RE: Palmer 132
Good to hear from you too Jerry. It may be tight to have it flying for Castle but it should be there either way. I'm afraid to ask, has anyone heard from greeter896 Gary? He wasn't doing so well when I picked up his plane. It looks like I may also have a pushback truck in operation for Castle. Too many things to do and never enough time! The rear door and ramp will be functional so who knows what gems are in store? Good news is that the motor standoffs are one piece cnc aluminum. That's one less thing to worry about breaking on this thing. I didn't have much problem with the longer battery leads after 50+ flights so I think we are going with the same set up as Bert 1. Has anyone flown with the ramp and door open in flight? Are there trim changes needed while opening and closing. Do I need a strong servo to hold the ramp or door open or closed or just standard pressures apply. It looks like I'll be tail heavy with all the changes to the doors so I am adding ballast to the nose to offset. I would love to get a set of those wheel brakes for the C-130, more to hold for full power rollout than to actually stop. I envision part of our Airshow routine is to set brake, power to 85% release, full power, ignite RATOs and pull a 500' 45* climb and pushover. It will do it without the rockets but they just add to the ahhh factor. More pics to come as time allows. DC
ORIGINAL: fordtech09 Hey Guys, Has anyone put brakes on their main gear tires. i've seen some set ups for brakes but with the amount of space between the tires and fuselage i haven't had any luck until now. I found a set of vintage rc wheel brakes that DuBro had made but i couldn't find any info on-line about them. i won the bid for them and their in the mail headed my way. they are about an 1 inch in diameter and will fit the DuBro wheels. My wheels are 3 inches in diameter and have enough room to the inside. These are going on my ASM C-130 but before i put them on i going to try to make copies of them and get all the dimensions. Jerry.
Hey Jerry, great find! I have been looking for brakes just like those for another project I've been working on. Send me some photos when you get them. If you decide to duplicate them, let me know. Don BTW my Herc is nearly ready for paint. Gary cut out the ramp and rear door and it's been a lot of work to get the structure stiffened back up.

RE: Seaplane pictures
I finally got the CD of the float fly I attended with my autogyro. It is a Flying Balsa Scout with homemade floats made from 3mm depron. Probably the most fun I've had on floats in a long time, and with an autogyro no less! Enjoy! DC

RE: Seaplane pictures
I attended a float fly last weekend and tried out some homemade depron floats on my Flying Balsa Scout autogyro. Total weight of the floats were just over 4oz. I have to say the gyro flew quite well with the floats on and I was even able to do some touch and goes off the water. I'm waiting for one of the fellow modellers who took a bunch of pictures of the gyro in action to send me a cd with all the photos on it. 'Till then, here's a couple shots of it sitting in my Koi pond. DC

RE: Lanier Mariner 40 MKII >> REPAIR <<
ORIGINAL: Wine Country Flyer Hey Pistol PeteGreat repair job on the Mariner. I'm wondering if you could send me a paper cutout of a rib? My Mariner just had a dumb thumb situation that pretty much totaled one wing. The fuse didn't get much damage. Got it almost ready. But I'll have to build a new wing half. I'll send what ever you think it's worth for your troubles. jgjreade3@sonic.net Thanks-John
Hey John, All the ribs are identical except for maybe the lightening holes and the area where the pontoon blocks go. The four inboard ribs are light ply and the rest balsa. If you still have half the wing, you should be able to trace one out. If you still have a complete half, you'd be better off cutting the broken side off at the centerline. Build the second half and drill into the existing joiner for some 1/4" dowels. Works just fine in lieu of a ply joiner. Make sure you remove the covering from the good side. Water gets in everywhere and the ribs will warp as they dry. I just finished my third rebuild in ten years of flying it. Each time, the plane has flown as well as or even better than before. If there's any help I can offer, fell free to ask. Don

RE: Lanier Mariner 40 MKII >> REPAIR <<
There's something about these Mariners that makes us repair an otherwise normally totaled airplane. I have just completed my third makeover on my plane. They fly so well, very predictable and handle quite nice on the water. I have a Saito .72 Gold Knight four stroke that runs like a champ. I fly at 1/4 throttle or less for normal putting around but can just about 3D it when I get the itch. Many times people think I have a dead stick when I idle down because it is so quiet. Great work Pete! You'll have all the bugs out in no time. Enjoy![:D] Anyone know of a successful UC mod so it can be flown from a runway? I've been toying with something similar to how the Seamaster has it setup.

They are Ultracote Cub yellow, Monokote metallic plum and Monokote white trim. I had the Lusterkote plum paint and cub yellow so the cowl and pontoons matched pretty well.

Michael, I wish I could have been here this weekend but was out of town. Next time, put transfer tape over the all the lettering first, then peel the vinyl and place on the model. Remove the transfer and weed on the model. Or sometimes you can weed once you peel the vinyl from the backing and then place on the model. Keeps the little stuff in place.

Very nice Michael. I ran into the same problem on the Kingfisher. [:@]Solved it with .020" music wire. It followed the curves in the guide tube and poked through the covering. I silver soldered the cable to the wire and once it came through, just cut it off.[;)] DC
ORIGINAL: MRadu Stag stencil continued . . . Photos 1 and 2 This is how the file from my Mac looks on the Windows computer that I use for my vinyl cutter. Photo 3 After the cutter has cut the image I cut the sheet off the roll and the “weeded the vinyl I didn’t need. Photos 4 - 6 Using a transfer tape I cover and rub the vinyl with the back side of my finger nail. Photo 7 Now just peel the backing off. The transfer tape is a low tack tape. Photo 8 Now aline and place onto side of fuselage. This is a one time deal as peeling it of and trying to re-stick it down again will hurt and disfigure the vinyl. Photos 9 - 12 Here I have peeled off the transfer tape and it’s time to paint!
Michael, you haven't read my covering article in our club forum did you? If you pick up a bottle of Rapid Tac available from Tap Plastics you wouldn't have to worry so much about adjusting the decal if needed. Also if you use a product called Press and Seal ,available in just about any grocery store, as your transfer paper, you'll find the decal releases much easier. I meant to mention it at the meeting but got distracted. The Vanessa CG machine works very well for biplanes since you can load the complete structure and locate the CG by adding or moving weights. Let me know if you want to borrow mine or I can send a link to instructions. I hope you get yours ready for Castle. It'll look even better in the air! DC
