RE: A123 Question
Thanks, Everybody!! As this is my first foray into the world of LiXx, never got into LiPo, as they make me too nervous based upon their history! I want to learn the right way of doing things, and I always get pretty sound advice here on RCU.. Thanks, Craig.

RE: A123 Question
Barracudahockey & K-Bob, I guess your views on always balance charging your A123s put me back at my original question, what kind of adapter do I need to make for the packs that I have? a couple of the packs have the 2 discharge leads, and then a single wire (Not balance plug, but single wire) My charger requires when balance charging, not only a balance port be connected, but also the discharge leads!! I am running the HiTec Multi charger X2 charger!! Any ideas, diagrams, etc would be helpful.. Thanks, Guys!! Craig.

Crazy4Flight, Ok, I thought I was loosing my mind.. I know they were doing some wild stuff back in the 50's and 60's, but I know I had never seen something like that!! :) good job with the Photoshop! as far as balancing my tiger, I luckily have some lead bar that is about 1/2" x 5/8" I just cut a 4" length, put it in place, added a little bit more of the Stick on weights, (needed about 12oz total!) screwed it all in place, and I should be good to go.. RE: Goldberg Tiger Club
BikerBC, talking about adding weight for balance, the Tiger I got from the estate sale has a 15/16ths Mac Tools Impact Socket as its weight.. Luckily I was test running the engine to make sure it would run correctly, before taking it to the field, and the socket came loose from it's Epoxy.. although had the socket come loose during flight, the previous owner had the foresight to use a zip tie to at least keep it attached to the airframe, it was dangling, but it was still there... Going to add some proper weight tonight or tomorrow tho! Craig.

RE: Radios
Airtronics SD10G, 2 RDS8000 (both 2.4gHz), 1 RD8000 (72 mHz), 1 HiTec Optic 6 (Non-Sport) with 72Mhz Spectra module, and a 2.4 gHz Spektrum Module, as well as a newly acquires JR 9303 72 mHz. also have some older Futaba 72 mHz that I don't use. Mostly use the SD10G, I would use it more if I had more Rxs for it. RD's not used much, Optic used fairly frequently, and the Jr is getting used a little more, as I get use to it! Craig.

RE: Airtronics sd-10g-super OR Futaba 8fg
Hi.. I have about 6 of the 8 ch FHSS-1 receivers, all of which I am using with Standard servos, with no problems what so ever.. there is also 5, 6 & 7 ch full range Receivers in the FHSS-1 modulation available.. there are also some Park Flyer receivers available. I have none of the FHSS-3 modulation receivers, so I cannot comment on the Digital/analog Servo issue with the FHSS-3 receiver issue. I do however love my SD10G.. Craig.

JKR and Crazy4flight.. Will do.. I am finishing putting in my RX and battery packs, etc. should be able to have some pics soon.. As far as the engine is concerned, I know that I have seen the brand before, I just, for the life of me, cannot remember what the brand is.. It has a Big K over a set of vertical wings that are swept back, was thinking either a Kavan (Did they make engines too?) or a Kraft engine.. Other Ideas? Craig. UPDATE: It is indeed a Kraft engine, Found a picture on the Net of an Identical engine.. I am not sure of the size, guessing that it's about a .60, running a tuned pipe!

How about another A123 question.. I have a set of 2s A123 packs that have just 3 wires coming out, the power leads and a single lead.. How can I hook these up to my Hitec X2, as it requires (For charging LIPo, LiFe and Li-ion packs) power leads, as well as a Balance plug.. is where a way for me to make an adapter that would essentially give me what I need without having to take the shrink wrap off of the packs, and completely rewiring it? Thanks, Craig.

Are you sure that they are Li Ion packs, and not LiFe (Lithium Iron) packs?? A 2S LiFe pack is fully charged at 7.2 volts... I can see how one might get Li-Ion packs confused with Lithium Iron (LiFe, AKA LiFePo4) packs.. Craig.

RE: Li ION Packs
Hello, Bubba! Quite a few of us will charge the batteries, go out and do a few flights, lets say 3, then re-charge the battery.. your charger should tell you how much it had to put back into the Battery in mAh, lets say 900 mAh then divide that number by the number of flights, which gives you an average mAh usage per flight. try not to use greater than about 50% of the batteries rated capacity, so that you will have a margin of error. Ex: 3 flights, Recharge. charger puts 900 mAh back into the pack to get to fully charged so 900 / 3 = 300 mAh avg per flight. so if you have an 1800 mAh you are right at the 50% rated capacity, keep in mind your safety buffer and recharge. Hope this helps. Craig.

OK, I guess I am missing something here, because the two links in the Original post, one shows a Crawler System listed at $219, and the Aircraft system is at $239.. I was comparing the two posts side by side.. Now If I missed another link that you posted, I am sorry.. if you have indeed found the Aircraft system at $199, then by all means, get it! Also, I don't appreciate how you responded to my post, you are asking for help, we are tring to provide the help, and you respond by saying "Once again, read the post about the GD $10 and look at the link to the transmitter I was talking about... Geez !!!" GD $10?!? OK, I am sorry, I won't bother to try and help again, as I seem to be of no help to you! Craig.

