RE: Model Tech Magic Extra ARF - 40
If it is a 46FX or AX it may be overkill but should work great. I have a OS 46 LA and it hovers and pulls vertical out of sight. Fun plane, flat spins like no other. I'm repairing mine at the moment, was harriering around the field at 2' high and a gust of wind got me and cartwheeled it and snapped the fuse right behnd the wing. Will be a bit heavier when done, but will live to see another day. I'm getting rid of both of the pull/pull systems, I really don't see a need for it, especially with control rods vs. wire cables

RE: question on checkout procedure
Thanks for the reply, makes me feel better about it. Hince, the name of where it was sent, it sounded like another company or auction service.

question on checkout procedure
I just made a puchase on the classified ad. When I followed the RCU checkout per the Invoice he sent me, I clicked on the PayPal icon in "my market" and it took me to PayPal to log in. I noticed that the name the money was being sent to was ****************@********.*****. Is this right, will ********* pay him? Again, I purchased via a classified ad not an auction???

RE: Flat Spinnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Well guys, my Magic is on the bench for a while. I was wringing it out tonight, flat spins, hovers, harriers, and lots of fun and craziness. I decided to go with the " just one more" flight before dark and was practicing low harriers landings/circles and one of them got away from me, it fell out about 5' high, cartwheeled, and broke the fuse behind the wing. [:@] A friend took a photo on his cellphone, I'll post it if I can get a copy. It ended up in a unique position, nose to the ground standing straight up with the fuse at 90 degrees[:D]. Anyway, I'm going to put a twist together this week, then I'll start the repairs on the Magic. DG

RE: Spectrum Lock Loss problem
I agree, I use A123 on all receivers now and whould not go back to NiCd or NiMH, you get the added benefit of fast charging and they hold a storage charge at 95% and up. I've never had a brownout since switching to A123. I would not use them on your electronic igition unless you confirm that it can handle the increase voltage. Some EI's can only handle about 5v. DG

RE: SIG Somethin' Extra crashed
Looking good! From the way the firewall popped out in the crash you might consider pinning it from the sides (2-3 tooth picks on each side or 1/8" hardwood dowels work well). A good reminder to check all of your controls before takeoff, I usually stop right at the taxi/flight line and wiggle all controls....also a good way to check and see if you are on high or low rates before takeoff. RE: Magic owners thread
Looks like it might be only you and me on this thread..... anyway, I've got the original gear and while tall, it seems strong. Mine has been brazed where the two braces come together. I would have wrapped them with copper wire as well, but they seem to be ok for now. I searched this tread and the only suggestion I found for a replacement was either a Moose Carbon Fiber Gear or a TNT carbon fiber landing gear, he said to get the gear listed for a Sig Something-Extra and it works good. If I were you, I would try the original one until it fails. Being as tall as it is, you can really go with a large prop without issue, I'm running a 13x4. Also, if you time it right and get this bird up off it's tail while applying throttle, rudder and elevator, you can spin it on one wheel like crazy on the ground, looks pretty wild, just don't give it too much down elevator or you will strike the prop. Have fun! DG ps, I've never had one, but the Webra .35's are suppose to really have some pep, so I would think it would be fine. I'm running a 46LA and it's plenty. I wish mine had the bolt one wing like the V2, rubber bands suck!

RE: Magic owners thread
Trying to revive the Magic thread, hate to let a fun plane dicussion like this die. [;)] I have an older Magic, just about pulled the rudder & stabilizer off Weds. after giving her a workout. Just finished repairing the damaged area and I'm going to add flying wire or rods this weekend. I'm using the 46LA that came with it and it seems to have plenty of power, pulls vertical until you can barely see it. I was using an 12x4 APC, but experimented Weds. with a 13x4 thin APC and it really improves the low speed flying. Nice and stable at idle, pullls like a raging bull! Once I'm in a flat spin, it looks like the elevator has little affect on the flat spin. I can go from up to down elevator without any change in the spin. If I go to neutral on the elevator it wobbles a little bit. Question: How do you guys do a climbing flat spin? Mine flat spins fast and is slow to come down, but I'm not sure what you would do to get it to climb? DG

RE: H9 P-51 PTS Wing or fuse needed
Sharpeye22, thanks for the info. on the wings and the links. Kind of steep on the price but I may go that route if I can't rebuild them. Heck for the price of the fuse and wing I could just about buy a 60 size H9 warbird, maybe that would make more sense[:D] DG

