RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
RCBoosted, I first created a virtual joystick in control panel and then go to the actual PPJOY software. Myversion is 0.82 and is thus older than yours. The on the actual joystick software I need to choose the virtual joystick i created and the serial port I use. It then asks me for the protocol to use with the software which is Zen Hua. You have to leave the actual software open for it to work. Then open up your simulator and set it up. I use clearview and FMS and was up and running very fast. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi there, To sum all of this up in short, it would mean not going for hotter motors while you are learning to fly, but that only holds if you got the 36 turn motor and not the 70 turn motor. By the sound of it I got both the stock motors as 70-turn motors and therefore could only get my heli to lift without a 11.1V Lipo. If you use a 11.1V lipo make sure u have the fuses to t the motors fixed otherwise their is a chance of burning your 4-in-1. This only holds for the 11.1V Lipo. Otherwise get a 7.4V Lipo and enjoy your flying. If you do get itchy and want to start upgrading rather upgrade to the 36,37 or 60 and then to the T-REX. The issue of going seperates on these small heli's is not worth it if you want to spend some bucks. If you do rather go for a 36, 37 or 60 barebone and fit your own electronics because it sounds like the electronics on these are not worth the money in any case. I was lucky, unlucky to get some type of superskid with my combo and stuck with it. I never tried my heli without my superskids so I cannot comment. The DF4 is a very skittish little heli to master but once you can hover and do some FF flight you are ready for the bigger boys. Yes, it does go left when it is in GE but can be accounted for by going quickly above that or adding a bit of right stick to it. It takes a lot of hammering and therefore it is the best bird to start with, and yes it is not that easy to fly but will get yoiu there faster and cheaper[:D] Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi jlines, How high do you hover? If you try to hover in ground effect it will always yaw and slide to the left. Try and hovering it at about 3-4 feet from the ground and it will be much more stable. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera 76C
Hi there, I have seen it first hand yesterday and looks very cool. Just a word of caution there is also a 76B which has the cyclic collective pitch already fitted with a 7 channel radio. I do not think that is the way to go if you want to go CCPM. Rather go then for one of the bigger walkera heli's. I am thinking of the 76C as a replacement instead of the DF4, because a lot of the spares on it is still DF4 spares it just has a aluminium frame, tailboom and a bit different tail rotor holder. I am thinking to replace my DF4's tail rotor holder with that of the DF76. But all in all it looks much stronger than the DF4, and you can actually change the pitch of the helicopter although not dynamically. Yes, you can upgrade the heli to 3D but it is not worth the money, I would just have loved to buy the DF76 instead of the DF4 as my first Heli. It also has a polycarbonate canopy like the DF36, which you can easily paint to your hearts content and it is much stronger than the DF4's split canopy which you cannot really paint unless you have the correct undercoat to apply. RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi guys, I have a pair of blades that has some chunks out of the blades, but at more or less the same places, so I thought I might try the cord clipping. As I understand it right, the chord clipping is reducing the lift so that you need more headspeed to lift it which generates more centrifugal forces which makes it more stable. How much more? Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi scorp27, Generally, you would not need fuses with a 7.4V lipo, but any motor causing a short or for some other reason drawing too much current can blow your 4-in-1. It depends on what motor you are going to use with the 7.4V Lipo because if you use a motor with a lower than usual inductive resistance the current can also be too high for your 4-in-1. I have it on my DF4 but it is because I use a 11.1 V Lipo with a stock motor (I think it is the 70Winding motor). I have already blown quite a few fuses which would have normally ended in frying my 4-in-1[:D] Regards Nic

RE: buying first helicopter?
HI there, There is also a new guy on the block namely the Walkera 76C. It is basically a newly designed DF4 but much more robust by the looks of it. It can apparently be upgraded to have collective pitch so you start out with a fixed pitch helli and when you master it you can upgrade it to a collective pitch heli. Regards Nic

Walkera 76C
Hi there, Well, I do not have a 76C yet, but would like to talk to people that have one. I have the DF4, but what I see from the 76C it is a much more robust design, and a definite replacement for my DF4. I have quite a few DF4 electronic spare etc. which I can use on a barebone kit. Does anybody know of a place that sells a barebone kit for this DF76C? Can anybody elaborate on their flying experience with this model or even post a video of it. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
Orion, Sounds like you have major bearing problems on your motor, or the motor shaft is bent. The reason the temp is down with the mesh been very loose is that you do not have so much friction. With the mesh set as it should be you are going to have a lot of friction if the bearings are worn out or the shaft is bent and therefore the heat. Regards Nic

RcBoosted, Get an old computer power supply and mod it to work with your charger. It has plenty of current and is dirt cheap, just a bit of soldering needs to be done. Here is a good link to the mod: http://web2.murraystate.edu/andy.batts/ps/PowerSupply.htm Regards Nic

