RE: Scale or stretched?
That's a good looking airframe right there. I bet it tumbles good the way it is. But I agree the scale tail controls would make harrier rollers difficult hehe.... I think I would really like for a manufacturer to take s bit of time, and come up with an airframe that is scale, but has the control surfaces enlarged just enough to do 3D.

RE: Scale or stretched?
Has anyone ever flown an aerobatic plane of decent size (ie. 30% or larger) that was anywhere close to scale? I've seen only a very rare kit or two that had anywhere close to scale outlines. The ACM 52% Edge comes to mind, as does the MAC 41% Cap. D&L Designs make a decently scale 27% Edge 540. The old Laniers and the 33% Great Planes Extra were all kind of scale, but I've never seen one that was put together and used the same components in a manner similar to the way we put together other more popular competition airframes. I'm sure there's a few more I'm forgetting in there to. The Magic Hand Sukhoi 35% I have is the closest arf I've seen to scale, short coupled and all, and it flies very nice. I can actually do a lot more aggressive 3D and tumbles with it because it is short coupled like the real one but it's big enough to fly good lines, have clean snaps, etc. I'm curious what other people are flying to base their opinions on.

RE: Still no regulators, going strong
For what it's worth, my 35% Carden at last year's XFC was a 35% setup with no regulators. 7.4V 4800 mah 4 cell Li-Ion on RX. 5955 (4) on ailerons 8611 (2) on elevators 5635 on rudder. At least I think that's what the big Hitec quarter scale servo was called.... I got a 2.4 RX and was paranoid about the whole resetting at low V so I got a power thing from smart-fly, ie. it's no longer unregulated. Still does good though, but I don't intend on using a power system on my 40%.

YOU'RE CRAZY YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE! Yea I'm going to get some 2.4's in my 40% and take out the regs in it when I get back to... 11.66 days!

And I know there are a lot of people that have jet waivers that shouldn't even be flying a .40 size trainer. I found my niche.
So let me know what kind of jet you get. Personally I think you should strap one onto an aerobatic airplane, like a Cap or something....

2007 UVFF Fly-In Piqua, OH
The inaugural fly-in at the Upper Valley Fun Fliers field is only a weekend away! First weekend in August will play host to our fly-in. I know there's going to be some big un's and some small un's, some heli's and probably a turbine or two. The field will pretty much be open as early as you want Saturday and as late as you want Sunday, but official hours are the standard 9-5 or so Saturday and 9-3 or so Sunday. I have a feeling Saturday night will be pretty fun! Plenty of wide open space around the field, with a 600 by 100 foot grass strip. Plenty of corn to pull if you feel so inclined as well! I already feel sorry for my 35%! Easy access off of I-75. Just take the exit for Route 36 in the middle of Piqua. Head EAST on 36, you'll pass a Wal Mart on the left and shortly there after you'll hit an intersection with a light. Make a left (north) and the field is about 10 seconds away on the right side of the road just after the short S turn. That's it! If you're on 36 heading toward Piqua, make a right at the same intersection (Troy-Sidney Road). I'll get some pictures of the field up soon. See y'all there! RE: Where are the giant scale FW-190's?
http://www.djaerotech.com/dj_product/scale_fw190.html#opts $1600 for the airplane kit. I got the D9 and it's in process of being completed. Within about 5-6 hours of work it is ready to paint. After that it's just sticking things in where they need to be (cockpit kit, air bottle, servo tray, firewall) and it'll be pretty much done. I think I will take quite a bit of time getting the paint good and adding weathering though. The detail work is simply amazing. I've flown the 190 A8 and it flies like a big pattern ship and capable of three point landings with no problem. The cool part about it is you can use your piloting skills to make it look as scale as you want, you don't need to fight any bad tendencies with it because it doesn't have any!
ORIGINAL: H5606 For those of you that saw "The Aviator", how realistic were the flying sequences in this movie? I remember that Model Aviation had a three part article covering the filming of the flying scenes with models of the Hughes aircraft not too long ago. I'm hoping "Thunder Over Reno" (due out next summer?) doesn't rely too heavily on the computer graphic stuff.
I don't think so, they had cameras everywhere, and at least one (sometimes two) choppers up covering the unlimited races (all classes).

Those are all correct for the plane to be considered IMAA legal. Giant scale itself is pretty subjective. I would consider now a days anything over 25% to be giant scale.
