RE: What aerobatic model this is?
Definitely a Cap. Definitely not a Chipmunk. Not an Extra either. Now, I'm not sure exactly WHICH Cap it is, but that should narrow your searches. (i.e. Cap 222 or Cap 232 or Cap 232EX?)

RE: Good Handheld Rotary Tool
I'm wondering what you guys are doing to your Dremels!? My Dremel 400XPR has given me nothing but trouble free service, and tons of power for years, and I have used it for some tough projects. I purchased a cordless Dremel with Li-Ion battery for my dad to replace his first cordless Dremel (which he's also had for years) and it's power is amazing. Plus they have tons of good attachments. I would definitely recommend Dremel products.

RE: Two crashes in less than 24 hours!
Thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't really upset since it's all part of the hobby, it was just that my 2 best flying planes were out of action! [:)] The gear for the Showtime is carbon fiber and was completely splintered in half at the mount point. I suppose I could have repaired it with some carbon fiber fabric, but GraphTech had a sale on some of their replacement CF gear, so I got a new set for $25 instead of $50! (And much less than the $75 Hangar-9 wanted) The Showtime is already repaired and ready to fly when I get back from vacation.

RE: Inrunners?
Hi John, Yes, the gearbox is a stick-type mount, though it can be firewall mounted from the front. The gearbox has screw holes to be mounted behind a firewall, not in front like most outrunners. I have HS-56's that I have loved since getting them! I should probably get an outrunner anyway, since that seems to be the norm these days. Most 3d type foamies I see are designed for them.

Inrunners?
Hi everyone, My first 3D foamy was an E-Flite Tribute using the Park 400 Inrunner motor with gearbox. I was wondering if the 3Dfoamy.com planes have a provision or can be modified for this size inrunner motor? I'm interested in getting one of these planes since I haven't had a 3D foamy in a long time, and I wanted to use all my micro equipment from the Tribute. If not, I'll just have to get an outrunner, which is actually not a big deal considering all my other equipment (ESC, Li-Po's, servos, receiver) should work. Thanks in advance for your help!

Showtime 90 Replacement Gear
Hi everyone, Last weekend I ripped the gear off my Showtime 90. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I can find replacement gear for it other than Hangar 9. They want $75 for a set of carbon fiber gear, and I cant justify that. At that price, I'd just double it and buy a new, similar plane. But I really like my Showtime and would like to fly it again. Anyone have or know someone who has a spare set they'd be willing to part with? Or can someone point me to some aftermarket gears? Come to think of it, it doesn't have to be the exact gear, just something that fits and is the correct size. The gear dimensions are: Total length: 16 in Height: 7 in Width: 1.5 in Width at fuselage (flat part): 6 in Thanks in advance for any help!

RE: Beginner??? Probably!
ORIGINAL: Kennelmaster Will I crash and destroy the plane.  Yep, I'm planning on it.  Who amoung you hasn't?   But, I also plan on learning something from each and every flight.
Sorry, but I tend to agree with jetmech. I can safely say I did not crash and destroy a plane when I was learning to fly with an instructor. That same instructor is now my mentor/coach. I've learned so much from him that I would not have on my own. Now, that's not to say I haven't crashed. I have crashed when mechanical issues arise, or control of the plane is lost, or from pushing the limits in aerobatic flight. But I have never "planned" on crashing and destroying a plane to learn something new because I was too stubborn/proud/etc to ask for help. Please don't take offense to this, as I really do wish you the best and hope you succeed. The more the merrier in this hobby! However, please don't generalize others. Good luck, you've received a lot of good advice here! [8D] PS: Dont forget to take pictures of the plane before its first flight, just in case something happens! [:D]

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Bill, it's shame that they bump the price 80% and aren't able to improve anything to "justify" it. Stupid bad economy! Waldo, that's pretty impressive! I would have never thought that to be repairable! Unfortunately, I already gutted and trashed the remains of my Twist. It will be missed. Now, I'm trying to find a good, relatively cheap aerobatic/3D performer for that OS .46 AX. Looking at profiles for the first time too, but everything is just too expensive for me at the moment, or out of stock. [:@]

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Hi everyone! I lost my Twist yesterday. It just stopped responding to all control inputs after a level pass and went in at almost full throttle. Completely obliterated! The cause is unknown at this time. The engine somehow escaped unharmed, and all the electronics seem fine. What a great flying, fun, and reliable airplane. I lost count how many flights I had with it, but it had to be over 200. I picked it up from the LHS for $100 a few years ago....its so sad to see that same LHS wants $180 for another. Enjoy the pics of the carnage. It went in behind a barbed wire fence surrounding a water tower. One of younger members managed to squeeze in to recover the pieces. I was impressed at how the broken mount/firewall completely punctured and demolished the tank! Hopefully this sacrifice to the airplane gods will keep them appeased for a while![sm=biggrin.gif]

Does this look normal? OS .46 AX question
Hi everyone, Yesterday, I lost control of an OS .46 AX powered plane, and it went in at almost full throttle. Other than some dirt, the engine seems fine, as it has no external damage, and it was not turned over in case of dirt ingestion into the carb. Today, I began taking it apart to check for damage and flush out any dirt that got in. Now, I'm not very knowledgeable on engines, so I wanted to verify that the slightly burnt piston top and head is normal wear and tear for this engine. The engine has been giving me no problems since I got it, and it was tuned by en experienced member of my club. So does this look normal? Is it an indication of lean or rich running? Here's some more information about the engine: Fuel: Wildcat 15% nitro, 18% oil Gallons: approx. 7 Prop(s): 12 x 4, recent change to a 12.5 x 3.75

