19x11 prop/truturn 3 1/4 FAI spinner
Looking at trying an APC 19X11 on my standard YS170 (no CDI) and am wondering if the prop fits in the stock cutouts in a TruTurn 3 1/4" FAI Spinner. Anyone have experience in this? Thanks, Bob

RE: Glassing with dope?
OK Matt, I think I've decided how I'll cover my fuse - just want to run it by you. First, a coat of coat of nitrate dope to seal the wood, then 3/4 oz. glass applied with nitrate dope and then finally after a few coats Klass Kote primer and paint. I was also thinking of first using applying a coat of film formula Balsarite, but I figure the dope is just as light and will seal just as well. Thanks, Bob

RE: Glassing with dope?
Matt, How would you compare the strength (ding resistance) and weight of 'glassing with dope vs. epoxy or finishing resin? scale of 1 - 10 ? Thanks, Bob

Glassing with dope?
I'm at the point of finishing the (wooden) fuse on my Black Magic and am trying to decide what method to use. I've never seen anything about glassing with nitrate dope. It seems it would have the advantages of having the strength of glass and the light weight of dope. After the doping, if I go this route, I'll complete with Klass Kote epoxy paint so it will be fuel proof. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with glassing with nitrate dope as opposed to using resin? Thanks

RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
Boxtop, 80/20 is great stuff - use it a lot at work. Isn't the cheapest material but is very flexible and can be easily reconfigured. Here is their website - http://www.8020.net/T-Slot-1.asp Enjoy.

Lithium batteries
I've always used NiCds and have decided it's finally time to make the jump to Lithium batteries for my flight pack (receiver/servos). My biggest reservation has been the safety issues about lithium batteries. Are these batteries as fire-prone as previously believed? or has technology improved them? Claims seem to indicate Li-Manganese are the safest but I don't really want to be a guinea pig by being the first. I've been considering running redundant packs. Are lithium batteries at the stage that they are fully reliable? I would just as soon not add the extra weight (and expense) if it's totally unnecessary. I'll be charging my plane in my basement and will NOT be able to remove the batteries for charging. Also, at times it may be difficult to be present during the charging process. I'm considering the Thunder Power TP-610 charger. Is this way overkill and can I use a standard DuraLite charger instead? Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Lithium Manganese Batteries
Anyone have any experience with Duralite Plus Lithium Manganese battery packs? Good, bad? Any issues with vibration in a 4-stoke F3A? Supposedly they are easier to manage and much safer than either LiPoly's or LiIon's. 'Stay Balance' circuitry which doesn't require external balancing. A little costlier and a little heavier than LiPoly's but claimed to be much safer. Bob

Tmaxx 2.5 running probs HELP
I am just getting back into nitro car again i had a 1/8 scale buggy about 6 years ago. i now have a traxxas tmaxx 2.5 i got used. I finally got it tuned to where it would run very well very fast for about 5-10min at a time about a half of tank of fuel. well then it just dies i checked the temp with a inferred thermometer and it was only reading 175-180 deg F. It will not start up right away after it dies eaither. i have noticed everytime i have to start it up i have to prime small very small air bubbles out of teh fuel line. the truck has a new carb on it and o-rings. i have heard of people having to seal the back plate on the motor i did not know if i needed to do this or if it was a tunning prob or maybee something else any help would be usefull [8D] thanks

DZ Foam Clunk
I'm going to put a hopper tank in my new Black Magic and was wondering about the proper location for the YS DZ foam clunk. Does it go in the hopper tank, the main tank or both? Actually, I've also heard that no clunk should be used in the hopper tank and just to have the solid pick up (supply) line end in the center of the tank without any tubing or clunk at all. Thanks, Bob

Does anyone here know how to modify a Radio South Pro-Driver MK II to put in a delay start? If that's not possible, is there an external delay I can buy to put in line with the glow cord? Thanks, Bob

RE: Black Magic VF3 Build Thread
I also have health concerns with urethane coatigs. Anyone here tried KlassKote? Looks to be about the same as Hobbypoxy or Superpoxy. Had good results with those back in the 80's and 90's. Then they were phased out because of EPA regulations, I believe, so I'm wondering is KlassKote is really the same. Will it hold up to 30% nitro? Actually, what about using butyrate (sp) dope. It is supposed to be light. Never used it on a pattern plane but it used to hold up to C/L stunt planes years ago but nitro percentage was minimal (5%?) way back then (don't ask). Or a combination of epoxy primer and dope top coat? Bob

RE: Anybody in South Italy?
I envy you. When I was working for my Uncle (Sam) many years ago, I lived just outside Brindisi. I spent all my spare time in town and around the area. Very enjoyable. If you're taking a plane, take one that penetrates the wind well. As flat as the area is there was always a decent breeze! Caio!

ETOC Equipment Listing
I want to give indoor/light wind outdoor 3D foamies a try but am at somewhat of a loss as to equipment selection. I could go to H.L.'s website and check out their combo sets, but I'd like to see what the more 'expert' flyers at the etoc actually used. Is there a listing posted anywhere as to what equipment/modifications were used at the etoc. Thanks in advance, B.W.

RE: K&B .46 engine
i looked at the head and it has four headbolts and the head is bigger than the block.it says K&B on the block.looking at the front of the engine the exhaust is on left(looking at the front )goes down and under right side of engine and has two pipes going straight down toward the back of engine. The guy i got the plane from said it had one tank of gas run through it. and never run again. that was seven year ago.i have started it and its hard to start but runs alright, it hasitates a little when giving it the throttle too fast.It has a 11x7 propeller.I just wanted to know if this is worth messing with or be looking for some other engine. The plane is a P-51 mustang scale 57 inch wingspan. Thanks for any information.

RE: New YS140 exhaust components
That new header looks like it would present an awful lot of restriction to the flow of exhaust gases. Do you have any figures of comparison with the more common sweep type header? Also, is head temperature any higher?
