RE: Getting a new guitar, help me pick.
I suggested the one I did based on the ones he linked to. It shares the same construction and body woods. If, however, a bolt on is being considered, then I STRONLY agree with a Highway 1 strat. US made, in the style of the original strats. It's a nitro finish, which means it won't have that high gloass, dipped in plastic look of other strats. Some people like that, some people don't. Really you have to hold one to decide. My best advice is to go to Guitar Center, hold every guitar you like, then check the model and price. Then find the model of that guitar series that is in your price range. Gibson offers Les Pauls from $100 (Epiphone Les Paul Special II) to $6000 (Gibson Jimmy Page model) so if you find you do love a Les Paul, they'll have one to fit whatever your budget is. Do try the Ibanez I showed you though. It's a great guitar, on par with any Schecter, and quite impressive compared to a PRS or Gibson, at any price.

I've got a Heritage dealer near me and I've played them quite a few times. They look great, but they just don't DO it for me.

RE: Getting a new guitar, help me pick.
Sure you can go wrong with Gibson. Gibson's QC has gone to crap, and their prices have gone to the moon. You want a great 2 humbucker, set neck mahogany body maple topped guitar for around $500? Look no further....... [image]http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/models/SZ520QMGAB.jpg[/image] Yes it is Korean made, but that means a lot more than it used to. I have one and it's a great axe. Don't be so hung up on PRS and Gibson, both are way overpriced for what you get. Hell, even a Carvin CT is a better bargain.

Not my style Sleepy. I'm either IN, or OUT of a hobby. I don't keep it around to tinker on it. If I kept anything around, I'd eventually want more and more. So, it's all gotta go ;)

RE: so long fellas, it's been fun..
A major chunk of it is already gone.. I've been having a big sell off on that OTHER board everyone ran off to at one point, and it's been going well.. So well in fact, I couldn't race at this point if I wanted to, but that isn't really a problem for me. The local scene has gone to crap, and I simply want no part of dealing with an inept track owner. Racing is great, organized bashing that you have to pay to be part of is pointless. And, with an infant, I can't travel 150 miles each way to the other tracks around here that actually know how to run a race program. So no fellas, there is no tomorrow, this is indeed the end for myself and RC.

so long fellas, it's been fun..
Hey guys, as some of you have noticed (and written me asking about, thanks I appreciate the concern), I've not been around much lately. That's because I'm getting out of RC for good. The local racing scene has become something I don't want to be part of, so I've been selling off my equipment to fund other, more interesting and personally fullfilling hobbies. So, with that in mind, I'd like to wish everyone well, even those of you that I've argued with in the past, and say goodbye. No malice, no parting shots at anyone, just a simple goodbye from a guy that's over the RC thing. l8r boys =)

My favorite is whatever there is a class to race. I drive RC cars for the thrill of racing. The car/truck/whatever is pretty meaningless to me. darth, what kind of useless crap? An ST is just a buggy with bigger dimensions. It has no extra parts.

RE: soldering
Guns are bad, they get too hot and they're hard to hold. Get a simple Weller 40w pencil iron with a chisel tip. You'll never need more unless you get into building a lot of battery packs. Like this: [image]http://www.rainbowkits.com/tools/WellerIron.jpg[/image] I use one like that, but you can get just the iron alone for like $15. The base is good in that it provides a stable, secure place to put it, but I never adjust the heat. I keep it cranked when I'm using it. That one cost me $50 at Sears, but the iron alone would be all you really need.

RE: aluminim chassis for my losi
No one makes them for the simple fact that aluminum is bad for electrics. Not only is it heavy, but it has a tremendous potential for shorting the batteries. Some electrics have had al, but the vast majority don't because of these problems.

I've ran both, here's my take on them.. Neo/Sphere - More top end, not as much torque. I've ran it overgeared, undergeared and balls to the wall, never had a heat problem. GTB - Less top end, more torque, glitched like crazy.