Two crashes in less than 24 hours!
I was out flying around with my Showtime 90, and did two rolls on a vertical down-line out of a maneuver. I shouldn’t have done that second roll. While trying to ease it out of the dive (to avoid my ST’s right snapping tendency if too much elevator is applied), I ran out of altitude and went into the soybeans. I almost made it, but the wheels must have caught on the crop. Damage: Punctured right wing (from the gear I imagine; this has happened before and was patched already). Left elevator ripped out. And the gear was BROKEN. Now, the gear is the part that surprised me. Last summer, the gear ripped out on takeoff, puncturing the wing bottoms, and destroying the gear mount area and plate. This time, to my pleasant surprise, my rebuilding job (hardwood sprinkled with carbon fiber) survived, and the landing gear itself was sheared at the mounting plate. Even the bolts are still in! I lost all control of the Twist after a level pass into the wind. It went in at almost full throttle after the wind blew it back towards us. There’s a large water tower behind our runway surrounded by barbed-wire fence, and the plane went in behind the fence. Luckily, one of the pilot’s sons was around and he managed to squeeze inside and recover the pieces. The battery was ejected several yards away, OUTSIDE the fence. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. The radio equipment and engines of both planes seems fine. Neither engine was turned over, not until each is thoroughly cleaned. I’ll take apart the engines and send in the radio equipment just in case. So, anyone know where I can get a replacement gear for the ST90? Anyone know someone who’d be willing to sell it to me? I’d rather not buy a new set from Horizon. At $75 for the gear alone, I might as well buy a whole new plane.

RE: Super Sportster40 turtledeck covering
I think it would be easier to do it in multiple pieces, but it would most likely look nicer to do it in one piece (less seams). This can also depend on your covering scheme and how many colors you're using. With multiple colors, you can strategically place seams in places where there are color breaks.

RE: why after run oil should be used
This is what I do, and its been working for the several years I've been in the hobby. After my last flight, I taxi in and.... ....empty the tank. [sm=teeth_smile.gif] It might be the fuel (Wildcat and Omega 15/18 and 20/20), but my engines run fine without after-run oil or "running dry". And they sit for months sometimes without being run when I'm away at college.

RE: Can you help to identify this airplane?
You're welcome Andre, but I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. I figured I could post the entire specifications for the Top Flite Fw-190 so that you could be 100% sure it is/isn't that one. My reasoning was that is a possibility that someone had plans for the Top Flite Fw-190, and had a short "kit" cut from "Moe's Precision" cutters.

The Top Flite FW-190 D9 has a 63.5 in wingspan, if that helps. Here are more specifications about the plane: SPECIFICATIONS Aircraft Type Sport Scale Warbird Wingspan 63.5 Inches Wing Chord 11-5/8 Inches (Avg.) Total Wing Area 712 Sq. In. Fuselage Length 61 Inches Stabilizer Span 22.5 Inches Total Stab Area ~ 123 Sq. In. Mfg. Rec. Engine .61 2-Stroke; .91 4-Stroke
ORIGINAL: flaminheli Sorry, I am not here to make a believer out of anyone but nope, never crashed. I guess I am just ahead of Murphy. RE: For those that want to be self taught...
ORIGINAL: flaminheli I was self taught over 20 years ago and still have never had a plane look like those. I have owned I can't remimber how many planes and have never crashed one yet. I am not saying I never will. Not everyone needs an instructor or a club.............just sayin
Then you were the exception, not the rule...the 1 in 100 that was able to do it. The vast majority of self-taught pilots will crash many times and spend too much money trying to learn until they succeed (if they stick around that long). Its not to say that they wont succeed, but when they do, they would have spent so much time, money, and effort when things could have been much simplified with an instructor

RE: P51-D Standard size of insignia
What I would do is find an accurate 3-view of a P-51 that shows the Stars-and-Bars. Measure the wingspan and fuselage of the plane in the 3-view, then measure the length/diameter of the insignia on the wing and fuse. Divide the measurements to get a size ratio. Now, use this ratio, along with the wingspan and fuselage length of your model to figure out how large the insignias should be for your particular sized Mustang. I've done this for insignias as well as wheel sizes for models. Hope this helps!

RE: MK Aurora 90
Hi guys, I dont mean to hijack your thread, but I have a question for you guys. I learned that a plane I got from a friend is an MK Aurora. I was planning on working on it and flying it, but I have decided that I wont be able to and want to sell it so someone else can enjoy it. A member of my club is interesting in purchasing it, and he is asking for a price. However, I'm unsure what to tell him since I'm unfamiliar with the plane. What do YOU guys think an Aurora is worth? How much would YOU pay for this plane: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8815916/tm.htm Thanks for any help you can give me. PS: I should mention it comes with the full set of trike retracts.

Mike, Thanks again for the information. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed to hear its such a good plane. Can you identify this plane?
Hello everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me identify this plane that I purchased from a friend a few years ago. It has a one piece wing, tricycle retractable gear, and I believe it was powered by an OS .91 4-stroke. It also has a fiberglass belly pan, visible in one of the pictures. Wingspan: 67 in Length: 58 in (without spinner) Weight: 7-8 lbs empty Any help would be appreicated. Thanks in advance.

RE: Getting new Planes?
Get some scrap balsa and plywood and break it into pieces. Maybe add some miscellaneous hardware. Acting very sad and distressed, show it to your wife and announce that you crashed one of your plane. Of course, it needs to replaced now! Note: make sure she never sees the plane you said is crashed again....not that they really recognize them anyway. [;)] Just joking, though I would imagine this would be a funny and interesting trick to try and see if it works! Dont have a wife yet, so I cant give you any advice from personal experience. However, I will make sure my future wife tolerates my addiction! [:D]
