RE: RCU member and jet modeler in a serious accident
I rode a few years back and don't have one now...but it's tempting to look at new ones. My brother still rides but I'm trying to get him hooked on jets and kero burning engines so he will give it up for the finer things in life, lol. Glad to hear he is doing better. Dan

RE: Skymaster F18F c of g position
Hope you don't mind me bringing this back from a bit from in the past, but mine was shelved for a long time due to work and other factors.. I also had to replace the original right stab as the shaft was sloppy in the stab. I'll peel back the bottom and examine it, and rebuild it as a possible spare if I ever need it. I definitely think there is a serious lack of hornet threads around here lately. :-) I have it set up with every servo linkage at the closest holes on the arms and atv's all set at 100%, and at high rates (100%) I am getting the recommended throws, so I'm pretty happy with that. Just now setting up my cg and after reviewing a lot of posts, I set it up for 130mm. I originally had set it up for twin batts, via regulators to a Smart Fly Expander board. Well, i ditched the regulators and nimh packs in favor of direct hook up with twin large capacity LiFe packs. To balance as it is here in the pic, I only needed 16.6 oz of battery on the nose. Just need a tad more to level her out. No dead weight required. The scale cockpit and pilot helped with that...nice! Tomorrow I'm doing run ups and taxi tests to check the brakes and nose/gyro steering, etc. Hopefully to maiden later this spring/summer.

RE: F-101 Voodoo
Yes, that is a nice Voodoo Mauro has built. One of JG's kits that went across the "pond". Wayne - My kit is on hold because I met up with Jean Guy earlier this summer when I was in Quebec City, and he mentioned that he has a new set of wings that make this a better flying jet... more of a sport wing with a little more wing area, so I have halted any further work on my kit until I get these in hand and catch up to where I was with the previous set. I have sent him an email asking about any leftover kits laying around, as a buddy wants to build one as well. So I don't know if he will make any more... maybe if there is enough interest? His latest project is a very large Panther... flies great and I had a chance to see it at the Victoriaville airport. Dan

RE: F-101 Voodoo
You can build it either way, and is shown on JG's cd. Is this new or from an older kit? He also has a new sport wing for it that makes it a little easier to fly. I'm still working on mine, bit by bit. I first thought EDF, but not now. Once I get to where the tail is done, I'll get Tam to make a pipe for it. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1156778 Dan

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Two flights today... why only two? Asphalt runway, not a hard landing on the second but both mains pulled out of the wing. Why? Barely a blob of glue on the plates. Such crap. They may have changed the plates to crappy plywood, but no glue is pathetic. I'll fix it with real aircraft ply or hardwood, and I can guarantee that a proper amount of hysol will be used. On a positive note, it's a fun jet to fly. My Rabbit is the perfect combo... Dan

Leaf Blowers - brands?
Looking for feedback on what type of leaf blowers guys are using as an additional aid in cooling down the turbines. I don't want to break the bank paying for a top end lithium battery powered blower, so what is out there and good value for the money? Dan

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
You know, i'm am so tired of hearing people talk about this and comparing the price of this jet with others. And saying its ok that the formers are loose. It its not. It is advertised as a jet arf, not a jet 'kit'. If you are going to do something, then do it right our not at all. I mean how hard is it to have a fuse made and glue the damn formers in right? Now at V3 and its still no better. I have no problem gluing in formers, but some people do. Just because the jet is priced at a bargain doesn't give Modelbau the right to sell bargain quality. Jeez, I need a break from RCU.....

