Ordering From Toni Clark from the US
Hi, Does anyone have experience ordering from Toni Clark from the US? I would like to order a Fema G62 starter and a few other items. Like to know what other peoples experience has been.

RE: WTB Fema Starter for G62
Hi Warbird Lover, I have see the Toni Clark website. Do you have any experience ordering from them? Hi oldtyme, The Fema starter is a onboard electric starter for the engine. Flip a switch on the TX and start the engine. I want to get it for 3 reasons. Safety no hand in the prop, the TF GS P-47 I am building always need nose weight for CG so why not make it functional. I think it is really cool and always wanted one.

Yes, That's what I do...I cut my own kits. I harass Fiberglass speciaties. (In the past, now they have round cowls available in all diameters.)

The objective question still remains...Who knows what plans have a round cowling that is around 9" in diameter?

Yes, But this engine hauled around a 19 lb Staudacher very nicely! Albeit after replacing the seals which seemed to be damaged during assembly, new seals are still available. However, it still runs excellent! It's favorite propellor is a Bolly carbon 21-10. I know Bolly is out of business but a suitable mejzlic, or pete's will do.

Yep, That is exactly the info I need: What kit or plans have round cowls that are 9"+? Say 82-84" WS, 17-22 Lbs?

RE: G38 impossible to hand start
Hand starting the Zenoah G-38: Fool proof! switch ignition OFF. Open throttle wide open. Completely cover the carb opening. Turn over engine 5 times. Uncover carb and agressively flip prop 5-6 times to vaporize the raw fuel in the engine. Ignition ON. Set throttle to IDLE. While wearing a leather glove try hand starting. When the engine bumps or sputters give it a round house swing like you're going to slap someone...guaranteed, it'll start every time!

RE: Zenoah G62
I cut the back crankshaft off on my G-62 while the engine was still assembled. I did get it too hot and damaged the rear seal slightly. I couldn't figure out why the darn thing would run nice on the ground but run lean in the air. I recommend taking the crankshaft out to cut it. It's... your cylinder head...it's not cheap either. Good luck!

RE: Question about ignition timing
Right now my G-38 Mag ignition with Slimline smoke muffler runs righteous as long as I use one of the heavier 18-10 propellors such as MA Classic, Zoar Laminated, APC. I purchased a Bolly Carbon 18-10 and the airplane and the engine did'nt like it. What I mean is that the vertical and overall performance of the airplane was better using a propellor of the same size just more mass. Would a 20" carbon propellor perform better on this engine? I don't want to buy one @ $50 bucks just to find out it won't work well either.

That answers it! The how, why, & when. Thank you all. PS. I don't usually like to talk about retarding either because usually if I talk about it too much it sinks down to my thumbs...

RE: Question about ignition timing
So, If my common sense is serving me correctly (based upon the corespondence in this thread) I can fairly assume that our electronic ignitions are slightly retarding the timing to make the engines easier to start? Then once started the electronic ignition automatically advances the timing? I have always set them according to spec timing using a wheel and all that but never knew how and why. Also, could someone explain why the idle is so much smoother when using an electronic ignition? Is it because of a hotter spark? Is it because the timing is automatically retarded somehow?

Question about ignition timing
I have a question about gas engine performance with a magneto type ignition vs. auto advancing electronic ignition. Let's start with a stock Zenoah G-38 on a mag type ignition. The timing stays the same from idle all the way up to full throttle with no advancing or retardation of timing. If I was to upgrade the ignition to let's say an RC X-cell electronic auto advancing ignition

negative using an incidence meter. The kit's stock wing incidence is set up at 0 degrees. It's not very hard to sand down the rear of the wing saddle and it helps to prevent it from snap... a little more. Cap 232's are extremely elevator sensitive for some reason. Take it easy at first

RE: Wk-0701 flight controls for plane
Good news: Epoxy always works very well on foam. Bad news: I don't think you can use that transmitter on planes. The only transmitters I know of that are interchangeable are the higher end computer radios such as JR 7-10 channel, Futaba 7u, 8u, 9's and up. That's what I know. Good luck, sorry you crashed, hope your next flight is a good one.

RE: OS FS 91SII w/ pump question
In my experience using these engines: If it's new or nearly new you just have to set it right meaning needle adjustment. If you bought it used and it has sat around for awhile on someones bench it always seems to be the pump and as before mentioned in this thread I agree that the only thing you can do is send it in to have the pump repaired/replaced by an authorized OS engines repair

Gyros for airplanes
I have been noticing flyers hovering very precisely lately and was wondering if they are secretly using gyros? Everyone I ask denies it, but when I try it my planes are all over the place...it's embarassing! No crashes yet...just wondering. Incidentally, there is a YAK in my simulator that has a gyro (or two). Anyone using gyros out there?

RE: DL-50 engine mount tab broken
Just take it to your local community college and have the top dawg aluminum tig welding student bevel both sides and weld it back on. I have done this many times, and since the crank case is cast aluminum it shouldn't distort very much or enough to hurt it. Make sure it is completely disassembled, in other words no seals or gaskets. I am a career weldor, yes the puddle is dirty but if done right should hold well. use 3/32 E5056 Aluminum filler rod. A/C, High frequency Tungsten: PURE (not thoriated or anything else oriated) or rare earth only. Start out with 35 AMPS GOOD LUCK PS-I made these mufflers for my AIR HOBBIES (Sachs-Dolmar) 50cc twin as the stock ones I felt were too heavy thereby lightening it by 9 ounces.
