RE: New Jet Central Ceramic Plug
Hi Why can the plug only be used with jet central turbines?..their plugs are no different to anyone elses...just that with the gaspar fadec you can adjust the drive to the glowplug...as you have said in the texts Regards Mark Kyle

RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
Hi Butch and Bob I cant wait till each new video is posted its the highlight of my day watching them. Now dont take offence at this question as it is not meant as anything other than a question. Who is going to do the test flights?. I like to think I am a pretty reasonable pilot but if it was me I would be getting the absolute best skilled pilot you guys know to be doing the test flights. I haven't seen anyone ask this yet. I am not casting aspertions on bob's or butch's flying skills at all they may be gun pilots, I dont know but it was just a question of interest. All I know is if it was me doing this project I would be using someone other than myself who is the best to fly it Mark

RE: Sydney, Australia kerosene supplies.
I use helicopter maintenaince guys I deliver a 200 litre drum to them and when they drain the tanks they are not allowed to refill them with the same fuel again so I get the dreggs... usually at no cost except to drive the drums down to the airport and then load them up after the guys fill them and drive them back here. I supply 4 of my mates with the Jet-A1. The pain is having to pay for the oil :( I store it up in the stables at the back of the property. Don't store it near your house because insurance will wipe you if there is ever a fire. My stables are about 100mtrs behind the house so no drama there Mark

RE: F-111
Hi BJ The pics of the 1/10 anniversary F111 is a Harry Gurman aircraft that was a ducted fan version that Ian acquired a few years ago and it has been modified for turbine operation. That is the one that flew a few weeks ago. if you go to the top of this page you will see the 1/7 scale version that Ian has done from scratch. He has done all the ply formes and foam and done all the shaping and filling etc he has also cut the wings and tailfeathers and they are all sheeted etc. These will be used as plugs for a mold for this 1/7th size. The 1/10 scale fueslage that I have is a Harry Gurmans kevlar one it was one of the last that Harry made before he died as it is the latest turbine intake version. Do you have a plug or a mold for this F111 you have? The story was that Harrys wife after he died sold the molds for the fuselage and wings etc and they went overseas to the USA I believe. What have you got there..maybe post some pictures of them and who did you get them from. It may not be Harrys Regards Mark Kyle

RE: F-111
Hi Guys The 1/10 scale F111 shown by me two posts above this has now flown and it flys quite well according to Tommo. The landing was a bit hot and some small noseleg damage was done but only a 10 min fix. The wings were kept open and not swept during this flight. The F111 will be flown again shortly. Work on the big 1/7 scale F111 should recommence soon Hope your project goes well JB...where did you get the plug from?. I have one of Harry's original kevlar fuselages here I will be using as a plug. It is the later version with the turbine inlets NOT the ducted fan inlets Regards Mark Kyle

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
Hi Dave How are you going to regulate the A123 for the servos...the max rating for most servos is 6volt and some of the smaller ones are only 4.8. This means fully charged A123 packs will be around 7v which is fine for the RX but what about the servos?. I think you may experience some servo failures unless you put a couple of diodes in the +line to the servos to drop around 1.2 v to bring them back a bit. I have seen a few seros stop operating when used above 6v...considering that the loaded voltage of the packs will be 6.6v most of the time after initial usage Mark

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
Hi Ian You will love it...its more manoverable than the XL and flys really well when you have some grunt underneath it. I love mine and I made my tail feathers removable and took it to the ANZAC jet meet in February. Just 2 boxes totaling 22kg was esy to get it on the plane without any extra charges as my luggage Regards Mark Kyle

RE: 1/8th scale B-1B
HI Guys I find myself checking this thread almost daily to see if there is a new video. Bob has showm me so many better ways to do what I used to do it is unbelievable. These ideas are so simple and easy, kudos to him for all of this work he has done and I dont think he realises how much info and knowledge he is imparting to everyone by showing his methods this way. Keep up the fantastic work Bob and do not stop with the videos it is the highlight of my day when he posts a new one. I cant wait to see it fly. This project he is doing is up there with the Harold Huff SU-27 project and I didnt think anyone would get close to that Regards Mark Kyle

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
Jet-1A fitted easily and I just put 2 washers under the baby boomerang legs to make then fit perfect in the wing. I did have to cut out some small bits of ply to fit the main cyclinders in the wing but maybe 5 mins work on each wing panel Mark

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
Hi Dave I used Jet-1A retracts and the Jet-1A baby boomerang stle legs and they fitted easily although I did have to cut out a little extra from the rib to fit the festo I had on the end of the ram on the retract but other than that it works great on mine and was a easy fit. I have the 3.6litre tank in mine and I didnt have a clue that the brackets shown above were for the tank...I just made my own and hysoled them to the tank...now I think of it I should have woken up what they were for. Mine is screwed in not velcroed in though Mark Kyle

RE: Fly Eagle Jet F-15E (VT) 1:7 Scale
Hi All My Tiger meet version arrived today and I have to say I am very pleased with what I have got for my money. The wait was a bit long 29th of October I ordered mine but it was well worth it. I am impressed with the paint work and overall construction of the jet. There are a few little things like the bottom of the fuse is a little thin and the doors when they are open flex the bottom of the fuse slightly but it is not a problem. The stores that are all in one box as supplied have to be seen to be believed if there is anyone out there waiting for their kit. For the price I paid and the wait I do not have any complaints what so ever. I am a very happy customer. BTW the new retracts work exceptionally well of course will see what happens in flight but they take very little pressure to operate very positively and forcefully to either of the up or down positions. I will take a few pics and post them Mark Kyle

