RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
Thats a tough one Tony,I'm sure your next paint job will be great.I also did my first Super Cub with F&M products .I got everything from Chip ,the fabric,poly-brush,polyspray,polytone paint, tapes.I had very little problems with the regular Poly-Tone paint,I actually enjoyed using the stuff.I scanned a couple of old pics, they arn't great and you can see my bungee covers were a bit loose

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
I ordered the BUSA hinge kits(2),I'm almost finished the left wing .Anyone know of a good off the shelf lighting system(navs&strobes) that I can install without doing alot of soldering etc.I checked Sonictronics and they are now developing a new system. The Ram site doesn't show anything for big airplanes.I guess I could make my own but would prefer something easy.

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
I like the idea of doubleing the formers and lite ply ribs Tony, and I think I get the picture of dowling the butt joints.I was also considering some 6-32 rods running from corner to corner forming a X brace, and then silver soldering the centre of the X,and adding more gussets to each corner might also help. Another solution is to fly it like it it should be flown in a scalelike manner which I plan to do ,especially on floats..

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
Just about to start my PA-18,it will be on the BUSA floats which are already built. This is my 2nd BUSA 1/3 Super Cub.My first one had a Z-62 in it with a Fema onboard starter.I had many many wonderful flights with that airplane however it met its end early in life because I flew it hard not knowing that the centre section was its weak point. It wasn't designed to do high negative G manuveres. One day(a few years ago) I rolled inverted, gave it some down elevator, and that was it..one wing seperated from the fuse.It came down on hard ground so it was hard to do a post crash analysis of what gave first, but we sumized it was the centre section that gave under the high negative G load.Lesson learned. Nice build Tony.

I've never seen 8000 rpm with an 18x8 prop on my OS 160 twin, with an 18x6 wood prop maybe.

RE: CESSNA 185 35% TMMY COMPOSITE
I like the floats they make ,I wasn't happy with the scale mounting system using screws to mount the brackets to the floats however.Maybe it was just me and my hard landings i had a few times but the screws started to come loose and then strip insided the float.I have the 1/4 scale 2000 series for my J-3 they show in the gallery pics.I eventually went with brass inserts in the float that accepted 4-40 bolts.. Nice floats though.

RE: CESSNA 185 35% TMMY COMPOSITE
Hi Randy;Any updates on the 185?The fuse will be in one complete section, not cut in half aft of the rear window is that correct?I think I would prefer a one piece fuse.Is Tommy adding a tunnel for cannisters on this one?Gotta keep the engine noise down a bit. When do you think you might receive the first 185?Are you still thinking of distributing over here?I am still interested in getting one. Nice job Glenn, how does the nose gear oleo look,do you think it is strong enough? Also what is the width of the cowl near the front?I'm wondering if a Saito 300 twin would fit in there.

I've been running in my 2nd FG-36 and its been running great with about a gallon through it now.I'm going to install the first one into a Giant Sportster,It needed to have the valves reset, one was out quite a bit.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
Got four flights on mine now,I leaned it some more and she really hauled the Monocoupe around the patch this evening I mean it got FAST!It sounds like a Ferrari at top end .What a machine.I really like it when you can hear the engine echoing off the trees a 1/4 mile away,Pretty cool.It also does a really nice snap roll.I'll try and get some pics later. Thanks for the info GaGeeBees ,mine seems to like the 18x6MA so I'll keep that on for now and I'll just leave my low end for now cause its running real good ,I'll just need a higher mah battery sometime.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
Finally maidened mine today after all this time. The Saito 170 is more than enough power, although it is still new with only a tank fuel through it.I'm only using a 1500 mah ni-cad on my McDaniel however and it only lasted two flights.Mine is set to come on just under half throttle right now because its new and needs some breaking in and final tuneing. The plane flew really suprisingly well with little trim change needed.Approaches were predictable ,all I needed was a click or two of power before bringing her down to land.Nice. GaGeeBees could you tell me about your break in procedure on your 170? You also spoke about the need to set the low end correctly, did you half to lean it some? or...Right now my main is about 31/4 -31/2 turns out and I haven't touched the low end needle.I'm going to get another higher mah battery like a 2000+ soon but for now i'll use the 1500.I'm running a 18x6 MA prop on 15%.

RE: Twin Otter 125inch wingspan
I was just thinking the same thing John about personal choice and weight considerations John.I 'm thinking of going with 1/4" rod and 3/16" plate.Should be plenty strong. One could also add a faring over the landing gear that you bolt in place.

Nice jig Tom,keep up the good work.,plane looks great also.Looks like your pics need reducing to email size before uploading. Some camaras have that setting built in,or your computor can do it also.

RE: GAS Saito
Just seen the online manual.Ok 20-1 it will be with full synthetic..The way things are going I dont know if these engines will go in my DC-3.Especially with it haveing a main centre fuel tank thats 18" away from the carbs.I hate the thought of putting 2 strokes back in it.But I may have to do that,or go to glow.

RE: GAS Saito
Still breaking in my gassers on my Sig 4-120 before I reinstall them in my DC-3.I have just over 5hrs on one with no problems(except the roll burping-it also burped tonight when I did a touch and go,could that be from the wheel impact causeing something?).I was thinking of trying the diaphram venting to see what happens there but my engine is uncowled at this time and its out in the open mounted upright. Just wondering when everyone is switching to 30-1 oil mix.I'd like to try this soon .I'm using Lucas semi-synthetic. Steve

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
I like the electric option also,no vibration,no hacking up the cowl etc.I may just get one of these.I had the kit version with a OS 91 and it flew great with that engine,I think a 120 is too much unless your going with floats. Steve

RE: GAS Saito
Just checked mine and I also noticed some oil in that area. Not much, just a slight trickle.Checked the bolts and everythings tight.I'm going to just keep my eye on it to see if it develops any further. Other than that everythings fine,I have about 2.5hrs on mine right now.I'm turning a Master airscrew 3blade 16x10 at 7200 rpm, still running 20-1 mix of Lucas semi-synthetic oil.My Sig 4star120 has almost unlimited vertical climb.Never weighed it yet.

[quote]ORIGINAL: GaGeeBees [quote]ORIGINAL: RHarding Is anyone out there using a multi cylinder engine on the Pac Aero Clip Wing Monocoupe. I'm thinking maybe the OS 300 twin.
