 1/8-1/4 of a turn. Easiest way to set the slipper in my opinion.

RE: Hpi blitz vs. losi xxx-sct
ORIGINAL: The_Shark I would get a team associated sc10 over both. the losi I hear has a old suspension setup and doesnt handle very good (and has high COG), I hear the HPI handles better, but has bad drive cups and the chassis is weak (snaps in half) this comes from talking to the racers at my local hobbyshop.
Sorry to say, the racers at your local hobbyshop are mixing up 2 models. The Losi STRIKE is the short course truck that losi released that was a total failure with the high center of gravity. It had a very similar design as the Slash except with mid motor. It was based on the Losi High Roller. Because of its failure, Losi later released the XXX-SCT which was based on Losi's VERY race proven XXX design. The Losi XXX-SCT is an AWESOME machine. I've owned all 3 (actually more because I've had a blitz RTR and ESE, an SC10 RTR and FT SC10 and a XXX-SCT that I later upgraded to the TLR XXX-SCT). And I can tell you all 3 are very good. I felt the XXX-SCT and the SC10 versions had more steering than the blitz, even with the steering upgrades to the blitz. Here's how I'd rate them Steering 1. XXX-SCT (both versions) tied FT SC10 2. SC10 RTR tied Blitz ESE with steering upgrade 3. Blitz RTR Durability. (all 3 trucks are incredibly durable) 1. XXX-SCT tied with Blitz 1a. SC10 (only because I had 1 chassis snap at the front but this was as much my fault as the trucks, but it's a recognized issue so I'm deducting for it) Jumping & Rough Track 1. XXX-SCT TLR + FTSC10 2. XXX-SCT box + Blitz ESE 3. Blitz RTR 4. SC10 RTR (the rear end was hard to tune to get it to handle well enough) These are my opinions. If I was just getting a truck out of the box to start with and not looking to dump the highest amount. I'd get the XXX-SCT. For the RTR designs (not the FT, TLR or ESE) it's easily the best of the bunch.

RE: I can no longer recommend the Exceed Forza
ORIGINAL: arless Dude move on with your Exceed Forza, they are the best buggies out there, they are lite and fast, and their chassis set up is the same as the  pros run in competition ''plastic with aluminum chassis parts''. A complete aluminum chassis will still bend if you hit a tire at 10 - 15 mph. The aluminum adds considerable weight to the buggy. You can jump curbs all day long, if you don't try to run wide open over a curb. Buy another brand and check how much parts are, If you can find parts at all, I run my Forza on asphalt and on grass, I take great care of my buggy. For the last two years and 10 gallons of nitromethane with no problems with anything. All I'm saying is don't be so hard on your self. Have a bless day
I'm a big fan of off-name/generic/under-dog type companies, but I'm also realistic about it. I've owned red cat, exceed, hobby king (actually acme), Team C etc. They all have good vehicles but to claim they are on par with other manufacturers is false. ANY brand can break but it's the probability of it occurring that is different. Exceed buggies and trucks are definitely on the low end of the spectrum. It's the quality of their plastics that really is the detriment. Now some people have GREAT experiences with them and some don't. But that's the problem with lower quality plastics, the consistency isn't there. They have good batches that can compare with higher end manufacturers and also batches that are way too brittle and weak.

RE: New buggy
For me the top 3 cars are Losi 22 AE B4.1 FT Worlds Kyosho RB5 worlds (latest incarnation, always mix up their FS2 SP Worlds etc etc LOL) The Durango is a great design but I see a lot of people trying to sell them off, plus parts support is suspect. The Kyosho, Losi and AE are proven tough buggies with great performance. The kyosho is probably the least supported of that group but it's a buggy you almost never see someone switch away from.

RE: Who thinks this is unfair....
This is a tough one. For me, I'd say, you should be running your Truck because there is a SMALL advantage to the buggy (jumping ability) based on the track as well (if there are no big jumps the advantage is lessened.) and you own a truck already. It's one thing if a new person shows up to your track and only has a buggy, you welcome them in and let them run what they brung. Its different if you have a vehicle specifically for the class that's being run and you decide after the fact you want to run something with, even a slight one, an advantage.

The first one is unlike any Kyosho I've ever seen. Its similar to the old super alta, but not one. The Stadium truck is 100% a Duratrax Evader. Probably the ST based on age and having the aluminum shocks. The HPI appears to be the original RS4 but the chassis is different.

RE: The Short Course scene...
In my opinion it's 3 fold 1. They can take more abuse because of the big bumpers (not snapping a-arms like buggies or ST) and closed wheels. 2. The realism factor. They look the part 3. The racing is much easier for beginners. Because of the 2 factors above, the races tend to be a lot more "aggressive" with bumping or out right hitting. You can't drive that way with open wheel and have your vehicle survive the race, which can be discouraging for new racers. You don't have that discouragement with short course.

The problem you have is they're RC10T's. You could get someone to spend $600 and one might go for $200. It's a matter of putting it in front of the right person. If this was an RC10 (not truck) that would be different. I think Proant1 probably has a fairly accurate number. I wouldn't try and sell them at the same time though.

If you're looking at doing a true survey, you need "I wouldn't be willing" and lower price points. I can't submit my vote, because I wouldn't be willing to spend $40 because my local track only charges $15 to race, and when you buy racing, you get free practice. I don't get to go more than 3 times per month.

RE: Pistol grip vs. regular transmitter
definitely pistol grip. To make it easier for transition. Instead of pointing it forward (think of gun pointing forward), point it to the right (assuming you're right handed). And then the steering wheel looks just like a steering wheel in front of you. The finger throttle will be natural and then with the wheel facing you, it'll feel "normal". It's how I teach all my kids.

