RE: STAR WARS Tie-Fighter Interceptor Build?
Great work! Very cool stuff. There is a guy on RCGroups that did alot of the Star Wars and Star Trek ships. Lots of good info and plans to boot in his build threads. Here is his blog with links to the build threads. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=78981 Here is his Tie Interceptor build thread with a video of it flying. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=871840

RE: OPTIC 6 Two Alerion Servo's - set up
ORIGINAL: eclozon I am using an optic 6 with a Hitec micro 05s reciever. I am putting in a foamie with two alerion servo's. The only way I can get the second (channel 6) servo to operate is by using the flaperion option. Is this the best way to set it up or should I just use a "Y" adapter. thanks Ed
I ran into the same problem. The 05s has CH 1-4 , CH6 as its 5 channels. Problem is the Optic 6 uses CH1 and CH6 for its Flaperon function. The "best way" (IMHO) is to snag a 6ch Rx and use CH1, CH5 and the ADIF function on the Optic 6 to control the 2 aileron servos. This is the setup I always use for 2 aileron servos on their own channels as I use an Optic 6 Tx too. :) If it is not that important/critical to have each aileron servo on its own channel (ex. a foamie parkflyer or foamie warbird that you are just going to fly around and do std aerobatics/Non 3D moves) and you do not want to buy a 6ch Rx, then just use the "Y" connector. Maybe someone else will chime in with another option but I could not get what you are trying to do to work with my Optic 6 Tx and a Micro 05s Rx in any other way than what you posted. Hope this helps!

RE: Need Help Identifying Plane.
Probably wasn't the best worded reply I've ever posted. If I would have taken a step back and thought about it, the retractable landing gear eliminated alot of the choices (biplane, pattern plane and the way it was sitting eliminated it as being a jet.) So that pretty much put it in the WWII class of planes. My apologies for my previous reply. Take Care [8D]

RE: Need Help Identifying Plane.
How in the world do you expect anyone to be able to answer that question with a picture that only shows closeup shot of a pair of retractable landing gear and a partial shot of a muffler? Geez, let's see, could be and Edge 540, Cap 232, Extra 300, a low wing warbird (P51, P38, any Axis plane FW-190), could even be a BiPlane or WWI era plane, maybe a Hi wing plane. It's a gasser that has retractable landing gear and it probably is not a jet by the way it is sitting. I'd say it's most likely a low wing plane (pattern, warbird, etc...) but that's probably the best 'answer' you are going to get unless someone built that exact plane and has built it the exact same way. Your question and picture is the equivalent to me asking you what word am I thinking of but I can't tell you how many letters it contains, but it does contain the letter 'a'). [8|]

RE: parkzone trojan paint job went to s*@%
Krylon H2O is a latex spray paint. That means is is waterbased and yes it is foam safe. That being said it can be a pain to work with. You need to do multiple light coats, you can not try to cover in one coat. Also, being a latex paint, the nozzle tends to clog very easily. The smoother the surface, the better this paint looks. Personally, I don't care for it. You should always test out any paint on a test piece of foam if at all possible prior to diving in. I've always had good success with Testors Model Master paints. The key for a nice paint job on a foam plane is always to have a properly prep'd(like removing any old adhesive) and smooth a surface as possible, and light multiple coats. (light coat, let dry, light sand, light coat, let dry, light sand, etc...) The light sand step with a fine grit paper is optional. You may also have to do a primer step if you are attempting to go light over dark.

RE: Foamy Hellcat Wanted
Well Scorpio planes are hard to come by. Hobby Lobby used to sell them and sold the F6F Hellcat and FW-190 but they no longer do. Best bet if you want a Scorpio is to check on EBay or RCGroups and post a wanted thread in their for sale section, you'd be suprised who may have one still up in their attic. I wish I still had mine but I sold it over a year ago to a friend (who hasn't built his yet). People were selling them for around $80 + shipping last I saw one on RCGroups. Other than that. BP Hobbies has a nice foamie F6F Hellcat (38in wingspan) that may do the trick for you. I'm thinking of picking one up myself. http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=D0556102&pid=D0556099 Thanks, Kevin