RE: What's the Difference in these Airtronics Tx?
Believe me, it's worth $10 to get the correct transmitter.. Using a Crawler radio will cost you a lot more than $10 in the long run, if you try to use it as an Aircraft radio, then crash due to the sticks self centering!! you can alwas wait a few weeks, they will go on sale for about $199 or sometimes less.. subscribe to the hobby people news letter, they are always sending out emails for sales they are having, I probably get about 2 or more emails a week from them! RE: 28 years later I just flew ! I did it !
Kyosho Joe... What ever you do, Please Please Please do not try to make one of those 2 planes you built with your dad something to learn on.. get the foamy you mentioned, learn on that, then and only then, get an ARF of something that would make a good second plane, such as a 4*, or a stick.. then after you get real good with that, maybe consider flying one of those two planes you mentioned.. It would be even better if you waited to make one of those 2 planes a 4th plane... you want to be a very proficient flyer before risking flying the planes that have such a high sentimental value attached to them!! Craig.

I used to impress the guys at my flying field by Knife Edging my Sig Kadet MKII the length of the runway!!! and I am here to tell you, that was no easy feat!! Was very fun tho! Also helpped me get pretty good at mixing the controls for a fairly straight and level knife edge, and that mixing ability transferred to many other aspects of flying.. was very fun tho! Craig.

I know it has been awhile, but I did the water trick, and it worked.. all of the major dents are gone, and just a few very small dents remain! It worked so well that there was one area that it stretched a little, but the pipe didn't burst, so I am figuring that the pipe should work great.. thanks for the tip, Airraptor!! Now to try it on a Macs tuned muffler for an ST S3000 that went in full bore, and the pipe is folded in at the curve of the muffler!!

RE: Its Official... I Ordered a Kit
The Kadet MK II was my very first build / RC plane ever.. I built it when I was about 16.. I just loved this plane.. it flew great, and was capable of some aerobatics.. the guys at my field said that they had never seen a Trainer knife edge like mine did.. with enough throw, that plane can do some pretty cool things.. I could even do outside loops with mine.. Lots of throw can do lots of cool things!! but save those throws for later down the road when you get very proficient at flying... As far as the build is concerned, it took me about 6 months to build mine, but I am a slow builder tho... I have a Northstar that I started building when I was 18 or so, and its bare bones are sitting about 5 feet from me, waiting to be finished, I am 46 now.. How is that for slow builder?? :) Craig

RE: What Would You Do?...rx & tx question.
you could see if someone at your flying field has a way to and is willing to cycle your packs couple of times for you, and find the average capacity of the cells.. then you would have an idea as to where your packs stand, and you could decide from there! Craig..

The Front 4 are some of the aircraft that I have in my hangar, leading the pack is a Balsa USA Enforcer With an Evolution 1.0, (That Pic Shows an OS .91, that his since been retired) left wing man is a Sig King Kobra with an OS .61, Right wing man is an Ultra Sport 1000 with an ST3000 (Plane crashed due to Battery Failure), and bringing up the Rear is a Tower Trainer .40 with an Evolution .46. (Plane Crashed Due to.. Well, lets just say that the TT wasn't designed for HI G aerobatics, and the Wing snapped in half at the cheap plywood joiner!!!) Craig. RE: Is there a radio that does not lose signal?
I agree with GreenGoose and BlvdBuzzard.. I also Fly airtronics, decided on it when I researched the forums, and it seemed to me that of all the 2.4gHz systems on the market, the ATX had the fewest complaints (as stated before, None are Flawless!).. I have been flying ATX 2.4 for about 4 years now, with no problems with the system.. I have the Airtronics RDS8000, and an SD10G.. the RDS is easy to program and Use, and has most of the bells and whistles that a recreational flyer would want or need.. the SD10G, on the other hand is one incredible radio.. very programmable and flexable.. I am still learning the SD, but love it so far.. check into the Airtronics, you wont be sorry! Craig. P.S. I have also flown Futaba and HiTech 72mHz systems with no issues and would have no problems using thier 2.4 systems..

RE: Newbie looking for 1st Build
Hi, Bill.. the Ziroli kits have always been regarded as great kits as well as great flyers, however, I wouldn't recommend this kit as a first kit built plane, and definitely not a second RC aircraft, especially since you would be transitioning from a Hobbyzone super cub foamie.. take a look at the Sig web site, they have some great kits.My very first kit was the Sig Kadet MKII.. it will allow you to learn a lot of the skills and tricks needed to build the larger more complex kits. and the bonus would be that the Kadet MKII would be a great first Nitro powered plane to transition to from the HZ super cub. RE: nigh battery question
quite a few folks use the 50% rule, do 3 or 4 flights, recharge the battery packs, find out what the charger put back into the pack, then divide that number by the number of flights, to get an average of mAh used during each flight (you used 900 for the one fliight!) then if the do indeed average about 900mAh per flight, and you have about 9000mAh in the two packs, then use about 50% of that before re-charging, about 5 flights (Or 4500mAh) in your case! Craig.
