RE: waco ymf
Procter Enterprises sells a Peter Barth designed Waco YMF5 in 25% They used to sell Barth's 33% kit as well. AMR has 33% and 40% Both are Lazar cut kits. Very easy to build . They are not as scale as Barth's kits are but very nice kits. If you want to build and have a model that is very very scale do the Barth Kit in 25%. Big but not GIANT as are either of the 33% kits are. I built the bigger Barth kit and it fly so well. Lot of work to build but I like building better than flying anyhow. I think GreatPlanes has a ARF of the YMF5 out now. Not sure of the size but it is smaller than 25% I think. It looks O.K. for and ARF but if you want any ARF then don't expect it to be very scale. None are. They just kinda look like the full scale planes. Remember ARF's are cheap to construct, quick to assemble. There designed for those who don't want to build. Instant gratification and no skills involved to assemble one ( you don't build an ARF) but they do fly O.K. they really do.

Don't get it on any plastic as it will mar the finish if you try to wipe it off and eat into it if you leave it on.
ORIGINAL: Chip_Mull
Hi Everyone. I am building a Greatplanes Piper J-3 Cub with the full size 75 inch wingspan. My problem is whether to cover the Plane in Mono-coat or Coverite Fabric. I believe the Originals were covered in fabric and I am trying to keep it as close to the Original version as possible. What would be better as for up keep, weight and strength. I am putting in a OS 72 4 stroke with the on-board glow starter. Any suggestions and also if I use the fabric does it need to be sealed.
Then why not try http://www.stits.com ? You can't get more realistic. Plus the paints are the very same used for full scale.
I second this.. I use only this system on all my fabric planes. After 19 years of being covered in this stuff my J-3 has not one single wrinkle in it's covering.

If you like wwI type aircraft then hands down the Proctor and GTM kits are the best. But you had better be ready not to cover Proctor's stuff as they are so beautiful in the bare bones state. You'll pay more for either one of these kits but you really get what you pay for.

RE: BUY & SELL NOT WORKING
To all who have adds and think they won't get some kind of extended run time because the site is down well??? quit whining!! They are having a problem with the new server.... When they get it fixed then we will see the site up again that simple. To those who have adds you will still have adds, for those who want to buy, you will be able to do that. RCU is not going to come back up and then tell those who have adds that they have to pay more to run the add again, they will extend the add for the same amount of time you were off-line due to their problems with this server. To those of you who have "offers" on these adds you will still have those as the people who placed the offers can't see if you accepted them or not. In fact they can't place an offer if the site is down. The world will be better soon trust me. Relax .... go build or fly a model????? geezzzz that is a novel idea. I think I will go build on one....I can't l waste my time looking over the market place adds for stuff I can't afford anyhow. So now I can either work on a project I have in front of me or watch dancing with the stars????? Hummmmmmm That is such a bogus show I'm headed to the shop. RE: Waco Decision made! More help needed please.
Hi, I have built the Barth Waco 1/3 scale. In my opine the Barth is much more a builders kit then the Genesis. The Genesis kit is a very very good kit by all means. It is much easier to construct than the Barth. The Barth kit is more scale in it's design than the Genesis. So now I will focus on what I know, the Barth kit. First of all it is a very good kit as far as the materials go. The ailerons are all pre-made for you with the corrugated surfaces built in. The fiberglass cowl is a work of art in it self. Much detail on it that would be super time consuming to try to replicate. All fiberglass parts are of the highest quality as is the rest of the parts. It comes with all the turnbuckles and high quality rigging wire need to finish the kit. The tailwheel bracket is just a great piece of work and a real time saver for the builder. My only sore point of the kit is the landing gear...it is a bit of a job to get right and takes a lot of time to finish up correctly. All the hardware ( screws, bolts nuts are furnished in the kit .) and again are top rate parts. I first flew mine with a RCS 215 radial engine. Not much to say other than it is a very very costly engine to get. But power is off the charts for this plane. Easy to start and runs real good. It is a heavy engine but that does not affect the model at all. And nothing sounds as good as this engine. I am now going to re-place the engine with a 120cc 3W that I have. this should lighten up the plane by about 6 pounds and that just means a better flying model. I sold the RCS due to money needs and I wish I had not but it is what it is. The kit is designed for a 120cc and up engine. Anything in that size and up will fly her with no concerns as to power...2 strokes in this size produce as much and more power than the RCS 215 and are a very good choice if you don't want to dump $3500 for the big radials. Overall the size of the two molds is about the same. I see in your post that you think they are different, well Genesis has a 40% and a 33% and Barth has a 33% and a 25% so make sure you are looking at the correct sizes when comparing If you are going to scale out either of the kits I think the Barth would be a little better choice but both can be done up really good if you take the time. The cost is about the same the last time I looked so it is just a matter of what you like. Peter Barth the designer is a Rc pilot as well as a engineer working on the Eurofighter project. He will answer most any question for you via e-mail. The only thing to remember is he is always traveling between Germany and Spain so he is sometimes a bit late in answering e-mails but he does do it. His english is pretty good much better than my German I'll tell you. Anyhow if you get this kit and have any questions let me know. Now if there is somebody out there that can help you out with a more detailed observation of the Genesis kit you will be on your way. Have fun in your build!!! and remember...nothing looks better than a Waco and either of these kits fly just great.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 Skylane Build
If you want to try covering with solartex and then filling it with a good high build primer. You have to make sure you have it sanded as smooth as your talent will allow. Then fill the grain with a good filler sanding between coats as you go. Yes all you nay sayers out there it does take more time but it won't look like that phony Monocoate gloss that every other model looks like. Have a friend that used this method on a Hostetler Cessna 195 and it is just beautiful. Whatever you do take your time and build as good as you know how to. This is one of the best parts of this hobby..building not a ARF that any 8 year old can do but building a model that you have pride in and no one else can say "I have the same thing" Yes building takes time to do a good job. But you sound like the type of person who takes pride in what they do. Don't be afraid to build this kit...it really is a piece of cake and a good choice for your first build and scale project. You will learn a lot that will carry over to your future builds. Have fun!!! Oh and it is simple to fly!! If you can handle any plane with ailerons then you can fly this with ease