The Mad Force is an AWESOME truck! Good luck breaking it actually. Tough as nails. Look up some youtube videos. Buddy of mine has a twin force with dual 17 turn brushed motors and that thing wheelies all the time and he bashes it HARD!!

RE: What is the name of this vintage buggy?
That actually would be a Tamiya Vanquish with Kyosho gold shocks on the front and Kyosho Platinum shocks on the rear. The vanquish was the budget model of the VERY cool Tamiya Avante. It came with Tamiya's cheap yellow oil shocks so a shock upgrade was pretty common.

RE: Are all brushless motors created equal?
You're going down a road that I don't know all the answers to, but I'll add this to the conversation. Generally speaking. (Caveat: Gearing is adjusted in order for both setups to have similar top speed) Lower KV higher voltage will be more efficient with slightly more torque than a higher KV motor on less voltage.

RE: going short course or stadium truck
ORIGINAL: Eman77
ORIGINAL: ThunderbirdJunkie
ORIGINAL: cumquat there is a gear diff option for the t4 but there isnt one for the kyosho. i hate ball diffs.
There is indeed a gear diff option for the Kyosho. ThunderbirdJunkie hates gear diffs. They allow too much wheelspin on corner exits and too much unloading of a wheel in fast rough sections. People that don't race should refrain from offering racing advice.
Does your hate for gear diffs apply to 1/8 as well? Obviously since I don't race, I can't speak to how they differ on the track. I can speak to what I like for bashing though, and gear diffs are nice since it takes user-error out of the equation. I have had success with ball diffs too though, so it's not like their fragile. But that's a different discussion. But since it seems that 1/8 is exclusively gear diffs, do your comments regarding wheelspin on corner exits apply there too?
I won't speak for TBJ but 1. 1/8th off road is almost exclusively 4WD which changes the equation. You're also working with a center diff which also changes the equation of the differences between gear and ball diffs. There's no comparison of a gear diff driveline in an 1/8th scale and a 2wd 1/10th gear diff. Lets not turn this thread into a gear diff vs ball diff fight. My PERSONAL OPINION is that for 2wd 1/10th scale, ball diff is better for racing (for the issues that TBJ stated, and frankly once you have a ball diff built right, there's less maintenance for me PERSONALLY....YMMV). To the OP. Go to the track and see if a couple guys will let you take their trucks for a spin or two. Drive both and see which you have more fun with. I personally like 2wd buggy the most but I only get to race SCT now because it's all that runs at my local track. You can tell the difference between the guys who grew up racing open wheel and the newer guys who only have run SCT. The guy who tries to take you on the inside by bouncing off the side of your truck sending you into the wall while he keeps going.....that would be someone who never raced open wheel before.

RE: Are all brushless motors created equal?
ORIGINAL: Elcee PART 1: If I get an unbranded 4 pole 2345 kv motor and gear it so my RC hits 50mph and generates ''a handful of torque'' then get an identical RC but high-end branded 4 pole 2345 and use the same gearing, what would the results be? I'm assuming here that both motors have the same number of turns. PART 2: If I have a 2345 kv, 3456 kv and 4567 kv motor from the same manufacturer and gear them all to hit 50mph, which would get there the fastest? Does this correspond to the one with the highest torque or is it mostly irrelevant as the acceleration will be traction limited? Thanks for your time. LC
To answer part 1, depends on the brands. A tacon (no name) 3200KV tested to be about the exact same as a Traxxas 3500KV motor. There are some "no name" brands that I'd have faith in and others, not so much. Best bet is to ask about a specific brand even if its "no name" Part 2: KV is revoltions per volt. So if you take a 2345KV motor running on 3S (call it 12 for argument sake) that motor will hit 28140 no load RPMS while the 4567 motor will hit 54804. Obviously it's going to be easier to hit higher speeds with high KV rating, but you do give up some torque to do so, but that's not a linear equation. It's not like a 2500KV motor has twice the torque and half the rpms of a 5000KV motor. If you want speed runs, get a higher KV motor, but dont forget, it's as much to do with battery as motor. Your 1/8th scales run 40's and high mph and usually have very low KV motors because they compensate with voltage (which is more efficient). PS I gave a very basic explanation. there are others here who can answer with much more detail. Also don't flame me over nuances if my main point is accurate.

RE: What is the definition of a roller?
ORIGINAL: silvermansteve this thread might show there is no one, settled, definition. Â especially if a roller does not have to be equipped to roll. Â no?
Yes, it shows there are different opinions, but I'll still hold to the common thought If it can't roll....it's not a roller. It's a "pre-roller". To me RTR (ready to run) means out of the box it should be ready to run (batteries are a debate on this issue, I think RTR should mean batteries but that's debatable) ARTR (almost ready to run) means motor, ESC (if electric) and servos, no radio or batteries. Roller means basic vehicle with no motor or electronics Pre-Roller means basic vehicle with no tires and maybe no body. Now most of the items have something subjective about them, which is why you need to specify every detail prior to a purchase, but a Roller HAS to have tires otherwise....it can't roll.....

If you're looking for an inexpensive but competitive stadium truck, this one fits the bill. Yes it's 2 generations (if you count the t4 and t4.1 as different generations) old but it's still very competitive. The powerplant in it RIPS!! and the rest of the electronics are very good. The servo is the weak link but hey, for the price it's not bad. If an when you break a piece, replace it with T3 parts (they are a little more durable) if available.
