ORIGINAL: jselikof While on the subject of substitute parts, can anyone verify that the Shogun V1 flybar is identical to the Falcon part? I'm almost ready to order .070" music wire from smallparts.com, but oversize shipping charges apply since it is a 72" piece. Also, I don't really want to set up a grinding jig to put the flats on the ends of the flybar. "We" really ought to put together a parts substitution table and publish it somewhere. Probably would avoid a lot of repeat questions, including mine I'm certain!
Hi, Check [link=http://falcon.np.co.nz/index.php?q=node/1]THIS[/link] site out, there is an Alternates Parts catagory started for the Falcon Dave
That looks like it might be an inexpensive way to go SE, Taz. It's almost cheap enough that you wouldn't be out too much even in a worst case scenerio. I think if I had the bucks to invest, I'd give it a try. I do think you could get all the parts to work fine on the Falcon. The swash looks a little different, as in not being 120 deg type, but I believe the Falcon is set up as 90 deg anyway (others, correct me if I'm wrong here). Keep us posted if you do go with it, unless the cnc work is just sloppy, I can't see how you could go wrong ...

That's great news Taz and Es-R-Gr8 ! I think you'll really enjoy the Falcon, a couple of low cost upgrades like the setscrews will help make life easier, get her balanced out and check the screws and you're good to go ... Enjoy! Dave

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
ORIGINAL: ALC Update on one-way bearing. I picked up a main gear for a MX-400 which can be swapped for the t-rex. I pushed the bearing out with the socket and vice and it was the exact same size (good news). Bad new! It didn't fix my problem. Still have that wobble. Guess I'll have to wait for my parts to come in and change out the main shaft. Thanks for all the help again!!!! Just wondering if any one has a wobble in the main gear and it's not causing any problems when spinning up. Lorne
Hi Lorne, I had main gear wobble a while back. It was after a minor blade strike (hit the grass), so I figured it was the main shaft. I replaced the main shaft and still had some wobble but I found that the problem was the way the setscrews (for the Oneway Bearing Hub) were seating on the main shaft. I got new 3mmx3mm stainless steel setscrews and made sure that one of them was seating on the flat spot (ground at factory) on the main shaft. Next, I tightened the other setscrew(s). (use blue loctite). It took several tries, but I loosened and re-tightened the other setscrew(s), adjusting the main gear slightly until it was true and perpendicular to the main shaft. It was a bit of trial and error, but I could tell when it was not true by spinning the shaft by hand (with main blades off). Took a bit of trial, but I finally got it. Any slight wobble left soon disappeared as I spolled up the main shaft up (without the main blades and anchored to the bench). There may always be some slight deviation, but it should be fine and will tend to right itself as the heli breaks back in after the above process. You might also carefully inspect the main gear teeth to make sure there is not anything lodged there of a slight burr, if there is, it will depress the main gear slightly as it passes the tail drive gear and may cause a wobble. Check the collars and their setscrews also, they need to be seated perpendicular to the shaft and tight and solid as well. Hope this helps, Dave
ORIGINAL: fwdfwr Get a socket large enough for the bearing to just fit inside and place it underneath the main gear centered on the bearing. Place your new bearing on top of the old bearing. Place a c clamp with one end on top of the new bearing and the other end under the socket. As you tighten the c clamp it will press the old bearing out and the new bearing in. Be sure to replace the bushing (autorotation sleeve ats6020) if you can - mine was worn badly. Frank
Great Explanation, good process Fwdfwr!
ORIGINAL: moosemanty ... now if only they had a titanium tail hub/shaft[8|]......
Hi Moosemanty, The titanium ones are sold out right now, but you can get a high speed steel one until the titanium ones are available again. [link=http://www.microheli.com/mhshop/index.php?cPath=77]Microheli Tail Shafts[/link] I think you can also get a 2mm blank, HSS drill bit and you can cut it to length. I could be mistaken, but I think the Falcon shaft is only 40mm length but from what I've read the 45mm shaft is a little better in that it will give a slightly greater pitch and won't limit the servo throw. I'd like to eventually get a titanium shaft also. Dave
ORIGINAL: MightyGuru Thank you guys for the swashplate adjustment tips! That's where my problem was. My only problem now is I broke one of the main blades when I clipped the workbench trying to hover in the basement [&:] DOH!!! Should have known better. Is there a paticular size blade I could look for at my local hobby shop? They have a great selection.
As far as the blades go, 315's are the best fit for the Falcon. Trex blades are known to work fine, don't go with any that are longer than 315 or you risk chopping off the vertical stabilizer or tail rotors. Sorry to hear about the workbench incident, I think several Falcon blades have met their fate on workbench legs. Good Luck, Dave
ORIGINAL: MightyGuru Quick question: My heli constantly drifts backwards. Even with the CH2 (elevator) trim fully foreword I still have to correct signifigantly with the stick. What adjustment do I need to make?
How's your Center of gravity? You can check this by making sure that the heli is level (front to back). Place the main blades in line with the tailboom extended front to back, hold the tips of the flybar. The heli should be level, if not adjust the position of the battery forward until it's balanced. Probably do the trick, if not, post again and let us know. Dave
ORIGINAL: Es-R-Gr8 Screws ordered ! thanks for the reply ! Now tomorrow I get some blue locktite and I'm ready ..... to ask more questions once I get the Falcon ...hehehe
Yup, good to go! Just take your time and take a couple of photos of the heli before you dis-assemble anything major. (especially the Shaft Collar locations) The only really tricky part is making sure that one of the setscrews for the hub portion of the one-way bearing is seated on the flattened off portion of the main shaft. (they grind a little hollow or flat spot on the main shaft at the factory, so that the hub is somewhat "keyed", since this hub takes all the torque from the main gear to the head/ blades). Definately ... use blue loctite on all setscrews. Dave
ORIGINAL: stevennh I think a 2100-2200MAh 3S is about as big as you would want to go. The 2100MAh 15C cells I use fit well but there is not any room to spare. I am happy with the flight times I get with the 2100MAh cells. Steve
I've got a 2200mAh 15C and two OEM stock lipos for mine, but the 2200mAh is too big for the battery compartment and I have to strap it on underneath it. Not ideal, but it's super stable with the extra weight and does fly for quite a while. If I go through two of the 1300mAh lipos then the 2200mAh lipo, I'm definately ready for a break. I'd go for the 2100mAh 15C since it fits. Dave