If you don't like the radio in the plane as it comes then just replace it with your choice of systems. I know cost is a concern but it may be the only way to get what your after. Or maybe it is time for you to try a build of a Pitts kit. Not as hard as it might seem and great way to learn about the construction of RC aircraft

RE: Is kitcutter.com a ripoff?
ORIGINAL: reggeee I just went through the kit quickly. It appears to be A: all there and B: a decent job. I say decent cautiously because the paper plans are still glued to the pieces and I can see that some of the parts are sanded right up to the part drawing line and some are sanded into the line. some are sanded pretty square and some are sanded with a slight radius. I guess the only true square would be Laser cutting. Anyway, It's all there (i think. won't know until i start really and do an inventory). So to summarize: I got my kit. It's all there. (for now) and It appears I got what i paid for. My campaign of terror is over. I will however serve in someone else's army.
Hey..that paper on the cut parts is how he cuts the parts. If you just take a bit of time and look at it it will peel right off. He uses a very low tack cement to attach the prints to wood so that he has a guide to what to cut. I think you will find that he does a pretty good job of cutting the kits. I have had two kits cut by him and both are very good jobs. It took me about 90 days per kit to get them. I think that is not too bad a time frame. Cornell went out of his way to include extra wood and parts that I asked him to include at no extra charge. I have heard some of the folks on this thread really bad mouthing this guy and heard their side of the story. However I have not heard the other side's story so I won't make a judgement on this person based on only one side of the story. I'm sure you have heard a story about something and then heard the other side of same. It is funny how some details are left out by both sides. I have been building for about 35 years. I think I have more time building than some of you are old. Hand cut kits will never be "spot" on to the lines. But good enough to build with if you can build at all. Lazer kits are basically put part a to part b and so on. Cutting can be as good or bad as the drawing, the person inputting data to the cutter etc. Some folks who KNOW how to build will have no problems building either of these types of kits. Some will swear that die cutting is no good, that hand cutting is to sloppy, that lazer is the best way to go. It is all dependent on your skills as a builder to make something of the parts. If you take 10 of the same kits from a kit cutter and build them all yourself you will have ten different planes when you get done. No two planes are the same no matter how hard you try. Hope you enjoy the kit you got after the problems you have had. Building your own kit is one part of this hobby that you will enjoy I think. I know I do. Too those of you out there that have had no dealings with this guy should only read what is posted by the people that have and then think of what you have not heard from both sides. The story will always have something included/excluded to embellish it to the persons needs. On either side!! Here is a clue to how I order from Cornell... don't ever send him all the money up front, keep in touch with him at least every three weeks. And then don't send the balance till you have a tracking number from the shipper. Oh and don't change you order after he starts cutting..it will only delay your kit if he has to go backwards to re-do something you want changed. But this applies to most business I do on the net with private parties.
