Looks like the carb was cast from the roughness in the opening and the seam line in the back. That's weird. I wonder if you'd pick up any RPMs if you smoothed out the opening?

Dirty Birdy said it best, you can set there and try starting a motor that isn't going to start by just holding down the trigger, that's what I mean by hot. That Persuader at $140 seems like a cool product.

Thanks Paul. I am really too new to this to even know what my flying style will be but I'd like to get this engine for the Vertigo and use retracts for CPA if Frank keeps up his contests. I do understand what you say about different classes between this engine. You know there was some argument about using the Webra a few years ago in the pylon racing because even though it was under powered on the ground it unloaded more in the air and could beat the OS .25. I think that's the way it was. This could be the case with the NR on a pipe. Tim

Jets, cool. I've got a fiberglass BAE Hawk in the shop that needs to find a home. We found a huge P-40 that my buddy said can we make a mold of that...sure we can! We had build night tonight and worked on it. I edited the post above, let me know if you make some molds.

I figured you were using those rolls for something like that. If you mold it let me know, we may have to work something out [:D] I looked for a TT when I got into pattern a few years ago and came upon a Dirty Birdy (which we molded), a Vertigo II (I just left the shop from working on the plug, it's a mess), Phoenix 6, and a Cutlass but no TT 4 [8|] Tim

It kind of looks like a Tiger Tail IV...not an expert though, let's see what everyone else says. HOLY COW, you have an Oce!!! We switched to Kip at my last job...POS! It wouldn't print my large scale plans...guess it was meant for contractor plans so I guess I couldn't complain but nothing beat the Oce. Man, an Oce, 3D router, and a laser [:D] How do you get any work done. If that's a Tiger Tail we need to make a copy of it. I love that plane. This is what they look like.

RE: Warbirds Over Texas 2012 WBOTX
Thanks for the comments on my previous post even with all it's sentence fragments... Here's some photos by our friends from Amarillo. The Bearcat is mine. I didn't fly it on Saturday, headache from heat I guess (darn office job has made me soft). It was built by Lee Rice and this plane, let alone a large warbird, is still very new to me so I want a bit of time to get intimate with it before the next meet. Ken the video makes me want to get my Moki going. Maybe I can get it done by next year. I know how long it takes to go through video and photos and how tedious it is and I'd like to say thank you to you and everyone else who takes the time to post their work! Tim

RE: Warbirds Over Texas 2012 WBOTX
I respectfully disagree with the comment that inferred the event was not ran well. I fell it was professionally conducted. The pilots were instructed on safety several times while I was there. There was ALWAYS a contest coordinator at the flight line. The spectator area was well away from the tent area that that pilots set up. The visitors were told to stay behind the roped off area until the public viewing took place during lunch (I know this because my friend was asked to stay behind the roped off flags). They were futher away than any other field I've seen. I CD events and thought that safety was the highest I've seen. Every pilot had a spotter at all times. I didn't see any hot dogging. The planes were fast and if it scares some people to go fast then don't do it. These pilots were all flying the set pattern as directed. One guy slowed and the other one didn't expect it. I could go on and on but I think everyone gets the point. It was a well presented event and the rules were above and beyond those required on AMA's rules pages for this event type. I actually felt bad for Terry and Ed because they were so dedicated to their responsibilities they didn't get to enjoy what the spectators did. Terry seemed to never leave his post (unless he visited the smelly saunas) but he seemed happy in his labor...thanks Terry! I wouldn't mind helping next year so you can take some more breaks. So before you make a derogatory comment about fellow modeler and throw them under the bus, please realize they are fellow modelers and we are all sharing the same passion. I ask that you put yourself in their shoes and think about how you would feel if someone belittled your hard work. As a good friend says, 'thanks for making it to the end'. Tim Edited for grammer...or what I like to call fury typing. : )