H9 P-51 PTS Wing or fuse needed
Wanted: anyone got a right wing or fuse laying around collecting dust?[/b] Another P51 with a 3 blade prop ate my wing up last week, took my wing off right at the aileron servo and it's destroyed back to the inside of the last invasion stripe. I need to rebuild the fuse from the engine back to the servo compartment as well, due the nice slow death spiral straight down. I lost that dogfight! Actually, it was a no fault, I was faster than he was and he turned inside my turn to make up time and just happened to get too close. I wish someone had been filming, it was pretty spectacular....so I'm told. Anyone know if the new PTS with the red wing tips are exactly the same as the original with the yellow tips? If all else fails, I'll try to build one from scratch. DG

RE: Need help with Astro Hog crash cause
Most at our field use 91 FS's for the Astro Hog and Hog Bipes. They typically rotate after about 10-20 yds. (some straight up on full power, they didn't learn how to correctly take off[:D]) and I've never seen one tip stall. Maybe the extra power overrides the weight of the aircraft and wing loading.

RE: saito prices
That's why a lot of folks are running $200 Chinese Gas engines in place of their glow and 4S. Half the cost, and 3x the flight times at low fuel cost. I'm hoping as you see more and more gas engines hit the market Saito and the rest will lower their prices. We shall see!

RE: Which brand of plane makes the best 3d er's
3D is kind of confusing, on one extreme you have sleek Cap, Extra, Yak styles with thin winged designs with large control surfaces. On the other end you have fat winged Twist, Uproar, Dazzler or more extreme profiles Mojo, etc. They all seem to perform many of the same types of 3D manuvers yet they are so different in design. Anyone have any more indepth info. on how two totally different designs perform kind of the same?????

DX7 aircraft backup possible?
Is it possible to back up your aircraft setting to a computer or to another DX6i or DX7 Tx? Now that I have 7 airplanes and 1 heli programmed, I would hate to loose the setting do to a malfunction. I know you can write all the settings down, but it would sure be nice to be able to transfer them to another radio without going through each set point.

Sig & Tower
Looks like Tower has quit carrying Sig Kits and ARF's. Most of the Sig lineup has discontinued after it when I just searched kits and arfs. I wonder if Sig is in financial trouble or just a fallin' out between the two. I do know their Customer Service has a bit to be desired, my LHS has had an order placed for 2 months now, and when he emailed them for an update they haven't responded. He said they are the only company he deals with that doesn't send him confirmation of an order???

RE: Fiberglassing center wing section...
A few guys at my field use polyurethane. a few coats fill the weave nicely and is self leveling. Brush on a coat, apply the glas, wait 30 mins. apply and reapply as necessary to fill the weave. I saw one guy do his wing and fuse using silk and polyurethane instead of dope. Looked great!

RE: Did a dumb thing today
Been there done that! I really felt stupid when I had only solo'd about 2 weeks before. My instructor walks by while I'm flying and said, "I didn't know you fly spektrum radios" I replied "what are talking about" He just pointed to my antenna and frowned. Lucky for me no loss of signal or glitches and I immediately pulled the antenna out. Now I have switched to Spektrum and don't have to think about pulling the antenna up. If I have the wrong airplane on the radio, the Rx will not respond, which is another nice feature.

RE: Is There An ARF Similar to a Sig Kougar?
If you want to build a kit, the Ultra Sport 40's and 60's are very nice pattern type fliers. Pretty quick with the right engine and a great wind plane as well.

RE: backyard slow flyer
Thanks guys for the suggestions. I do have experience flying glow airplanes at our club field. I've flow a PZ T28 at my house in that area, it's not easy but I've done it. That aircraft is quite a bit faster than what I'm looking for with my young family members. I do have the ability to take the airplane up higher above the barn and trees which will expand the flying area to double the size. I will definately need to be the one to take off and land it as it will take some precision and skill unless it flys very stable and slow. I'm thinking the Vapors and such will never work outside as we hardly ever have a no wind day. How is the Slow Stick, will it really fly slow and still be stable? Will it require a change in motor to a BL outrunner & ESC or does the stock setup work well?

backyard slow flyer
What would you guys recommend as a electric back yard flyer (area is about 150 yds long x 50yds wide)? I would want a 3 channel minimum, or 4 channel would be ok as well, must have good slow flight characteristics , I plan on letting my nieces and nephews buddy box on it to give them a taste of RC flying.

RE: Do all 2.4 Ghz systems require a 5 cell (6 volt) receiver pack?
And it pisses me off that Spektrum (JR) sells their radios with 4 cell 4.8v batteries since they know this is a potential problem. Why not include 5 cell, 6v batteries from the start? Amen to A123, I've switched over 5 of my airplanes Rx batteries to A123, and have never looked back (last a long time, fast field charging, don't loose much juice when sitting idle....what's not to like?
