RE: Flying Thingz????
Sorry Kevin. I was responding to Charlie111. I think there is some type of confusion on what the problem is.

RE: Flying Thingz????
There must be someone this could be reported to so this web site could be shut down. It would seem there should be some form of fraud being committed here.

RE: Flying Thingz????
I don't understand why a company would maintain a web site and not respond to inquiries if they are a legitimate business. I have made several attempts to contact them over the last couple of years. There use to be a phone number on their old web site and I would get a recording saying someone would be back in touch with me but that never happened. Then they redid their web site (2011) which looks very nice but there isn't a phone number or an address to contact them. When you e-mail them you get an "auto reply" saying they will be in touch. I have never heard back from them even after 4 - 5 attempts to contact them. They do have all the ordering information on their web site but buyer beware!! I would not send them any money. If anyone out there has a Flying Dog House they would like to part with please contact me. Our club is in need of one for our annual air show.

Flying Dog House from Flying Thingz
I have been trying to get a hold of someone from Flying Thingz to order a dog house for our club's annual air show but can't get anyone to respond to my e-mails. They have a newly designed website http://flyingthingz.com/ and an automated reply saying someone will get back in touch with me but I never hear back from anyone. I've serached their website but can not find a phone number. Does anyone kinow if they are still in business?

RE: Plane in tree
My son put had an Astro Hog in the top of an elm tree about 50 feet up. I took a lamp extension pole used to change out light bulbs from the ground and duct taped plastic central vacuum PVC pipe on the end of it until it was long enough. It worked out OK as long as you were directly under the plane. It isn't stiff enought to work at an angle but directly underneath the plane worked great. I was able to push up on the bottom of the fuse and caught it as before it hit the ground. Oh yes, my son now flys for the airlines so I hope he learned something from the experience.

RE: Plane in tree
You might be surprised how well things will weather the storm. I always wrap my receives in plastic wrap in the event a gas tank ruptures (or if it would happened to be exposed to moisture). I agree with the suggestion of contacting a tree service. It would be worth the cost. Start out by telling them you don't want to pay more to get the plane down then it's worth. They may find some humor in your story and cut you a deal. Offer to give him a free lesson. If they don't want to do it ask them for someone you might he able to contact.

RE: Plane in tree
In Iowa we just wait 3 or 4 days days and either the wind blows the plane out of the tree or it blows the tree over. Been there and done that. It seems they will always blow down eventually. Good luck

RE: First Warbird
You might want to look at the CMP Corsair. I have had two of them and they fly great with a YS140. Fast and stable. You do have to reinforce the stab and gull portion of the wing with carbon fiber strips but it's worth the trouble. Clocked at 130 MPH plus, unlimited vertical climb plus it looks great in the air. Lands slow with full flaps. It will nose over if your not on the elevator when you drain off your speed on landing. Great plane at a great price.

RE: When should you stop using battery packs with a standard connector?
For the record, HS 7955 servos draw 3,400 ma @ 4.8 volt stalled (3.4 amps) and 4,200 ma @ 6 volt stalled (4.2 amps.)

RE: old astro hog question
I don't believe Sig's Astro Hog ever had a wing held on with rubberbands. I have had 3 Sig Astro Hog's with doped finishes.Nothing flies like a Hog. They are alot of fun. I built the last one with half of the diehedial and a larger rudder. It will hold continuous knifedge powered with a YS91. FUN airplane. Enjoy!!

RE: which four stroke would you go for?
I've have Saitos, OS's and several YS's. Nothing comes close to the performance and the sweet sound of a YS with a straight pipe on a warbird.