We went out and got our tent set up, Yippee! (Would have stayed but had to get a CAD job out tonight). Saw this huge Fw190 and greeted the first person that walked up, 'hey Evan!' Funny thing, we've never met...HA! I've just been admiring it from his web site. If just the ones I saw today were the only ones to show up it's going to be fun but I'm sure it will be a much larger turn out. Hopefully I'll get some photos and video. Tim

Ha, that's great Dave. Roger, The only concerns I would have are the wings as things get kicked up from the road. My windshield has some comments on that one. RE: Hitec X4 programing NiCd in Auto
Thanks for all the great responses. A buddy of mine has the AC unit and I talked to him last night. The Auto setting is accessed just as I was trying it but he said you have to fiddle with it a bit to get to the Auto but he's never used it. I mailed off the Accucycle yesterday and they said if they couldn't repair it they would sell me a new one at a reduced price which was good with me. In conclusion I would still buy the X4 over again because I like the way it does Li"xx" batteries and 4 mini chargers in one is cool. I'm still getting to know it and would like to explore it a bit more and learn more about the battery technologies and report back. The settings on each charge bank goes to 6 Amps and if my power supply is 13.8v and the unit does a max of 200w then I should have a total of about 15 Amps total so you could do (2) batteries at max before you run out of juice (provided I did the math right A=W/V?).

RE: Hitec X4 programing NiCd in Auto
I'm starting to see the picture here. .5C or less may be the right number for these chargers on Ni batteries. In the programming I found where you can change the delta peak to a lower amount at the risk of undercharging. Any NiCd or NiMH I've charged with this charger heats up. I found out a possibility why here: http://pgrpages.com/rc/nimh/index.html I had the Accucycle Elite before and I loved it. I got the PZ P-47 and two batteries the other day and was excited to get the batteries charged. I didn't have the right adapter so I used a multi adapter that has all different fittings on it with my Accucycle on a 28A power supply. Well the multi adapter has a glow ignitor charge plug on one lead and I figured out the end must be positive because it touched the power supply case and bye bye Accucycle. I figured for the same price the Hitec could do 4 batteries and I mostly fly large gas planes with Lithium batteries and passed up the Accucycle. But the guy in the article above said he had the same problem with Nickel batteries. I don't mind paying over $200 for a charger that does it all but I haven't seen one that does all the newer technologies and the older ones too with 4 ports. The Elite would do everything but LiFE but I have an Ion Cube but it seems Fromeco stopped selling those. I may stick with the Hitec and still buy another Elite if Hobbico can't fix it. It senses the battery but then you can see the voltage rapidly climb till it gets an over voltage alarm. The other solution, change my pattern planes and my JR transmitter to Li Ion or A123 but I'm not sure about batteries for the transmitter.

RE: Hitec X4 programing NiCd in Auto
I just charged my transmitter battery. I used the Save Data mode and said it was a 1500 mAh 9.6v NiMH and it didn't shut off and the battery was pretty warm. I'm not getting the warm fizzies about this charger like I had with the Accucycle Elite but it seems to do a great job on Lithium type batteries. Maybe there's still a parameter I need to set for the nickel batteries. If anyone has some suggestions I'd like to hear them. Thanks, Tim

Wow, deep cycles are expensive there. Here, they are about 1/3 more than car batteries. You can get one for around $75 to $100.

RE: Field Battery
Car batteries are not designed to be discharged that far and recharged. The manufacturers say it will destroy the lead cells in the batteries. That's why they make deep cycle batteries.

Hitec X4 programing NiCd in Auto
Hello everyone. I just got the Hitec X4 and I'm having a little problem with programing it. It is easy for Lithium batteries but my problem is the NiCd and NiMH. I'm starting with a 4.8v 1100 mAh battery. The flow chart about 3/4 of the way down it shows PROGRAM SELECT NiCd BATT I pressed Start/Enter. and get the Man (I guess that's the manual screen). But I can't seem to get it to the Auto section.