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
Hi soneebee, Maybe a long shot in the dark, but is your blades fitted very tight? I have the same wobble with my heli when I start it up and the blades is not in line but after the centrifugal forces pull them straight I do not have any wobbly problems. So if your blades are fitted too tight they might not be able to pull themselves straight and would go on wobbling. regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Orion, I know exactly how you feel. I also had two stock motors, deans connectors, different main blades, checked the spacing on the gears, two 4-in-1's and nothing worked until the 11.1V Lipo. I am pretty sure if I tried a 6Volt motor at that stage it also would have worked. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi there, Another way to test the motor windings and maybe the best way is to measure the current through the motor while connecting the stock battery straight to the motor. The one with the higher current should be the 32-turn motor. I did that at some stage but it seems I was unfortunate enough to strike two 70-turn motors[:@] I bought it from the same guy and it was obviously from the same batch. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi Orion and other guys, I think this time we got to the bottom of the DF4 lifting problems. THroughout the whole thread everybody is talking about being lucky with a motor or not. It seems like are you lucky to get a 32-turn motor or unlucky to get a 70-turn motor. This would make a huge difference in the performance of the motor and or stock batteries. I think the guys telling me they are flying great with the stock DF4 was lucky enough to get the 32-turn version of the motor and therefore the stock battery would work nicely on it. If I knew that there was two versions of the stock motor I would have spent much, much less time and money trying to get it flying. My only question now is, how do you know which version do you have without dissasembling it. I suppose using a sensitive AVO meter would indicate the difference with the amount of resistance in the wires. If the 32-turn and 70-turn has the same gauge wires then the 32-turn should theoretically be half the resistance of the 70-turn. So if I was a newbie and had lifting problems, this would be my very first check to solve my lifting problems. Yes, GTX all that stuff you were indicating can also have an influence but the motor would be the number one problem if it has a higher resistance and would therefore not produce the required power that it should. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi WER, I had endless problems getting my DF4 to lift out of ground effect for the first month and a half. I know that a lot of people claims that they can fly with the stock battery and the 7.4V Lipos. I tried them all with no luck. The only thing that worked for me was a 11.1V Lipo with a 7.5A fuse in line with the main motor and a 2.5A fuse in line with the tail motor. I firmly believe that to get the stock battery and the 7.4V Lipo to work properly you must get a 6V motor so that you can get enough power to lift with authority and not just hanging in ground effect or above it. With my 11.1 V Lipo I developed a new problem though and it is to keep it eye-level and not shoot of into the air[:D] By the way the fuses actually protects the 4-in-1 and not really the motors but it would help too. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera Dragonfly #36
HI orion, Did you check that your GYRO sensitivity is not set too high? The most likely cause of tail wagging appears to be that the sensitivity of the gyro is set too high and then the gyro seeks the whole time for equilibrium and goes into a resonant action which causes the tail wag. Bring down your sensitivity slowly until the tail wagging stops. Regards Nic

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi guys, Just a bit of feedback on a mod I did, I had some extra ball links left from my DF36, and replaced the z-links on the servo's of the DF4 with ball links. I may be dreaming but I do have a lot more cyclic response from the time I did that. The reason obviously is that I have a lot less slop on those links, but maybe it is because my skills are getting better each day[:D] Regards Nic P.S. I will post some pics of it in a day or two on my gallery.

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Hi guys, I am slowly getting the hang of this little heli. Everytime I go out it seems my flying is improving, or should I say hovering at this stage still. My only real problem I have at this stage is that I am really battling to keep the heli at the same height. It seems like the heli does have enough power because if I open the throttle it sours into the air. I just battle to find equilibrium so that I can hover at the same height. In the short periods it does hang in the air I get to hover it within a few feet, but the height thing makes me loose concentration. Any suggestions as to what I can do to teach me to get the height right, or is this a matter of practising? Regards Nic

RE: DF36 vs Lawnmower
Just a question on this, I read that you cut the throttle and the heli dropped out of the sky. What is the autorotation, supposed to do then? I understand this from the DF4 as it has direct drive and if you cut the throttle it stops basically rotating and falls like a brick but it should not happen with the df36 as far as I could gather or is the auto rotation for 3d magic high up in the air? I have a DF36 but I am not flying it yet as I want to hone my DF4 skills first, before spending money on spares for both the heli's[:D] Regards Nic

Hi guys, Flybob I think I am going to make myself a pair with polystyrene. If you glue a strip of plywood to a nicely formed polystyrene float and then use two aluminium strips to hold it together you will have a nice pair of floats. You can even paint it to add more flavour. Yipee, I have a low cost mod to concentrate on for the next few days. Regards Nic
