RE: Aileron servo for Kolibri powered model?
We use on the models for Kolibris OR Futaba S3150 (larger models like the Opus Hotliner) OR Hitec HS65MG (like also the servo of preference in the small top helis like the T-Rex 450) In your case, I would go for the Hitec HS65MG. Nicolas.

RE: New Sprite nano turbine. Now with video.
That's a fantastic achievement... John showed me the motor during JetPower but I was unaware of the performance ! If those nanos will be able to deliver 3 kg of thrust a whole new nice will open in the market, because that's a serious power to weight ratio Jason, I am sure you are going to have a LOT more fun with this one than with the JJJ . I still can't believe some people are still enthousiastic about it after reading your posts/reviews on the JJJ [:D]. Once you start comparing it with a soft french cheese or giving us the impression you need more ballbearings than fuel, well... Any idea of the fuel consumption of Johns' Sprite ? I am curious to know because 3 kgr of thrust instead of 1,7 kgr on for example an Opus hotliner would be mindblowing... But at the moment my fuel tank is already empty after 2:30 minutes [:o] ; with this one it would be perhaps a big minute... ??? Gregg Bolton just set a new world record in California with the Opus DS (in glider version, Dynamic Soaring) at 342 MPH (548 km/h), so I think the frame COULD take the extra stress... [8D] Not that I dreaming of having one, the present speed is all I need to say the least [:@] Perhaps Wren can produce them ?... By all means, let us know everything about this Sprite turbine. What RPMs are you reading ?

RE: Curious, what is the draw to the
I have more fun with the planes with a Kolibri (either it be a foamie, an EDF, or a hotliner) than with the big jets. The build, complexity, and most of all the maintenance and care you have to spend on a "big one" is also fun but rather exhausting compared to the "foamies". Don't be fooled by the number of posts here on RCU about this sudden interest for nano turbines : it is not in proportion whatsoever to the number of pilots actually having one or will be having one. Most people will eventually still opt for the most common turbine size. Only negative point I am facing with, with the small turbines : we fly on grass fields and take-off with those tiny wheels is far from evident. Apart from that : I can see that I make double as many flights with the small jets than doing with a big one during an afternoon. Nicolas.

RE: Hunt for micro jet for my Colibri and JC P-20 finally over
Ali, Best retracts for Kolibri thrust class are from Jet-1A, Sandor from Digitech has'm, although not listed on his website. (see photo below) Such tiny struts are less easy to find... Nobody offers them that small, except some of inferior toy quality... I have just ordered the trailing link tiny ones from SAPAC AMERICA, these look better than what I've seen so far : http://shop.sapacamerica.com/browse.cfm/4,1856.html (I am building the SAPAC L-39 with Kolibri turbine right now : http://shop.sapacamerica.com/browse.cfm/4,1626.html) Nicolas.

RE: Colt-V /Kolibiri Turbine Glider Bird Hit
Hi Ali, The Jet-version is almost entirely made of carbon fibre, and includes the carbon turbine mount, conformal fuel tank,... Overall the quality is superior to anything else on the R/C market today. Finishing and make are world class, read the comments on the internet, it's second to none in the RC glider world (and also holds the world speed record in DS Soaring - do a search on YouTube !-) The Opus flies simply fantastic, never had a plane with such aerodynamic performance. Only headache of the Opus V-Jet is how to install everything in the nose. You need tiny fingers and a lot of patience, and cutting all tubings & wires to precise length. I made for this a cradle (by waxing the outside of the nose and moulding a fibreglass nose copy which fits perfectly at the inside). Of all models for a Kolibri turbine, this is the best choice available. With preference, don't select the autostart Kolibri for the Opus, because in case of a slow start of the turbine you can heat up the epoxy skin of the Opus really fast as it is a close distance to the exhaust (I have coated mine now with BVM Heatshield, where I initially only had selfadhesive alu foil on the wing, see photos below). The manual start version Kolibris are much better cooled and ventilated during start-up. Nicolas.

RE: Tell me about KingCats !!
You are right about the kangaroo landings. I have a BobCat. Assuming that the KC and the BC land the same, my BobCat was doing the same as what you describe. But I found out that, once it starts bouncing, it can take a LOT of up elevator to flare it down at high AOA, to prevent this repeat. Usually we don't dare to do that, being scared to stall the plane at touchdown. But the BC takes the high AOA easily, to my pleasant surprise. So, if it jumps up, I pull hard on the elevator and bleed all speed first before it touches down again, on the main legs. Works better than you might expect.

RE: Colt-V /Kolibiri Turbine Glider Bird Hit
Hi Xantos, It is exactly the same wing and V-tail ; the Opus is the glider version and the Colt is the version for electric power (and later on for the Kolibri); the Colt fuselage however is a bit wider to accommodate the batteries (or fuel tank). There has been a lot of confusion in the market about the Opus vs Colt ; and seen the fact that the name and legend of the Opus is much more famous, Peter changed the name of the Colt V-Jet into the Opus V-Jet recently on his website. There is also an Opus W version (gliders only), with small winglets (or curved wingtips, how you call it) at both V-tail and wings, but judging by the internet forums this one is more prone to tip stalling in critical low speed situations. I agree the same would be nice in a bigger configuration, but it would be also nice to have a bit bigger glider for the same kolibri power, it doesn't have to be a 14 lbs turbine. Now it is really full speed and by times really stressy with the Opus, as you know... [:D] In particular, if you fly with others (or birds) and you have no idea where exactly they are in the air when you are making a full speed dive and unable to look ahead... Nicolas.

