RE: My New OFNA!
Eh, I personally wouldnt enjoy breaking in an engine in freezing temps. Can be done with little issue, but can be a headache as well as new engines are typically hard to start already...add in freezing temps can make it even more difficult. You wont hurt the engine, but you might have a tough go.

RE: high speed bogging
Agree with above, but not with richening a full turn. try 1/8th or 1/4 turn richer and do a high speed pass. If it bogs completely down, or stalls at top speed...she is a bit lean. If it struggles to get to high speed and is sluggish she is probably too rich. Adjust accordingly after high speed passes.

RE: Savage Xl Questions
Yes, the carbs can easily be flipped. Loosen up the pinch bolt and turn them...but be careful, you do not want to damage the Oring(s) on the neck of the carb, so be gentle. I like to take the carb all the way off and reposition as oppose to just turning it to be sure I dont damage. As far as engines go....you have 2 great choices. You will probably get split recommendations for both of them. I run an LRP30 and love it, but have never run a Picco28 so cannot comment. There is not a wrong choice between those 2. Pick one and go with it in confidence.

RE: friends who dont like my hobby
Regardless of your age, people will knock down things you do that they aren't interested in. You have to learn not to care what others think in this regard. I'm 34 years old and am the only 1 of my peers that plays with rc. It can get boring at times, but if you enjoy it...keep at it. You're very young. You will have many more people come into your life that will be potential friends. Choose them wisely. The people you call your "friends" now, will most likely NOT be involved in your life in a few years.

RE: Have i made a misstake?
I dont think you've made too much a mistake. 1st nitro's are difficult to get the feel of, and as you said there is a learning curve. Many will come close to quitting the hobby altogether after experiencing the problems with learning a nitro engine and how it works. Redcat is a lower end RC as mentioned above. Learning on this Nitro will be a bit more finicky than others, however...if/when you do master tuning this nitro, future "better" quality engines will be a snap. Cold weather can make it more difficult to start, and keep a tune on a nitro engine. Follow the advise above and keep reading other threads for break in/tuning to educate yourself on tricks to make it easier. Trial and error will get you there, and if you get to the point where you want to throw the nitro in a river....stay calm, most of us had been there at one point. Once you do learn however its like riding a bike. Other engines may be different, but all carry the same principles so you'll be able to start/tune anything.

Can anyone tell me what pitch the stock spur is? Shredded a pinion gear on the first run of the newly brushlessed ST1. Could very possibly have been a loose mesh, but never found a solid answer on the stock pitch. Want to make sure I get the right one if that was the problem....Pinion I shredded was 32p. Thanks in advance for any help

Do yourself a favor and invest in a temp gun....search "Heat Cycle Break In Method" Yes, can help to drop some ARO into a new engine before firing to avoid a completely dry fire.

OFNA makes some good clutchbell shims that could align them up. Try to shift the motor forward first...if that doesnt work shim the clutchbell out.

High temps in the grass is normal. More strain on the engine = higher temps. I wouldnt worry too much about it unless it starts to creep to the mid 300's. Even on grass mid 300's is high.

RE: Pinion question
Thanks for the reply. I did want to try it, just wanted to know if it was so ridiculously high that it would be a waste of time.....will have to try and find out if it is a mod1 pinion...anybody by chance know this? Thought about 6s, but Iv had 1/10th scale brushless before on 3s and it was a bit too fast for me. Didnt get much enjoyment out of it due to it being so overpowered, so i ran 2s most of the time. Again, thank you

Pinion question
Just converted my TT ST-1 to brushless using RC Products Design conversion kit. I have this ESC/Motor combo in route: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9127 My question is this combo comes with a 21t pinion (not sure if it is a mod1 pinion or not). Is this too high for this system? I plan on running on 5s for bashing only. Is 18t or 19t more appropriate? Never owned or setup a 1/8th scale brushless before. Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: LRP .30 questions
Not quite on mine. Point being not all engines go by the "flush" standard of factory settings. Good practice to refer to the manual instead of assuming flush is universal on all engines.
ORIGINAL: proanti1 2.25 turns makes the needle flush with the slide, at least on my lrp 30.
http://www.savage-central.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=83174 try this tuning guide. Probably better to use silicone sealant to keep the msn from moving...or maybe locktight. Not good on the engine if that tape were to make its way into the chamber.

RE: LRP .30 questions
lrp30 factory settings are not "flush". download the manual for the lrp 30 to make sure. Sounds to me your rich. Too much fuel drowning your plug and extinguishing it especially on the high end (1/2 throttle and up). I run 20% with a mc8 (med plug) on my lrp30 with no issues. Mine doesnt run hot either...240ish is as hot as it gets with the tune I put on it. Search a tuning guide...purenitro has a really good one, but i dont have a link to it. hsn is 2.75 turns out from closed, and msn is 2.25 turns out from closed..there is no "flush" factory setting on the lrp 30....at least the spec2 pullstart http://www.lrp.cc/fileadmin/lrp_anleitungen/anl_25002_ma00191-lrp-zr30-spec2-pullstart-manual-e.pdf

RE: Reputable R/C brands and models? ? ?
If your new to the rc hobby I would not recommend buying used...especially if you are looking for a nitro powered vehicle. There is a learning curve to adjust to, and depending on your patience can leave you really frustrated and lost in terms of getting your vehicle to run properly. Used vehicles typically elevate this frustration since you really have no idea what condition the mechanics of the vehicle you purchase are in...outside the aesthetics. Buy new, buy quality, and there is quality w/o spending 600 bucks. As stated above Ofna and Jammin offer inexpensive platforms that are known for quality. If you do buy used...I would recommend getting a roller, and buying the engine new.

RE: Will Work on RC's
Be difficult, but there could be a market there. If you stay local that could help your bottom line since folks wouldnt have to ship their troubled rigs to you, but that greatly narrows your customer base. If you can expand the service outside your area. it is gonna hurt your prices, but give you a much bigger base. As stated above...you must have credentials or a good reputation established for anyone to trust you with their toy.

RE: Which big block would you go with and why
I just went through the installation of the New Era BB conversion in my Revo....it did take some playing with it but its doable. I did not use the throttle linkage that came with the kit, bought a GP pushrod with clevis to eliminate the slop at the mixer. This is of course after I spent several days trying to get the included pushrod to work. Also used a different servo arm setup that I saw on another forum and this forced me to shim up the guide that is included with the kit. Aligning the CB with the spur can be a trip as well....I actually had to shim out my flywheel so I could get close to a perfect mate with the spur. I installed the k4.6 w/o any problems with the backplate or pullstart interfering with anything.....however I do have RPM arms which may or may not aid in that, and the k4.6 probably has different dimensions than the BigRed. That is good to know because I plan on yanking the k4.6 for a BigRed or a Losi 454 so Ill have to do some research to see if Im gonna have problems there. If you do use the New Era kit....make sure to remember to locktight the engine mount adjustment screws (the screws associated with placing the engine further for BB clutch, or closer for SB clutch). I ran my revo for 15 minutes last weekend before I realized 2 of those screws worked their way out and my engine was wobbling. Heres some pics of what I did with the throttle linkage...hope it can be of some assisitance when/if you tackle yours.
