Although I have the Stafford kit in hand, I'm still in the planning stages of this project - I think I may build Suzy Q from the 44th Bomb group.

Correct tail markings for a B-24D of the Eight Air force
I’ve been trying to find the correct tail markings for a B-24D of the Eight Air force, 44th Bombarment Group, 68th Squadron as they would have been in July/August of 1943. I think that during this period the 44th had an “A” within a white circle, then squadrons were identified with QK for the 66th, NB for the 67th, WQ for the 68th, and GJ for the 506th BS. After looking at several books, pictures and websites, I realize that I now have no idea…

RE: thinning out kits, which one would you sell?
Thanks for your input. I'd like to keep all the kits but I have this crazy idea that a kit should be built. Once built, it should be flown. The jenny is a great kit in a managble size (ws 65") and hard to find. I want a nice, slow-flying biplane someday and I think this is the one. As for the B-17, I paid very little for it, and despite its small size it might make a good little project. They're always in demand and can sell it later if I change my mind. I'm thinking that I'll sell the Pica Spitfire. There are a lot of single engine warbird choices out there, and now Ziroli has a Spit as well.

RE: thinning out kits, which one would you sell?
I've been in a constant build state, boats or planes, for so long I do know - maybe 8-10 years? Anyway, the liberator will be my last build for at least a while, I don't want to end up with a bunch of kits sitting around that I'll never build. Why did you keep the Spitfire? Favorite plane? The 1/5 Spit seems like the easiest one to replace. I wish the Royal wingspan was about 110" through...

thinning out kits, which one would you sell?
I 'm thinking I need to sell a kit (for a variety of reasons), here are the choices: 1. PICA 1/5 Spitfire. I don't think the box has ever been unpacked. I took the plans out, couldn’t get them back in, and didn't take anything else out. All parts/plans/decals appear solid and in good/very good condition. 2. Royal B-17. eBay purchase, looks complete but again, if I take everything out to check I'll never get all the parts back in the box. Plans are yellowed and very FRAGILE - I'd say they're so fragile as to be unusable. Other contents appear in reasonable condition. However, it is missing a rear canopy and the main canopy has a small crack. 3. Joy Products Jenny. Complete but old kit. All parts/plans in good/very good condition, some brass fittings have tarnish/junk built up on them (sealed in bags). The jenny is my favorite biplane, excluding the Sopwith Camel of course... Tough choice, I'd like to keep all of them but my wife isn't a RC airplane builder and doesn't quite get it. I'm currently in the very initial stages of a Stafford B-24D build.

Speed controller wire length -Stafford B-24?
I'm an electric newbie, slowing learning by reading posts. Is the following post correct? Where do you Link this word and every other one like it in our forum to YOUR Website! plan on putting your speed controls? There has been a lot of discussion regarding long wires between battery and speed control. The consensus seems to be that you should not extend the wires between battery and speed control, but you can extend the wires from speed control to motor lately I've read just he opposite... btw, has anyone electrified a Jack Stafford B-24 within the past two years? All the posts are 2009 and older.

RE: Dan Palmer B-24 plan question
When it gets time to cutting parts maybe I'll check back in. 20oz/ft would be fantastic, but I don't think I can estimate any weights until after I cut a short kit for it.. btw, I am seriously looking into electric.

RE: Dan Palmer B-24 plan question
thanks iron eagle, what you described is exactly how I was going to proceed. Someone once told me there is nothing made of wood that can't be fixed, so as soon as I finish my current project I'm going to start this B-24. I’ll be studying the plans for quite a while, then I’ll cut it myself. Having built all my rc from kits, and only static from plans. Before the build I was going to study a set of Ziroli D-18 plans and see how he does things, mostly wing connections, elevator and rudder assembly/control. Attached is my most recent static build (50%, stage prop just before it was finished) – built from blow up 8 1/2”x11” plans from RC Universe. I’ll probably be posting more pre-build questions once I start digging into wing/stab incidence. I also want to ask just how much lightening I can do to the airframe, is it unrealistic that I can build a B-24 into an easy flying, lazy big fat bomber? Wing loading 35oz/ft^2? Thanks

Dan Palmer B-24 plan question
I really don’t have much of a problem reading/understanding the B-24 plans, but here’s a dumb question. The pic below is ½ of a fuse former. It’s clear where top and bottom keels go and where spars running the length of the fuse are put. But what about those “spacers holding the spars in place? It seems to me that using these spacers to “elevate” the fuse spars is a good way to build in error. Am I reading this right?

RE: What plans to use, what plans not to use?
The reason I didn't want to bring up electrics is the dirty looks you get from putting glow in a warbird. Could you imagine what they would say if I showed up with a giant scale electric B-17/B-24? I could get kicked off the field!

RE: What plans to use, what plans not to use?
The B-25 is a beautiful airplane, but there’s a lot of them out there – I’d build one if a ran into a great deal. otherwise I'll make something a little less common (B-24, A-20 Havoc). The main thing is that I want to building a multi-engine bomber. I like the idea of electric for reliability, especially in a twin.

What plans to use, what plans not to use?
Looking for a 95”-100” ws B-17, B-24, B-29 or A-20 Havoc. Except for the Jack Stafford B-24, which would be ok if I could get one at a decent price. I’m aware of the Dan Palmer 92” A-20 , but have not read good things about his plans. All the short kits are around 130”, putting the build way out of my budget. This brings me to the point of reducing plans down to the size plane I want and scratch building it. I want to build absolutely as light as possible as this will be my main flying plane - flaps and retracts only, relatively minimal cockpit and turret detail. What plans to use, what plans not to use? Thanks

RE: What does your Jack Stafford B-24 weigh?
I think I'm going to go for it once a kit comes up that isn't ridiculously priced. I’m going to paint it using an airbrush and omit the retractable features (keeping the flaps through) – I want this to be a good flyer with wing loading hopefully less than 40 oz/sf. I’ve read posts of people building them with final weights at 16-17 lbs, not good… What did you paint/cover it with?

aerowoof, did you put in the retractable lower turret, operational bombay doors? I was think that omitting them might save a few ounces.

Unfortunate, I'm thinking about making an electric version also. Do you have an idea of what addedd all the weight, any ideas on how to build one lighter, maybe around the 13-14lb range?
