RE: Slowing down a tank...
ORIGINAL: macnjam  All, for the coming Danville event the only issue I have with rules for the event is the scale speed of my tanks. I have a King Tiger with a Shumo gearbox reducer which brings that vehcile in line but those are expensive pieces of kit. Is there a solution for this that is non-mechanical? I was thinking a kludge like limiting the travel of the controller stick or somehow lowering the voltage to the motors. If this was posted I apologize for missing it. Looking to slow down a Tamiya Jagdpanther and a Sherman. Thanks. Joe
I have run my Sherman with the stock gearboxes and motors at Danville and it tested out OK, not too fast, so you can probably leave that one be unless you have upgraded to faster motors. For the German tank just follow one of the suggestions already given. Limiting the travel on the control can be done with programming depending on your brand and model of radio. I know my Spektrum DX6i can do it. Steve

RE: Questions about Tamiya DMD MF-01 T-03
On the MF-01 the CN-2 port is for the infrared emitter the CN-5 port has the voltage connection you need, it's output is a constant 7.2 volts so you will want to reduce it down to your LEDs requirements usually 3 volts. When I wired my lights on my Tiger 1 I used a voltage regulator to reduce the voltage and a pico switch to turn the lights on and off with a spare channel on my transmitter. The Sherman has the control of the lights you describe, I think only it and the Pershing have that control capability as they are the only two tanks that come with lights from Tamiya that I am aware of. I guess the KV-1 & KV2 do as well but I don't know if the control is the same. Steve

Your Stug looks great then and now, great idea with the speaker. The dog is not stupid he chewed up the map and they ended up in France, (where all the French Poodles were), instead of Russia, good plan. When asked how they managed to get that lost and what happened to their map, they used the often heard phrase, my dog ate it. Steve

Yes the Tamiya wrench and their "T" shaped socket tool will work for the 5.5mm but they don't have one for the 3mm head screws. Steve

RE: Hex Wrench for Schumo Screw Set
dlobmwm3, The Hex Head screw set for the Panther from Shumo according to ETO Armor's description: Set contains: 26 hexagon screws M3x6mm, high strength steel DIN. 4 of them as spare part. These screws replace the phillips screws MB2 of the kit. 36 hexagon screws M2x6mm, high strength steel DIN. 4 of them as spare part. This screws replaces the kit phillips screws MD3. 2 hexagon screws M3x40mm, stainless steel. This screws replaces the Tamiya screws MD1 for the idler. So it has M3 and M2 screws the 6mm is the length. The M2x6mm screws require a 3mm socket or wrench and the M3x6mm screws require a 5.5mm socket or wrench. I was able to find them both in one set at Micro-Mark, they had a large metric set here is the link to their online listing. http://www.micromark.com/21-piece-everything-set,9761.html you can use a 7/32 socket for the 5.5mm if need be, those you can find almost anywhere, Sears for example. Check out the local Harbor Freight if you have one in your area they may have the metric sets as well. Steve

RE: Tank Conversion
John, Welcome to the forum. The short answer is this http://www.dimensionengineering.com/products/sabertooth2x5rc as long as you don't care about sound or battling your tank and just want to drive it around. If you want sound effects there are several other options, such as using newer Heng Long electronics or Tamiya Electronics or using several other companies electronic systems. Check out some of the posts on the forum here and you will find many discussions regarding upgrading the toy grade electronics up to hobby grade. You probably won't have to install servos as many of the systems can use the hardware already in the tanks. Steve

RE: Sherman Cast Texture
I am not sure you could overdo the texturing, these are some pictures of a couple of Shermans I took in Europe, while some of the texturing is probably old paint and rust underneath the paint you can clearly see all the pitting from the casting process and scalloping of the turret where it was "cleaned up" after being cast. RE: The Terrifying T1E2
Rex, Great work as usual, but I am a little disappointed, you can build a beautiful work of art like that and even RC most of your builds, but you failed at rigging up a couple of HL 3:1 gearboxes to open your garage door, hardly seems possible. Keep up the good work! Steve
ORIGINAL: Rex Ross I thank you all for your kind comments. I just wish I had a lot more skill at texturing a cast hull tank. There are two more tanks that have that finish that I want to do someday, if I learn how to do that correctly the first time. My tank budget took a big hit today........I had to spend a bunch of my hobby money getting a new garage door opener. I hate it when that happens. Bummer! I hate wasting money on necessities. RE: Cameras on tanks
kev308, You may have seen some of my video on YouTube, I mount my camera on my tanks with an adhesive putty called Blu Tack made by Bostik, you can get it on Amazon. The nice thing is it doesn't leave a residue when you remove it and it is reuseable. I bought it on-line but I know 3M makes a similar material but I haven't tried it. The Blu Tack holds very well so you only need a little bit. Just stick a little on your camera press it down onto the turret or wherever you want it mounted and away you go. I don't have a picture of it mounting the camera as it is hidden by the camera. I'll look through my videos and stills and see if I have a picture or I'll break out the camera and shoot one. Here is a link to a video I shot when I first mounted the camera on the tank and I tested out the adhesive as you can see even over rough terrain the camera stays put and did not break loose. http://youtu.be/zlR5lyvYhFk In a couple of closeups you can see the strip of Blu Tack underneath the camera it is about 3/4" wide by about 2 inches long that's all you need. RE: Whats the word on any tank releases from tamiya?
Joe, I agree if they were smart they could release a tank with the VVSS suspension like an M-10 tank destroyer or an M36B2 and then just release upgrade kits to make some of the hundreds of variations of Sherman that used that suspension. I sure their engineering of the VVSS suspension would be of the same quality as there other kits and a lot less hassle than modifying the Mato suspension part available. They could probably just modify the lower hull they now use for the Sherman. Just my two cents. Steve

RE: Three tankers dreams come true....European Tour 2012
sollie, Looking over their website the Museum at Munster they do not list any event with a running tank that I could find. They do have the RC tank events there though. If you want to see full size tanks running I would suggest Saumur they list quite a number of them, it looks like they run their Panther whenever they can. As far as camping I would Google campsites near Munster or Saumur wherever you end up going. I would highly recommend Saumur over Munster for there static displays, I believe Bob would back me up on this, we were both impressed with the selection of armor (especially German armor) at Saumur when we were there. Whichever museum you go to I am sure you will enjoy it. Steve

RE: Three tankers dreams come true....European Tour 2012
sollie, I don't know what their schedule is regarding running tanks, that info may be on their website. I know that Saumur has some running tanks there is video of them on YouTube At the time we were not concerned whether or not we would see them run anythng at Munster, seeing the Tiger 1 at Bovington running was our main interest of the trip, Saumur and Munster were just bonuses that we added to the trip since we were over there. Here is the link to the Tiger 1 video I shot it is about 20 minutes long in total but has some footage of the engine startup and them driving the Tiger around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlrA_RyfH7c&list=UU1rXPGX49KGuMhHqW3EmXLg&index=1&feature=plcp Steve