RE: 3Dfoamy.com F-18 and the hard choice of power source
Have you checked DonsRC line of 'Wicked' outrunners? http://www.donsrc.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=12 He also has his own vendor forum on RCGroups. You could always ask him. He's a great guy, very knowledgable and has great customer service. I'm lucky to get to fly with him on a regular basis. That's a pretty 'big' plane if I remember correctly. If it can fly with a 6x5.5, I know his 'Wicked' 2700 can handle the amps. I'm pretty sure you can push 40A through it. Hope this helps. Kevin

RE: VQ models, Delta Rocket?
Hi Sgt. My setup is as follows: AUW 17oz. 25" wingspan DonsRC Wicked 2700Kv Outrunner (2) 9gm servos Corona 6ch Dual conversion Rx Graupner 5.2 x 5.2 CamSpeed prop 3s 2200 20C Lipo DonsRC Pentium 40A ESC Static testing is: Peak Amps - 32.5 Peak Watts - 344 It settles in at: 29Amps / 300 Watts. It flies great and is a real quick. It's got great vertical performance as well. I like bringing it around 1/2 throttle and then put the coals to it going vertical and throwing in some rolls then cut back ont he throttle and bring her around again. It holds its straight line WOT passes well too. No surface flutter present and no modifications to the build. Gotta love balsa and ply planes. It's a ARF and total build time was about 2-3 hours including getting the wrinkles out of the covering on mine. Go slightly nose heavy at the indicated 150mm CG mark if you are going with a fast ~100mph setup. That works for me. I'm not running dual rates currently on it (I might this year but haven't had a problem my current setup). I"ve got my servos at 50% travel and have 40% expo dialed in. Take Care, Kevin

Nice plane Sgt. Shaggy. Nice choice on the transparent covering. One of the great features about the Millennium RC planes is the rib-work structure, etc... Transparent covering really shows it off well. I have the Micro SSX Bi-Plane. Again, nice choice on the custom covering job they did for you. Here are some pics of mine (I did the covering :) transparent red on the tops, transparent white on the bottoms). Thanks, Kevin

RE: VQ models, Delta Rocket?
Good luck with it Mark! I still fly mine. I did end up going with a Graupner 5.2 x 5.2 cam speed prop (everything else is still the same setup-wise). I actually do a 3/4 throttle on frisbee hand launch with it. Still flies great! The JGF 500TH is a sweet motor and shoudl really make this rocket scoot. What prop you thining of going with? 4.1x4.1, 4.5x4.1? Thanks, Kevin

RE: Venturi effect
I agree with what you are saying as the intake needs to be large enough to supply the required air to the fan throughout the entire speed range (different rpms), but yes, if it is too large then that will increase the airplanes drag coefficient and/or decrease the fans efficiency but to make a boilerplate statement that 120% FAS for the inlet shows poor design quality is a little harsh. Like I said I've never done any inlet mods as I've never felt the necessity but just to throw an example out there the recommended inlet for the Hyperflow EDF unit is 129% FSA, the recommended exhaust area is 99% FSA with a minimum of 90% FSA.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7883695

RE: Venturi effect
Yes. I usually go with 80% of the FSA. FSA is Fan Sweep Area, which is the O.D. of the impeller minus the diameter of the EDF center hub. So it is a doughnut shaped ring. Calculate that area, then you want the outlet diameter to be 100% of that diameter value for thrust, 90% for a mix of speed and thrust, or 80% for speed and less thrust. Once you go below 90% the amps will start to go up from back pressure. On my old Wattage MiG I did the calculations and found it to be exactly 100% which made sense as that was built around a brushed 400 motor using their 6-blade impeller for maximizing thrust using a weaker brushed motor. I set mine up with 4000Kv brushless motor and took 3 blades off the impeller because I was going for more top end speed (trading off a loss of thrust) but it still had plenty of power out of the shoot. I then did the exhaust nozzle duct mod reducing it down to 80%. I gained approx 8 mph with an increase of 3-4 amps. As far as the inlet goes you want to shoot for 120% ideally from what I have been told. But that's not hard to do if you choose to perform that mod as well because the opening in front of the EDF unit is a complete round circle, not a ring like inside the EDF unit itself. You also want to radius the leading edges of inlets, no sharp inlets. I haven't bothered doing any inlet mods yet as the performance of the EDFs I have is either good as is (for me) or the exhaust duct mod to 80% has given it enough of a performance boost (again for me and my tastes). Hope this helps. :)