RE: Colt-V /Kolibiri Turbine Glider Bird Hit
Peter Adolfs showed me the wing of the Opus DS at JetPower2008, this one is substantially heavier than the Jet-version. There's a lot more layers of carbon used. It was held at both wing tips and I could litterally sit on it and swing up and down. Never seen any wing as rigid as that one. I have an Opus V-Jet and an Opus DS, both are fantastic airplanes... So far, I only hit a few bees and the like : luckily I use a FOD screen on my kolibri but it's obvious the bugs were hit VERY hard. [:D][:D][:D] i am going to install an airspeed sensor on my Opus V-Jet because I really want to know how fast this rocket really is... http://www.wingedshadow.com/index.html

RE: Test flew my BVM BobCat Composite + JetCat P-80SE
I installed airspeed and altitude sensors on my BC this weekend : http://www.wingedshadow.com/products.html I fly with a P-80SE, and do not like pylonracing style [;)]. The top speed recorded was 297,1 km/h and peak altitude was 424 meters. (approx 185,7 mph)) Again, not a single attempt was made to break a record, just normal flying. I am very pleased with these simple, cheap, but accurate little devices ! Highly recommended, and their online shop is excellent. Nicolas.

RE: Airpower Sequencer
I have the same sequencer and had the same problem last week, when programming it for the nose door on my BVM BobCat, although you seem to have a problem with the memory of the sequencer. Try this : Reverse the operations (doors+gear) with your programming card, and swap the airlines on your valves. It solves it immediately, although it was not logical when looking at the default "open" or "closed" position of the air valves itself (which you can check when you operate them WITHOUT the sequencer in between). I assume that the sequencer has its' own "default" reboot position, which is having just a little more reboot delay than the one on the valves, and hence dominates the default final position of the valves. (sorry for my bad english explanation). I used on the gear a double Airpower airvalve and for the doors a doubled Digitech airvalve. Maybe this can help you out. If not, I think the sequencer is a faulty one and might be replaced. Make sure you have read and followed the instructions in the manual completely. I did pass the programming cycle several times, even after it was set correctly, so I was sure that my settings were not erased if I did exit the program + disconnected the program card on a wrong point in the programming cyclus. Good luck, and let us know how it went. Nicolas.

RE: New JetJoe J-Junior 4lbs turbine
I agree with Woketman and all the others trying to bring good common sense to those badly wishing to believe a waste of 1000 $ is well spent. Sorry guys, but I have to work very hard for my money and I do enjoy weekend after weekend my Lambert Kolibris. I paid the value, and yes it is not cheap, but at least I have so many flights now under my belt and all these 'believers' not one single flight of which they could say their 1000 $ gave them the simple enjoyment of being confident the engine was reliable. I feel sorry for them, I would definitely feel like being ripped off completely ! Still do not understand why some of them still want to make others believe here on RCU it was a great deal, or eventually will become a great deal. I can sell you bottles of water too for astronomical prices and tell you it is coming from 3000 meters below the surface and will bringing you luck and happiness under condition you drink enough of the stuff. Again, for me this thread does not contribute at all to RCU anymore, enough is enough. I want to unsubscribe. PS. I can also sell you coconuts from outer space, if you are allergic to the pure water from my precious well. Nicolas.

RE: Tried flying the F-16 off grass today..
Well, Tor, I read your previous comments on the overcapacity of the combined three fuel cells before. I have measured up to the last ml how much they can contain (do not know it by hard anymore right now), and will make a decision tomorrow how much fuel I will be able to carry. I am going to install the tanks now, because I was waiting for JetPower to purchase some of the good old Orbit fuel clunks. You are right, the total is really too much unless you're going for the "big" turbines (like yours !). And yes, the landing on 2:27 is what I am looking for, and how I used to land F-16's. They love the high AOA to flare the speed off. Some pilots land F-16s flat at high speed like they do with a multi trainer ; I do not understand why...

As said somewhere before, for a kerostart plug you will need to install a heavy battery.... and we run such size turbines with 2S Lipo packs of 700-1100 MAh only (the Kolibri consumes about 80 MAh per flight, only).

RE: Did anyone see the Jet Cat P-20?
The new JetCat P-20 will have 2,5 kg of thrust at 250.000 RPM, only gas start, I was told. Martin Lambert also showed me his own new turbine at JetPower, it was really hard to see it was a little bigger than the Kolibri. Output is 2,5 kgr as well, but he is not happy with the reliability yet (he's known to be a perfectionist, after all !). I have three Kolibris and these little ones have an incredible output, flying the Opus V-Jet at JetPower at full speed together with three other planes was absolute stress and insane. I have now 1,7 kg of thrust and only 2 1/2 minutes of full throttle with the 380 ml tank. More power would mean even shorter flights and more speed ? No thanks, not with the Opus... I loved the well-balanced routine of Peter Adolfs' solo flights with his own Opus.