RE: CMP 160 AT6 Finally FLIES
Amen on the Sierra retracts. I waited 7 months trying to get a set modified for a CMP Corsair only to find out I had to settle for a standard set and modify the wing. I just couldn't get any information out of Darrell. Great quality but I have pretty mich missed out on an entire flying season because of the long wait. As far as the CMP 160, I too have a set of Robarts from a Midwest AT6. What type of modifications did you have to do? What's the quality like? Covering, weight etc. How does it land compared to the Midwest AT6. Any bad tip stall characteristics on landing? I built a Midwest Kit several years ago and didn't build in the washout as instructed. ( I didn't notice the wing jig until I was done). I finished it with 1/2 oz glass and painted it like the box. It was a beautiful plane flew great with a YS 120 AC but didn't land very well due to the lack of washout. It would tip stall to the left if you bounced it and eventually it bit me. I would love to have another but don't want to spend the time to build another. I'm hoping the CMP 160 might be the answer. Your thoughts?? Rich[8|]

RE: CMP Kits – Problems and Solutions
I have a CMP Corsair that I'm building but have not had much luck in finding any input from others on the CG, flight characteristcs, suggested mods etc. Has anyone had any experience with the CMP model(70" plus size)? I waited a life time for the Sierra retracts for it and I finally received them after nearly 7 months of waiting. I would ap preciate any information anyone might have. Thanks

RE: Retracts for CMP AT6
Yes it is. I did some further checking with Robart and the 620s will not fit. They suggested the 605 series but I have my doubts on those as well. I'm told by Alex at AKM that the retracts that fit are from Eurokit http://www.eurokit.us but their web-site isn't user friendly when it comes to selecting the proper gear. I placed a call to Eruo and was told that Roger would have to get back to me and that I should e-mail my request. I'm waiting on a reply. Nitroplanes told me there wasn't any retracts available that fixed gear is all they offer. This contradicts their own pictures on their web site. Boy, an AT 6 without retracts would be like selling a four door sports car, not very exciting to drive or fly. The kit won't sell unless you can drop retracts into the wing without modifying.

I have the same gear and have the same question. It looks like a nice kit and it would be nice not to have to build another Midwest from a kit. I hope thhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemid=177935ey do!

When the wing section has failed is it a total failure or are you able to land the plane?

RE: CMP / GSP Corsair 120
I do have a new kit but it will be hard to determine if there have been any changes without having seen one of the earlier kits. According to AK Models they corrected the wing problem from a couple of years ago. I hate to build the kit and end up ruining an engine, RX servos etc. if the problem still exists.

RE: CMP / GSP Corsair 120
Do you think the splitting was caused by the stress of the landing gear put on the wing or was it due to the wing loading stress flying? I'm disappointed to hear this. It looks like a nice kit.

RE: CMP / GSP Corsair 120
It was my understanding they had problems with wing failures a couple of years ago on the CMP and Giant Scale Planes Corsairs. I wae hoping that this has been corrected but I haven't seen any recent posts. I agree the hinges and the other hardware are not the best. The rest of the plane looks nice. We would like to put a YS 140 in it if it will handle it. Does anyone have any experience first hand?

RE: Recovering an ARF
I agree about the trim iron. I actually have two trim irons so I don't have to let the iron cool down to change shoes. I have one with the flat shoe and one with the rounded shoe. Lots of times you can pick these up at swap meets for $4 or $5 bucks. Good investment for a nice finish. There is no substiute for having the right tool.

Moving to a low wing airplane...
Personally I think this is a pretty big jump for a second plane. Warbirds do not fly like other low wing planes. The best intro-low wing plane I have ever flown is a Sig Astro Hog. Hard to build but what a sweetheart to fly. Get someone experienced to test fly and help you learn. Things happen a lot faster when you start to advance to the next level. Good luck!

Have to start out with a trainer?
I would strongly suggest you purchase a trainer. There is a lot more to learning to fly than just flying in a circle. I would suggest a Sig LT40 as a possible trainer. Equip it with an OS 46FX and you will have a plane that will satisify your needs well after you solo. The OS46FX will be an engine you can you use in your next airplane. I have instructed several students with this plane and they all loved it. Give it a try.
