RE: SIG in business
I bought some ailerons a few weeks ago for a very old kit I had. When I called something happened that some of the younger people might not pay attention to. BUT SOMEONE ANSWERED THE PHONE. I didn't get voice mail. Ididn't get push 1 or 2 for english or spanish. I got Sig,may I help you. She looked for a bit,and found my ailerons. I got them and they were right. It tool less than 10 minutes to get them ordered. I didn't have to play phone tag. I hope they can make it through these bad times. I think the only "bussiness" that is thriving right now in the USA is our beloved government. If they aren't stopped Sig certainly won't be the only "familiar company"we will be missing. Fred

RE: Top-Flite Contender
Sorry it took me so long to get back,Oldscaleguy. But NO,the recipe only works with Monocote. The glue is different on Ultracoat. But what you can do is cover with your basic color with Ultracoat (Ultracoat shrinks better for me). Get it tight, the trim it with Monocoat. It will stick to Ultracoat just fine. Just squeegie out the solvent with a credit card or something, and next morning it's good. Glad The maiden went well Anthony. It's a pretty airplane[;)] Fred

This recipe works very well for applying Monocoat trim. I don't remember just where I got it. But I have used it many times. Not sure why it came out one long line. It was a paragraph when I uploaded it. Fred

RE: Super monokote - not so super anymore
I really see no reason to complain. Mono coat is crap, and I quit buying it a long time ago. I don't like Tower Hobbies either. They go together in my opinion. Ultra coat makes my covering skills a lot better than they actually are. They have enough colors for me. So I se no reason to buy anything else for now.

RE: Hog Bipe Build - 2009
I have one I started 3 winters ago (this being the 3rd winter). Last winter I had a relative with severe health problems. So I didn't even touch it. Now I am addicted to helicopters, and they are taking priority. Then I have a Hanger 9 Twist to finish up. But I hope to get to it and maiden it this summer. All I really have left are some loose ends and covering. And I am ssllooowww at covering. But the next 2 months will probably be to cold to crash anything. So I shouldn't have many repairs. But I will have to start at the beginning again and double check the "loose ends" that I might have forgotten about. Fred

RE: TT39, yes beating it to death
It's been my experience that a bearing will fail before the ring will. It's very simple to pop the head off while the motor is out. You can look for slop in the piston, Usually the piston will get scored before the ring will fail also, So if compression is the source of your problem slop in the piston with the head off should be fairly obvious. If you still wonder at that point, just take the 4 bolts off the back cover, and you can get the piston out. But at that point you are pretty much comitted to at least put a ring in it. Also the pin that keeps the ring from rotating wears so it would probably need a piston also. Just mark everything before you take it apart. That way there aren't any questions about which way something goes whaen re assembeling it. Fred

RE: Profile Foaming Issue...
Go here http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=heli&Category_Code=Filters And scroll down to fuel magnet and bubbleless klunk. The Heli guys use both. I don't think you are supposed to let the fuel magnet get dry. (It needs to stay submersed in fuel). I'm not sure about the bubbleless clunk. There was a pretty good thread on them at Runryder. I havn't used one. But I'm just getting into helis, and thats where Iread about them.

I can't tell where you need to make holes, but on balsa I have had good luck heating up a rod (broken drill bit). Just reach in with the hot bit on needle nose, and it burns right through balsa. Plywood is a different story. Fred

RE: Hog Bipe Build - 2009
Hey SeamusG I was just looking at your gastank setup and I noticed the pink fuel line. Are you sure thats for glow fuel? The reason I ask is because I used it on an ARF that came with it.(No problems) Soo on some other plane I thought colored fuel line would be good to identify which line is which. So I bought some at my hobbyshop without askingif theirs was good for glow. About 3 weeks later the line blew off my muffler and the motor died. The line from the hobby store wasn't ment for glow. I would hate to hear of a deadstick at the wrong time because your fuel line swelled up and blew off. Just checking Fred

RE: Sig ultimate biplane
Hello Thumbscull. I know about the profile brotherhood, and OMP. I plan on building a Mojo .60 this winter. But I also am looking at this plane because I want something that will go relatively fast(I realize Bipes have too many wings to be fast). But there are times at our field where there are 5 planes in the air, all going in a circle. 3D flying in a gnat race is over my head. But then again I really have no way of knowing how many people will be flying on any given day. And if I have a Mojo .60 in the back of my truck I won't have room for much else, let alone a Biplane. It looks interesting but 2 wings is even more work if I don't like it. I think I have been talked out of it, but I still need a home for my .46 AX. Fred

Sig ultimate biplane
Does anyone know anything about the Sig ultimate biplane? (the profile one). I know the fazer isn't too popular. I have googled and searched and havn't really found anything. I have an OS .46 AX that needs a home. Will this plane hover? The Sig websight says it will. TIA Fred

Whats wrong with a plain old red plastic spinner? I know they aren't good on 4 strokes. I have a plastic spinner on a magnum .52 or .56 don't remember the exact number. Into 2nd season. No signs of a problem yet. Of course , if you wind up needing weight up front a shinney aluminumn spinner might look better.

RE: Hangar 9 Tribute mods
I liked the way mine flew. I don't think there are any mods I would do. It is weak right behind the trailing edge on fuse. I would wait till I broke it and see if I could fix it. I flew mine 2 seasons, and really liked it, I had a .40 on mine. I crashed it twice both due to radio problems. The second time there ain't no repairing. If it were an 80 dollar plane I would get another. But it's now pushing 200 bucks with shipping. Forget that.

RE: Me
Man I'm sorry to hear this. I have been subscribed to this thread for quite a while. I built a Mountain models Switchback a year or two ago. I put a beautiful finish on it with Dope, and silkspan. I lost it on the Maiden because I didn't completely tighten the EZ connector on the elevator. It flew for a couple laps before I noticed something was wrong, then I lost elevator completely. It wen't into the asphalt hard. Again sorry to hear about this.
