ORIGINAL: -Inverted-
ORIGINAL: MadDogRC thanks guys. saleens7, PLEASE READ the WHOLE post, hehe. read the last sentence.... ttoks, it aint a 4 stroke. its a 2 stroke and i confirmed that.
Actually not once did you state the words 2 stroke, motor, or engine in your original post.....
trust me, the performance is amazing. i mean seriously, snapped the chain in half at HALF THROTTLE! thats sum serious power :-) hehe.
I would bet the chain failure on user error and set up before guarenteeing that kind of performance from that engine. Seriously a 450cc quad isn't out snapping chains and they are much more powerful then the motor your using. I compliment you on the progress but the name is a bit off. With no suspension and such low ground clearence it won't make much of a "dune racer". More of a go kart in my opinion.
He wasn't talking about the engine when he said to read the last sentance. saleens7 asked if he was in the third pic, but the last sentance of the first post already said he wasn't in any of the pics, he took them.

Ha! I'm gonna be a junior, seems like most of you are fresh or sophs. High school goes faster the later you are. I start late august, but my school has a huge four day retreat at a lake so everyone can get to know everyone else. I don't know ANY of the incoming freshmen. By the way, more girls just increases the drama![;)][8|]

OK........I'm REALLY STUPID!!!!!! I just got done emptying my one gallon jug of O'Donnell Fuel. I ran the whole thing through my Savage X, then I realized, I've never cleaned the air filter!!! I have only run about 3-4 tanks on dirt, but still. I cleaned it and ran it today. I haven't seen it do wheelies in months!! I flipped it and wasn't even on Full Throttle (and I have a wheelie bar). Either my Savage X or my new truck.......well it's not really new. My dad has had it for about 9 years, but since I got my license, it became mine. 1995 GMC Yukon. 4 door, 2 wheel drive, and it swallows gas in a 2 mile radius!!!!![:D] oh well, I guess that's what a 5.7 liter engine does best![;)]

They are HPI's new fiberglass brakes. From what I've heard, they bite as good as new stainless steel dual disks, but don't wear out. [:D]

RE: Knockoff Brand List - To Help Stop Newbies Falling in The Trap Of Poor Quality
Most people say that Smartech is crap. However, I have one. There has been one bad experience with getting a part. (It took 7 months). I would say that it probably holds up as well as any car I have (Savage x and Rustler). I do drive the Smartech differently, mostly on-road, but it is a nice vehicle for me. It wasn't too nice to start off with. I don't know how their stock engines are as mine had a problem on the third or fourth tank due to a faulty servo. The servo held Full Throttle and bent the piston rod, so it wasn't the engine's failure, but the servo's. The engine ran fine until then. I even put a tank of 30% through it and it was a screamer! I would recommend to replace BOTH servos to anyone who gets one of these. I also don't know how Smartech's transmissions are because mine is a single-speed. I would never say to get a Smartech over an HPI or some other main brrand because of parts availability and quality of servos. For me though, my Smartech was aperfect first nitro because it was cheap so if i had an accident (I did) it wasn't too expensive to fix or replace. So I guess that Smartech's are o.k. RC's if you upgrade a little bit. Parts availability can ba a pain sometimes, other times, you get your parts within a week so it just depends. You can also take a more mainstream brand's part and try to retro-fit it.

RE: .....is this the end for me?
It could be the idle rpm screw. Or..... My nitro buggy has a similar problem. It loses rpms no matter what I do, even if I get on the gas, the rpms go down until it dies. I have a leak in my exhaust system. Maybe you have one, check your fuel lines, engine, and exhaust. It would be a shame to spend so much money and lose it over a $5 fix so just stick with it and keep trying.

RE: rc car or buggy?
540 refers to the size of the motor. It is probably most popular for 1/10th scale. Turns refers to the motors speed. The lower number of turns it is, the faster it is. ESCs can handle down to a certains number of turns. If you want to get complicated, you could also look into gearing to get the kind of speed you want. Just remember, a faster motor will make your run times shorter.

RE: Engine stops when I use the brakes.
There are tree screws, two look alike. The one coming UP is the rich/lean screw for high speed. The one going out to the side is the idle mixture screw, but there is a third one that is smaller and black. I think it is by the bottom of the high-speed needle. Your manual will tell you which way to turn it.

RE: Engine stops when I use the brakes.
Take the air filter off and look at the little opening. Turn the electronics on but DON'T start the engine. Then apply full brakes on your controls. If the opening closes or is less than it should be (check the manual for the opening's size) then adjust the Idle RPM Screw (Check your manual for its location). It is either that or just running too rich or lean, so just check your carb settings.
