RE: Official Muggy thread
Sweet looking jumps!! Damn, if it would only stop raining here I'd be able to clean up my track. It's nothing but a soggy over grown mess right now. j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Anyone using aftermarket sealed bearings and have recommendations. The stock inner wheel bearings, the big ones, suck. I have to replace them constantly. I don't drive through water hardly at all, but lots of sand, a little mud (rarely) and tons of dirt. And my inner wheel bearings disintegrate like it's their job. Suggestions? j

Noob question: Can you run a pull start in an 8ight?
Just wondering b/c I can swing a deal on a 8ight 1.0 truggy and have a pull start motor handy to drop in it. Is it possible? I won't be racing so I don't care about that stuff, but would I need a different motor etc? Thanks, j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Hey demi, Don't know if it's the same stainless screw kit I bought off fleece-bay but I too was utterly disappointed w/ the packaging and quality. Basically a waste of money. For your steering set up if you have a radio that allows end point adjustments you can go w/ a single high power steering servo like the Hitec 7955 or similar. You won't be disappointed. j

demi, glad to hear that mod helped out. I'm gonna do the same thing as soon as the wife loosens the purse strings up a bit :) Rich I just finished breaking in my z.28 yesterday and it rocks!! I can't compare the two, but my bud just ordered the .30 on saturday and after he drove my Mug w/ the .28 is thinking he should have saved the extra $30 for other thigns :) j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Yup, the steering slop is so bad I'm seriously considering gutting my Mug for an 8ight. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but willclark's mod looks like all he did was change to ball links. How has that helped w/ the slop? My LF wheel is just disgusting w/ slop. And as far as I can tell it has to do w/ the bell cranks being of poor design. And since my motor is blown for the moment, I sat there and looked at the steering geometry last night for like 30 min and could see no way to improve things. The bell crank is simply too high up in the air off the chassis w/ butt kiss for support. Anyone else got any ideas? j
ORIGINAL: Sugafree Take it apart and Clean Everything Really Good.......I've Heard of a Few Guys Loosing there Filters & Still Managing to get some Life outta there Engines......(May Never Run Like New anymone....But it's worth Trying)
That was my intent, but the money it would cost for replacement parts I'm almost back to the cost of a new motor for something that I don't know how it's gonna run. There is zero pinch left, the piston and cylinder are completely shot, the bearings are all ground down and pitted, the carb slide is grooved and chunky and all kinds of "scars" all over the inside. The track we were running on was insanely dusty and there were many bumps and collisions with dirt clods flying everywhere. Poor thing must have been sucking dirt for a long time. Snif. j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Sad day in Muggyville. After dinking around for days to get my z.28r w/a pull start to fit properly I got her in snug as a bug in a rug. Didmy break in and was super happy. Then yesterday while bashing around atthe local track I took a wicked tumble. I should have checked the mugover but didn't and get driving. Pull her in for a break, take thecanopy off and to my horror see my air filter wedged down between myservo tray. Toast. The motor was filled w/ sand, grime, grut. Utterlydestroyed the motor. Ooohhhhh the horrorrrrrrr!! j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Bahh... I totally had my head up my arse when I asked that question. I meant to ask about the throttle/brake servo set up. I believe the stock Muggy comes w/ JR servos and I know the JR and Hitec splines are not the same. So I'm using a Hitec servo arm on my throttle/brake set up, but don't like the clearence I have. Was wondering if anyone uses a Hitec servo for throttle/brake and what arm they're using? Is there a little spline adapter available for using non-JR servos? Thanks, j