RE: SS5800 prob, need advice
#1 - EWW! #2 - Go get some motor cleaner and blast it clean. As long as the system wasn't turned on when the umm, incident, occured, it should be ok electrically. The problem now is corosion and crud. The motor cleaner should clean all that off. It should be fine. #3 - On a related note... When I was in highschool, I had a really nice MIDI keyboard, and a very evil cat that liked to mark his turf.. One day the cat decided to take a whiz on my keyboard. By the time I found out what had happened, it had dried. So, I got some contact cleaner (same thing as motor cleaner, basically) and hosed down the circuit board. Worked fine after I got it cleaned. Just smelled like crap which made me get rid of it. The cat mysteriously vanished a few months later too ;)

RE: Pede + Neo = LOL!
Honestly, when you compare a Novak motor to a Reedy motor, the numbers don't seem to translate. The Novak 5.5 should bury my Reedy 3 star, but when I compared them head to head, the Reedy was obviously superior. So don't read too much into the numbers. You have my personal promise that you will not be disappointed with the Sphere/Neo or the GTB 5.5/6.5.. They're all great systems. I chose LRP because I detest Novak for something that occured a couple years ago. They eventually made it right for me, but by then I was pretty well anti-orange.

Takes 2 motors and you have no where to mount a second pack or ESC.. Not an option for a BL with 2 motors on it yet, so not something I'd ever want to mess with. I MIGHT eventually make it an alumapede, but I dunno when.

6 cells is plenty. 7 would be totally uncontrollable. Not that 6 ARE controllable, but 7 would be terrible... I've ran 7c in my Losi before and it works quite well.

The 3 star is the original, 9t motor. There is a 4 star out now that's a 7t (I think).. That thing would be insane. I want a 19t version of this motor. Then I'll be cruising.. RS4, yes, very difficult. In fact, if you'll listen to the video, you can hear here I had to get out of the throttle when I'm coming back towards the camera. It was heading towards a big puddle with no body on.. Pucker moment right there ;) It is a 2wd, rwd truck. Not the most stable truck in the first place, then when you put a Neo in it, it's ugly.

RE: Pede + Neo = LOL!
I feel like I'm a little overgeared right now. Not from a motor heat standpoint, but from a controllability one. It's simply to fast to be a "Pede". Pedes aren't meant to go so fast. Theyre for slower, more deliberate driving. I took it out a few minutes ago to crawl around on some tree roots in my yard and it was way too wheel-spinny. I'm thinking I'll drop it to a 14 or 13 for my next pack. Won't balloon the tires as well though. Oh and sorry, it's not an 87t spur.. It's an 84t. I forgot I killed my 87t at the last race.

RE: Just finished building my T4!
But, the long term cost is much less. Only takes 21 weeks of buying fuel @ $30 a gallon to burn through what you've spent on electric. Plus, if you have the chance to embarass some dumbass nitro guy with your electric "toy", it's all worth it. I'd tell you the rest of the costs you'll incur over the next year, but you might give up and run for the hills ;)

Same as they were before my last Neo blew up. I'd say 10+ easily. It's so cold here right now (I'm sure you saw the snow in the video), it's TOO long for my tastes.. When I get the next pack charged, I'll try to get just the ballooning for you. It's already thrown the glue on one of them though hehehe

RE: Pede + Neo = LOL!
They were ballooning, but the video sucks and you can't see it. The only mods on the thing are the RPM bearing carriers, bearings and an aluminum idler gear. Otherwise, it's bone stock. I had planned to lower it and make it into a racer, but my LHS owner is an idiot and refuses have a points series this year (for the second year running).. So, I just drive it in the yard and street. I MIGHT turn it into an oval truck and run it against nitro MTs at a big oval near here some this summer. I think this thing would be insane on some low-profile silicone tires and with an air dam. This Pede holds the honor of being the first, and only, electric vehicle to clear the double at the offroad track I used to race at. (same idiot LHS owner owns it too, so I don't race there anymore either)

Pede + Neo = LOL!
Hey guys, I finally gave in and installed my new Neo.. I put it in the Pede and geared it 16/87, and this is the result.. The first scene in the video is the Pede going in reverse, trying to do a flip around turn.. Didn't work, lol Second scene is just nailing the throttle.. Didn't work either, lol The third scene is the Pede with the body off, cuz all that flipping and rolling ejected my body pins. Dang thing wouldn't stay on. This is as close to a speed run as I got recorded before I broke the battery pack. (bar just popped off from all the jumping I was doing with it earlier.. Anyone that says a Pede can't be fast is an idiot. The video is uploading right now, should have it posted in a few minutes.. Go get some popcorn and a coke while you wait.

That's why I suggest Powerpoles. Deans are my faves, and what I use for my packs. But they won't do 3 wires. Powerpoles will. Just hardwire the thing. I installed my new Neo 15 minutes ago and it took all of a minute.
