RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
out? not sure what you mean. The primer is still in the tank. I ran the truck today and everything seemed to be running fine. I just did a little carb adjustment. I do notice that I don't have much compression when I start cranking over the engine when cold, but when it heats up, there's good compression. Any thoughts. BTW, I am new to Nitro and MTs, so bare with me cause I'll have questions. Thanks for replying.

RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
Jaymagic, did you seal the primer pump? I think I am goin to have to seal it. I don't seem to be getting enough fuel and the engine just doesn't have the top end it used to. I need to upgrade the pipe as well.

newbie question regarding spinning wheels.
So Iam close to getting my new MT broke in. My question is, why do the wheels spin fast when the truck is up on blocks? Are the wheels always supposed to be engaged, even when the truck should be at idle? thanks

Cd-rom motor source
My previous post was deleted, so I must make it clear that this isn't an advertisement[:-]... I have found an asian manufacturer for our cd-rom motors that quite a few of us have been looking for. If you want more info, PM me. the manuf quoted me $4+shipping per unit. I guess I have to specify that i don't profit from this - in fact, it has actually consumed quite a bit of my time... You try and give something back to fellow modellers who help you out on a regular basis, and waht do they do? delete your post and threaten to disable your account... can u say rcgroups.com? bitter much?

buying armatures, rotors, cans, & whatnot SEPARATELY
any of you folks know where i can purchase/obtain cans, armatures, & rotors SEPARATELY to build my own motors? may sound like a dumb question, but i'm tired of ripping apart harddrives & cdroms:)

Lookin' for various armatures, rotors, cans, etc.. for those of us who like to build our own custom motors. Any help, fellas? Frustrating... Can't seem to find anything under, oh, say 50 lb. industrial motors............

hmm
that seems exactly how to do it, but what type of wire can i use that will maintain a specific bent shape even when heated? and its gonna have to be pretty stiff... also since i've never used a hot wire cutter :) i have no idea what temp to use. :drowning:

I just gotta get an idea of SCALE now... i think whats gonna determine that is gonna be prop size. anyone know where i can find some 3-5 bladed props (both push AND pull)? i'm guessing i'll go with a 12 inch set of props & a .46 engine. open to suggestions. :drowning:

hm
yeah i know SOMEONE has done it... just a matter of how. it shouldnt require more than just the right type of wire. i'd probably have to do multiple passes, each time with a different segment of the cross-section.

well
i'm sure those that designed the cypher knew what they were doing, but i just see problems with it. first of all, i dont think thrust vectoring is necessary. and as for my CoG-shift steering, i'm not just adding dead weight. the engine is going to be off center next to the gearbox, so i going to HAVE to use some weight to balance the craft. why not use that extra weight to steer it? also, i know the hardware mounted ABOVE the cypher is so it can peek in windows, over walls, etc... but i'm not worried about people spotting my 'thing'. it'd be a lot more stable to mount all the extraneous hardware BELOW the CoG, just like a cessna. followin' me? And i'm not sure why you say that there will still be spin. as long as the 2 secondary gears are the exact same, and the props are the exact same, the outputted torque will cancel itself out. i HAVE considered integrating some sort of thrust vectoring for forward motion, but i'm trying to keep this as simple as possible. well, the first model anyway... :drowning: ss

gearbox
Awesome. Been trying to find someone to do this for a while now. Let me find a place where I can obtain the right size spiral-bevel gears (unless you have a stock of them  ) and i'll get some plans drawn up. Thanks again...

Custom-built gearbox?
Have any of you guys have to get a gearbox custom built before or know of a place with a wide assortment of gearboxes? Anyone with knowledge on gears and mech. engineering, I'm trying to obtain the following: What i need is a gearbox similar to a right angle spiral bevel gearbox, except instead of just turning the rotor 90 degrees via 2 spiral-bevel gears, I need it to use 3 spiral-bevel gears to turn 2 seperate rotors in opposite directions... see the pic. It's for a UAV i'm going to build... gonna look more like a UFO though I think. I've already emailed a few machine shops, but if any of you guys could help, I'd appreciate it... you've been doing this stuff A LOT LONGER THAN I HAVE.

one problem with that...
And that is that where I live, there are no clubs. There are no instructors. There are no planes. Hard to believe? Well, one assumption has to be made -- i'm going to have to teach myself to fly. I am prepared for crash after crash, but thats why i'm starting out with a trainer that can take a beating. What did you folks think of the solar power/dynamo ideas? Anyone ever tried it? Also, after I build and learn to fly the trainer, i'm going to begin scratch-building. I know its a huge jump, but i'm stubborn and one of the types of people who learn from doing, not by seeing. Is there a Scratch building (especially Foam) For Dummies tutorial/site out there? I'm confident I'll catch on quick -- just need some encouraging words and advice...
