RE: Total lock out on JR12 2.4Ghz
ORIGINAL: VF84sluggo I've heard good stuff about the Aurora 9, but do I trust new kid on the block?
I'm a former 12x guy and after one too many "issues", I picked up a Aurora 9 a few months ago and haven't had any regrets! I may have lost a few channels, but I do like the features of the 9, the cost of Receivers are reasonable and my range checks are fantastic. Joey

RE: JR/Spekrtum LOCK OUT ISSUES
At my field I would have to say that we have had an unusually high ratio of planes just lock out and/or crash on Spektrum. The strange thing is that most of the crashes seem to happen in the exact same area of our field. I have had two "lock-out" crashes myself flying my 12x and Ar500 receivers. I had never had any problems, and then in just a few days of each other, seconds after takeoff, LOCK-OUT. Then when we walked out to the crash sites, both times, everything works fine! Before both crashes, each plane had a great range check, the led was solid, and battery voltage was not the issue. My problem was with the receivers. After doing some testing, my Ar500's would at random times just unlink. After doing a Google on the AR500 Rx I found no shortage of pilots that have had similar problems. I emailed Horizon about this but heard nothing back from them. I then decided DSM2/JR was not for me and sold the 12x Joey

RE: SOURCE OF AR500 FAILURES
I have lost 2 planes with 2 separate AR500's. One a couple of months ago and one this past weekend. Both were flown on my JR 12x Tx, had great range checks, both had separate Rx battery packs and both were lost on the second flight. With both planes, just after takeoff, the motors quit and I had ZERO control, the receiver just locked out. And of course, everything worked fine after the crash. I contacted Horizon this past weekend about this issue, however I haven't heard a word back from them. 2 planes, 2 separate Rx's, 2 Identical crashes. Im thinking the next time I get a 1200 dollar radio it will be using FASST...... Joey Templeton

RE: Securing Fan Unit to Foam
ORIGINAL: KingCobra Joey, How long do you have to position the fan unit before the glue sets up and hardens? Any problem with the hot glue melting the foam? It seems any time you might have to remove the fan you're going to risk destroying the foam in the fuse. CC
As long as you use "Hot Glue" not warm melt glue you have plenty of time to get the fan where you need it. On my A-4 I just ran a bead down each side of the fan. Originally when I built it, I used the stock fan and motor. I ripped it out because it was the loudest thing in the air, and replaced it with a Kyosho Fan and Mega 1516 motor. Flew that for a while then replaced it again with a wemo mini setup, and always used hot glue. Sometimes you will lose a chunk or two of foam if you try and just rip the fan out, but the hot glue really doesn't penetrate into the foam it just bonds to the surface. Just don't "coat" the fan with the stuff. I always just put two small dabs on the bottom and run a bead down each side of the fan where I can get to it with my xacto blade. Good luck! Joey

I used hot glue on my GWS A4, and other foamy edf's of mine. It really only takes a few dabs of it and its not to hard to remove the fan if you have to. Joey

RE: Foamy Newbee needs servo help
For your squall, 9gs such as the Hitec HS 55, are fine. You may also want to look at the Hextronic 900's from hobbycity.com . They are inexpensive, about 3 bucks a servo but from most reports, they are stronger and perform just as well if not better than the Hs 55.

RE: High pitched noise????
The noise your are hearing is probably comming from the DSV130 servo on the rudder. It's a digital servo and they all make a high pitch sound. There is always a bit of load on that servo just because the pushrod for the nose wheel kinda sags on the horn. It may even make that noise with the horn removed. I wouldn't worry just make sure everything is working smoothly and perform a good preflight range test. My T-28 has the DSV servos on both rudder and elevator and can be really be noisey, but 1000+ flights later all is well. Good luck, Joey

RE: ParkZone T-28 Mods and upgrades.
No prob Larry, It's the Monster 10 by Exceed-Rc Hobbypartz.com sells them for about $18 bucks. Its a 35-42 1100kv. Here is a link to there page: http://www.hobbypartz.com/monsterpower-101100kvbrushless-motor.html. The ESC on this plane has the EC-3 plug and all my batteries and Watt meter have deans, so I can't give actual amp draw and Watts, but I did do some rigging with some alligator clips and ran the motor up....Way more power than the stock motor. The problem that I ran into was the prop shat that comes with the Monster 10. It didn't allow for enough prop clearance with the cowl. I tried to use the stock prop adapter, however the motor shaft on the Monster 10 is slightly larger, and I don't have a way to drill out the stock prop adapter accurately so George ordered the Eflight EFLM1942 4mm adapter and collet. Problem solved. A few of the guys at my field are using some of the other Monster motors and from what I have seen they put out some respectable power for the price. The bad thing is I can't give a flight report for another 5 weeks or so. Thats when my bud George, the owner of the plane, gets home.

RE: ParkZone T-28 Mods and upgrades.
To finish things off, I tie some spectra fishing ling to the tailhook and run it through the string guide into the fuse. To counter some of tha added weight to the tail, I hot glue the servo as far forward as I can. A brass threaded solder connector is flattend and drilled to tie the string to. Finally, the string length is adjusted and hooked up to the servo!

RE: ParkZone T-28 Mods and upgrades.
Now linking it up... The tail hooked will be simply tied to a string, run through the fuse to a HS-55 Servo. I make a string guide out of a plastic antenna tube, heated with a lighter and bent into a 90deg. Then a hole is made about an 1" behind the pivot point of the tailhook, and the string guide is inserted all the way flush into the fuse, with the bend pointed forward. Then glued with some thin CA.
ORIGINAL: lbarnes Interesting approach to the flaps linkage. When I saw the first photo I was wondering how the heck you were going to get it to work with one servo. After the third picture it was answered. All the years I have been building I have never thought of doing that for flaps. If I had thought of it I would have saved the cost of the second servo.[:)] Keep them coming.... After some research if found that the T-28 was used as a fighter aircraft at the end of the Vietnam war and by other countries. To add some more to it look at the pic on this thread link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9191385 Good luck.. Larry
Yes it does save a few bucks without having to add a second servo, and doesn't put too much added load on the BEC. I wish I could take the credit for the flap mod. RE: ParkZone T-28 Mods and upgrades.
Moving on to the Tailhook... I use a carbon rod, some brass tube, a 440 clevis, and some scrap 5/32 plywood.. The brass is flattend on one end, and rolled into a hook shape and both the brass and clevis are glued into the rod with some 5min epoxy. I cut a slot in the rear of the fuse and glue the plywood mount in with 5min as well. The hook and mount will get some paint a little later on, but its lookin sweet.

RE: ParkZone T-28 Mods and upgrades.
On to the tail strobe.. Since the fuse is hollow, this is easy work, I just use my screwdriver to make a hole at the base of the tail. Then from the bottom of the fuse, I use my long nose pliers and push the led up and out of the hole at the base of the tail. Next I slice a 1/8 slot, along the leading edge of the vertical stab. Starting at the top of the stab, I insert the led and tuck the lead into the cut slot working my way to the base of the tail. I finish things up with a bead of CA, and the lights are in. She's gonna look sweet at night.