RE: I will never use Lipoly batteries again
The charger was a swallow that was used as the charger. As I said in the post I will never use them again after witnessing the aftermath. I have refiitted my PST reaction with A123 and also the Boomerang XL and I have to say they are impressive batteries. Its spooky to see the charger (hyperion duo II version) ramp up to 6 or 8 amps at first and then after that it changed and does the balance charge. It takes 8 mins to charge a pack after 2 flights so it is not any drama at all...the batteries get just slightly warm when charging at those currents. My mate is waiting on the confirmation of insurance acceptance and that should be this week. The opinon is that they will actually pay out. The owner will bide his time with it before choosing another model. My FEJ 1/7 F15E just arrived today and I have to say I am very impressed and over the moon about what I got the money and how well it is made Mark Kyle

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
Hi Jeremy I just got back late last night from Wanagartta Jets after a 16hr driving time done over 19 hrs in one day...its a long way from there to Brisbane. Had a great time as usual and it was fantastic weather. Had quite a few flights even did a duo with David Gladwin that started to look pretty good so a few of the guys said. The Lipo thing was a post I put up about 2 weeks ago here is the link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8591857/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm Its a shocker so I am converted to all A123 now and they worked great. I looked at my emails when I got home and I see one there from Fly Eagle Jets with the tracking numbers for my 1/7th scale F15...I hope it arrives by thursday :) Mark

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
Hi David I will have my Reaction there as well and I do fly mode 1 (bulldozer mode) not that upside down mode :) and mine is available as well if anyone wants a fly. I think I will do the change to the A123 instead of duralights..they are far more expensive and take a long time to charge and I have seen quite a lot of pack failures with some of the guys up here with them. I know the A123 are reasonably new but have been doing a bit of research on them of late and spoken to a few guys here that use them and they swear by them. All I can tell you I was shocked when I got the call from Glen and I drove out to his place last night and saw what you see in those pics. I have heard about the Lipo issues but had never seen it until last night. Mark

RE: I will never use Lipoly batteries again
There was no fuel in the plane at all just about 20 litres 1 mtr from it and a further 150 litres just behind the 20 litres.... The pack must have been a 2000 deg 4 second flame thrower as was said before Mark

Yes the guy who was charging it knows all about that and is very experienced....the only issue was complacency on all our parts about charging the batteries in the aircraft Mark

RE: I will never use Lipoly batteries again
Hi Chad I believe a swallow charger was being used which is not a balance charger. I have balance chargers here for my aircraft but I do not pull the batteries out to charge them...I will from now on until I change them all over. I was so shocked to see Peters F15 in this state...not to mention he lost his Futaba 14MZ as well it was sitting on top of the plane. as you can see it in one of the pics melted over the top of the turbine. It should be mandatory to charge them outside the aircraft. It was a expensive lesson for everyone involved I am just glad it wasn't me but I feel for the guys involved big time. My FEJ 1/7 scale F15 will have A123 powering it and the PST Reaction and Boomerang XL will be refitted as well. Its one of those things that you can see and say wow thats bad but it doesnt hit home until it happens to you or someone close and you see what the outcome is...It is a lesson I will never forget seeing Mark

RE: I will never use Lipoly batteries again
The Lipoly was installed in a place that was not easily got to for balance...so this is a big lesson to as you say always charge them outside the aircraft and make sure they are installed in a place where you can remove them easily for charging Mark

I will never use Lipoly batteries again
Last night I got a call from a friend of mine who was going to do the flight check of a new Avonds F15 the fully molded version complete will all scale options that belongs to a mutual friend of ours. I thought he was pulling my leg when he rang me but after I got out to his place last night the pictures tell the story. He was charging all the batteries to do a final complete check of all systems and do some engine runs today before the aircraft was test flown at Wangaratta Jets in a week and a half. All the batteries were finished charging except the Lipoly that runs the turbine and ECU. It was down to about 500ma of charge so he went inside to have a bite to eat and when he came back out to his shed the pictures show what he was confronted with. There have been a few threads on here about Lipoly batteries and I thought they must have been a rare case as I have never seen it myself. Never leave Lipoly batteries unattended until you disconnect your charger even if you think they are ok!!!!!. The PST reaction thread has a bit on it with one of the guys who was charging at the field after a flight and smoke started coming out of the model and I thought oh well its a rare thing well after this maybe its not. You will note in the pics if you have keen eye that the Futaba 14MZ was left on top of the model. The heat that has been generated during the fire has melted all aluminium in the aircraft including the retract units. It is amazing the shed did not go up as you can see the 2 of 20ltr drums of fuel next to it but you can see the 205litr drum of fuel next to the 20litre one. The whole shed is covered in black soot including all the cobwebs. The rookie’s nose has been deformed and it was about 1 mtr away not to mention the large extra in the corner that has had the canopy deformed. The black battery which supplied the chargers is under the stand. We can not believe that the whole shed did not go up I am going to replace all my Lipoly batteries now with A123 cells
