RE: WACO YMF
ORIGINAL: Jaybird Hi Bill, I will be visiting friends in Wildwood the week of November 11 through the 17. Perhaps I can visit you and your shop during the first part of the week? I won't have any planes with me but it would be fun to see some local modelers flying. Jaybird
Look forward to it. Bill, Waco Brother #1
ORIGINAL: lovehydro Bill, I am wanting to do the same thing on my byron build. I want to replace all the foam (wings, vertical stab and rudder, horizonal stabs and elevators). Any drawings, templets you genorate for your project would be appreseated. Paul
I use a build stick to set up the rib placement. I will have a template or 2 from the rib cut, but they are pretty much identical from root to start of tip bow. I will be using 4 spars with shear webbing, and will probably put a shallow kerf along all the spars to lock the shear web. Nothing like a couple of I-beams to make things stout. I will be laminating the tip bows. I'm still going to use the flap actuator from the kit. It is pretty well thought out. Bill, Waco Brother #1

Thanks Vincent. I'm in the process of building a new set of wings instead of using the molded foam versions that Byron's used it the kit. They are wimpy weak, and subject to all kinds of hangar rash. I just couldn't remember how the top surface of the wing was laid out at the aileron juncture. Bill, Waco Brother #1

When I got home yesterday, I had just a little mowing left to do. Finished that, and took a plane out of the shop and went flying. Dead calm on the ground, but 100 feet up, it was gusty as all get out. Still a windy day flying is better than a calm day sitting on yer arse. Hopefully everyone is doing okay. Actually Bellcranks do serve a very useful purpose. I still use them, but secure them so that they cannot come loose. I use them when I need to change direction of a control rod and don't have the space available for a servo. Full scale airplanes used them too. Look at the aileron control on a Waco sometime. A little off the topic, but when we needed a correct cowl for our Waco YMF birds, we built a plug, sent it to Fibertech and they now offer it for sale. Y'all could do the same with needed glass parts. As for the rest? I guess you could do the same thing. It is obvious that the manufacturers have moved on to bigger and better things. It was a promise, and one that I was and am fully prepared to execute. The AMA forum is a little different from other (open) forums, since membership was a requirement to be able to post. Trying to deny a member the right to post is denying him/her a basic tenent of their membership. You overstepped your authority in banning members. You just never met anyone else with either the will or the wherewithal to take you and the AMA to task for your actions. I was/and am serious in that regard. Bill, Bottom Feeder #1 AMA 4720

RE: AMA to close the AMA Discussions Forum
ORIGINAL: Arbo The AMA had a set of rules, and the did not want the bickering and arguing, they did not want the negativity so many brought to the forum... it was the AMA's agenda. A nice and civil forum that protrayed the AMA and it's members in a good way.
If the AMA only wanted posts that portrayed them and it's members in a good way, then they should not have opened the forum up to the members at large, but only allowed the Leader Members to make posts. The only membership that counts or matters (other than the funds collected) to the AMA seem to be this part of the membership. The AMA has done a lot of good for the hobby, but there appears to be a hidden agenda that wants only a select few to have any voice it the enterprise. At the same time, there is a lot that the AMA has done that does not well serve the rest of the membership. We (those with open memberships) don't have any voice in what goes on in Muncie. True, we do get to vote, but our voices are not heard at the EC level. So if they did not want any negativity, then why did they see the need to install a moderator? I firmly believe that the forum was created with the intention to fail, so that the EC could point at us and say that they did institute a forum, but we (the membership) ruined it. Guess what? The membership at large will never agree on everything. They should not have set the bar so high that no one could clear it. That's just my opinion (ought to be yours) Bill, Bottom Feeder #1 AMA 4720

RE: AMA to close the AMA Discussions Forum
Arbo, When only one person has a negative opinion of you, you can ignore it. When the majority of people with whom you come in contact has a negative opinion of you, you must might wish to pay attention. The problem is that once you became the moderator of the AMA forum, you began to operate it to suit your own agenda. The AMA is far from perfect, but you would not allow anyone to cast any opinion that did not mirror yours. You caused that forum to fail simply because of your totalitarian methods. Had the AMA allowed the forum to grow and become a sounding board for the way that the membership wants the organization to proceed, then we might have actually been able to steer the AMA in the direction which we would like it to grow. As it is, there is still only the Good ol' Boy mentality running the show, and even worse, only the Leader Membership has a real voice in the operation thereof. I don't have the club problem that most have to be able to fly. I can go out of my shop and set the model down and take off. I have been a member for many years, and I'll be damned if I'll allow people such as yourself to run me off. In responding to my previous post, you tried to turn my comments as if I had been talking about someone else. Let me make one thing clear. You were the person to whom I was commenting. You are the sole reason for the demise of the AMA forum. Who's toadie will you become now? Bill, Bottom Feeder #1 AMA 4720

''No those are Tx packs''..... '' well you could use a regulator'' ''What is the cell size?''...........''They are for JR,Hitec,Airtronics, Universal'' My local hobby shop has become a ''Toy Store'' I can go online and get exactly what I am looking for in seconds. RE: WACO YMF
The trick is not to use outer wheel collars. Instead, solder a piece of brass tubing to a brass Tee that you will cut from a strip of K&S brass strip (I used a piece that was 1/32 thick, and then drill a small hole just before the end of each point of the Tee. Drill a corresponding hole for each of the 3 holes in the outside of the wheel pant. Once the wheel and inner pant is mounted, add a 2-56 screw to the pant and tee. The piece of tubing will hold the wheel in position, and the 3 screws look just like what the full scale has. Joe, the hatch and latch are found in posts 7785 and 7811. The cabane strut modification is found in post 8064 and 9083. Here is a pic of the wheel pant showing where the tee goes. Bill, Waco Brother #1