In the meantime, my kids got me a Micro Mosquito for Christmas that I have been having fun with around the house. It has it's issues and might be going back to Radio Shack if I can't resolve them, but it's fun. It's one of those products that's brilliant in concept but possibly not quite ready for prime time. I can't wait to see what the future holds for these micro type helis. One quick question: Many posts refer to putting drops of "CA" on things. What exactly does "CA" stand for? I might guess "contact adhesive" and assuming its some kind of glue, what type/brand of glue is recommended for the plastic on our Falcons? - Thanks
Hi TheRone, CA stands for CyanoAcrylates ... Superglue, Crazyglue etc. are CyanoAcrylates. I just buy it at the hardware store, auto parts store, even the Mini-Mart. Dave
ORIGINAL: twistercp hi - got my falcon going over past couple of days heli is surprisingly good although find the left/right cyclic v sluggish? - ne ideas to make this better? the trannny is junk, must get something better - thinkin of speky dx7, any recomendations? one prob i have still, is if you up the throttle fairly hard [to halfish stick] it does something strange [sometimes!] - there is a high pitch whine the tail wags unsteadily - then if i reduce the throttle slightly it sorts itself out and tail seems to lock back on???!!! have checked all gears mesh well and are not broke - the rest of the time it flies great! anyone else got this issue? hey darock/mods - any chance of a falcon forum??????
Hi Twister, Regarding the high pitch and tail wag problem. My best guess is that the rear gear on Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft is slipping when torque is applied. It's an easy fix, just disconnect the tail pushrod (at the bell crank end), then loosen the tail rotor housing screw that holds it to the tailboom. Pull the housing back and you will have access to the rear driveshaft gear. I just put a small drop of CA on it and put it right back together. Dave