RE: Official Muggy thread
I thought of that, but then I'd have to buy the Losi spin start. Or at least the wand and hope it fits my roto start. The spin start is a hex drive the roto start is a dog bone drive. I think I've ordered the right stuff and should have it today. Once I get it installed tonight I'll post just in case anyone else is ever wondering. j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Can someone please help me. I got an LRP z.28 spec 3 w/ a pull start for my Mug. I was planning on using my roto start w/ it and picked up LRP item #38134: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLBV6&P=V But it came w/ no instructions and I have no idea what roto start backplate I also need. I've seen it written that some folks use the K series backplates and some say the S21-25 series backplates. I'm confused. Can someone please tell me what the heck I need? Thank you, j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Ok, I'm a noob and need help. I bot my Muggy used w/ a Kyosho GXR .28 in it. This motor is an utter dog. Gutless and funless. So after some reading and budget consulting I'm liking the LRP z.28 spec 3. I think this is it: http://www.rcplanet.com/Associated_LRP_Z_Spec_W_Pull_p/asclrp32802.htm And I think this backplate will work w/ my roto start: http://www.rcplanet.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=LRP38134&Search.x=35&Search.y=9 And I've read good things about this pipe: http://www.rcplanet.com/Ofna_JP_3_Jammin_Inline_Pipe_p/ofn10051.htm But for the life of me I have no idea what flywheel I can use. My Kyosho motor came w/ a crappy 2 shoe clutch/flywheel that I don't want to use. I have the dynamite extended life shoes and mugen 1.0 springs sitting on my bench, but I have no clue how to figure out what flywheel to use. Can someone please help a noob here? Thanks, j

Cool. This is my first non-traxxas wrap around spring clutch so the whole idea of shimming and these little springs are all new to me. I guess you shim to keep the clutch shoes off the inside face of the clutch bell right? Anything else to worry about? Thanks, j

RE: Official Muggy thread
Hi ya'll, New (to me) Muggy owner here. Picker her up gently used off eflay. Looks to be in decent shape w/ a Kyosho GXR .28 in her. Not the greatest motor, but it started right up when I pulled and ripped around. Will do for now. But I need to replace the spur and clutch and clutch bell. I've read almost all 29 pages of this thread (good god!) but I'm kinda new to nitro vehicles. I want to keep it basically stock-ish so I'm thinking the stock (46t?) spur w/ a vented 13t clutch bell and the dynamite shoes found here: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/10016 The wheels are not stock. They are lighter Ofna Hyper ST (I think) wheels so I think that clutch set up should be ok from all the reading I've done. But can someone please tell me or link to what springs I should run w/ the dynamite shoes? Thanks, j

RE: NEED HELP !!! LOOKING AT GETTING A T-REX WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS
Not to burst yer bubble, but the DX6 is marginal for use w/ a heli, the HS-55's and 50 blow goat on a T-Rex and the Align gyro is OK. Seriously, look around and you can find a better deal than that pretty easily. Check out places like Modefo's, GrandRC, Northeast Sailplane Products, RC Hover etc. They all offer fantastic T-Rex packages that are better equipped and nicely priced. j

RE: Trex Build Question
ORIGINAL: w_keith Thanks for all who have replied. I have tried to squeeze them together and that just doesn't seem to work out well. As stated, one would need a third hand or more to accomplish this. I am going to take apart again and try some more. Again thanks for help. At least I know I am not missing any parts there. William
Are you POSITIVE you have the plastic flybar arms correctly? I've corrected this assembly blunder on numerous noob builds. Are you POSITIVE you have the metal arms facing the right way? That is, they are opposite of each other in terms of length, long end vs short end are "next" to each other. See attached pic. j

RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
Heat sinks just "pop" on. But ya, you should use some thermal paste too. You can get that cheap at Radio Shack or similar store. Use a VERY thin layer of thermal paste spread onto the motor or heat sink and then just pop it on. Make sure there is no label or sticker or what not between the motor/paste/heat sink when you put it on. Be careful of the thermal paste, it gets everywhere and does not come off easily. j

Can you alter small dc brushed motors?
This is kinda OT, it's not info for my heli's. But I know how motors work etc., but I'm wanting to fart around w/ some little dc brushed motors that I have while I'm yet again waiting for Shogun parts. I've looked on google etc., but can't find any info on how to kind of figure out what kind of rpms and/or tourque I can get out of brushed dc motors by altering the number of windings etc. Can anyone give me any insight or post links to somewhere that can explain the relationship of the windings in the small dc brushed motors to rpm and tourque? Thank you, j