RE: Rabbit problems
ORIGINAL: essyou35 LIttlepiton, is 5 good or bad? LOL. Eric is trying to help me but I think a phone call would go a long way... Online support only sucks! The ony thing that will make me happy is if you take this turbine back and either refund my money or give me a new Rabbit. Is that a possibility? I am flying a 29 lb 1/8 scale jet with this and a flameout will ruin my day!
Good luck trying to get a call from Eric. The only one that bothered to pick up the phone when I had issues was Kerry...thanks Kerry!!!! As for the return/exchange, I know it feels like that is your only option, but I had some teething problems with mine as well. I had a few reliable starts then nothing. Sent it in to Kerry and he made some adjustments and then I was finally getting good starts. Then, after installing and heading to the field, again it would not start. Starter motor was crap. (the old one will go back when I get back home Eric) one thing I have noticed with mine is that my screen flickers like crazy when using 3 cell LiFe pack, and the battery always has an issue charging... The Duralight pack must have a bad cell as my charge keeps reporting over voltage...I just think the pack is apiece of crap. I have better results on a2 cell LiPo and my screen doesn't flicker and the rpm readings at now more stable than it ever was. The engine itself is awesome...you just need to get past the crappy external problems. Q- if you hook it up as the manual calls for on the bench, with no servos in the receiver, how does it run? Try to separate the power and rpm and temp extensions and see if that helps... Go back to a good 2 cell LiPo (over 3000 mah) and see how it runs. Dan
ORIGINAL: BluFox PS: We simply do not have ''noise'' issues or static issues with our system when installed in accordance with the manual. [/quote Sorry Eric. I don't agree with you. My HDT does the same thing, and the LCD readout flickers constantly across the whole screen. And this is it just sitting on the bench test with no servos attached. Seeing RPMs sitting at 64k prior to a start seems odd to me, but hey, if you say it's normal, then so be it. For me, it should read "0".

[:D] But of course! [:D] I mean, look at it... it's about the same size as the Yellow single, so why not? While I do like 'E' planes and jets, sometimes I just want to fuel and fly, fuel and fly, and not have to deal with the charging of large batts (still pricey$$) or wait times. What I would do to keep it simple, would be to modify the tail to just use (heaven forbid) a single straight pipe. Dan

RE: Best way to instal CAT (Air Trap)?
I got my first one from Todd and I must say that I am liking it very much. It was a chore to slip the 6mm line over the barbs, but they do go on. Now I can see why Ali doesn't safety tie these off - there is no way in h*ll that these are slipping off! The wooden tray is very well made from good ply and makes it a snap to anchor into place. Pricing is very competitive. I am done with the 'other' versions. Dan

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Guys - make sure you pressure test your fuel tank. I fitted up my tank and pressureized it with some air and submersed it in the good ol kitchen sink. Bubbles!! I had about 5 spots that were shedding bubbles, so don't take a chance and asssume that it is good to go. Test it before you have a leaking mess in the jet. 1 oz cloth, doubled up and glued with some West System epoxy worked perfectly... just make sure you scuff the surface first. Dan One thing that did annoy me a little was after all the gripes about the fuse formers and their crappy glue in the V1 and V2, they are no better in the V3. Be prepared to knock them loose and reglue with some Hysol. The former just forward of the nose retract former wasn't even glued in mine, so I am glad I had some long Hysol mixing nozzles to hand.

RE: manual fuel shut off before or after pump?
I am curious about the pump running and burst theory. Does anyone know what the pressure rating of the Festo line is rated at? If you use a different manufacturer, your mileage may vary but Festo lists some of their tubes are rated at a minimum of 7 bar, and that is about 100 PSI, so the next question is, how much pressure can a runaway pump make? I'd like to see that bench tested to see how different 4mm manufacturers tubing stands up to pump pressure. You also have to consider how any the tube is secured on barbs, saftey wire, etc. If the pump can't make the burst pressure, then no worries, put it after the pump. All of mine are, because I use Festo ball valves. No Festo of any kind on the suction side for me. Great discussion. Dan

RE: Rabbit KS Igniter voltage..
Thanks Juan. My Rabbit is heading to Kerry to have a look it. I think I have a couple issues, and one is a pump that is maybe too tight and needs a breakin, so that the ECU doesn't have to work so hard to pump fuel. The other looks like the setting for burner fuel, and it is just low enough that it is 50/50 on whether it will jump to Switchover mode. Kerry may need to unlock it and turn up the flow rate a little, as there is just not enough to keep the burner lit. Love the Rabbit and can't wait to have it back. Dan

Rabbit KS Igniter voltage..
Got a new Rabbit KS that is giving me some startup grief and the not so wanted "pump limit reached" error message when I finally get a start. Working with Eric to sort it out, but in the meantime, what is the typical igniter voltage set at? Using a 3 cell LiFe pack, and have switched it over to 2 cell LiPo during my fault finding sessions (no change) and I see the igniter voltage at 5.4v. Is this typical? Dan
