RE: Anyone did an Aurora 9 three position switch reversal.
Hi AL, Sorry I missed your reply. I have seen the complete switch assignment in flight conditions programming, but I was asking about changing the switch position in the per-programmed Flap Control menu. I was taught to fly with all the switches facing upwards towards the pilot when off, but the switches are set by default to be off when pushed all the way downwards the ground. I cannot seem to change the switch position in the Flap Control menu. I might have to do a programmable mix in flight condition to get what I need. Thanks for the reply Al.

RE: Anyone did an Aurora 9 three position switch reversal.
Many thanks Alan for your valuable and prompt information as usual, very much appreciated. I have to look though some more video clips to find the switch assignment menu. I looked at all in the airplane and glider section, nothing so far. i remember seeing a screen shot of an A9 with all the switches on the screen, but cant seem to find that anywhere in the airplane menus. Will keep looking at the links you sent. Best Regards.

Anyone did an Aurora 9 three position switch reversal.
Hi Guys, I have had my Aurora 9 for nearly two years now and cant recall seeing if this is possible. I have been taught nearly 20 years ago that its easier to have the radio switches in the up position as default. So for example on the Aurora 9 i will push down the C switch for dual rates and then push down again for triple rates. I was Ok all along until now I want to do a Flap Cond mix with elevator mixed in using switch E. Since the Aurora 9 has full up as the third position I cant get the elevator to be active in all three positions the way I am accustomed with full up being off. Is there any way you guys were able to reverse the switch orientation using software, so that all the way up will be 0 then first down position be 1 and then 2? Thanks Guys.

Yes you can get updates for any microprocessed controlled device of any sort, this TX included. Its easy to see if it has the dead zone issues. I bought another one a few days ago, no issues so far, I think you will be OK Its only the first batch which had issues and just for a few months, all of those would have been on the market by now.

I have been using Futaba TX's/RX's with Hitec digitals close to ten years now and never had any issues. I have never seen and had so much equipment failure compared to 10 years ago. I know that there are so many other products now on the market than before so failures will be greater, but still I just seem to see and experience a huge decline in quality.
ORIGINAL: AJsToyz I actually have not been following this thread to closely but I'm pretty sure my radio has the Deadband/Null zone issue. Is the causing any other issues that I need to be worried about? If it is I'll just contact Hitec and send it in. Andy
Andy, do yourself a big favor and send it in. Mine has the dead zone issue close to WOT, glitching at full down elevator, freezing though I updated the software every time there is an update on the TX, RX and TX module, charger died on first day, not a big deal but the system timer runs faster than the real time, my TX has 24hrs logged but in reality its maybe 2/3 of that, the antenna has a kink in it, got it like that NIB. I have used this TX no more than 20 times flying. I am praying that they replace it with one from a later batch. Mine was one of the very first ones to be shipped to NA, so I got the bad batch bite. I am a bit disappointed with the amount of manufacture defects and flaws we are having these days, especially in electronics. Its harder for me to accept it since I have been a certified electronic tech since 1987. I took a Katana to Barbados as well, brand new everything. I usually build my battery packs but was out of time and grabbed one from the HS just before I left for the airport. I installed and programmed everything and everything seemed flawless, cycled the battery, tuned the engine and went flying. On the second circuit I was flying hands off, third circuit came around and lost input to the airplane, got a low battery signal alarm on the transmitter, it read ZERO volts. Airplane went in, demolished, pulled the battery out, it was wrapped in 1/4" foam, measured it..... ZERO volts, I knew there was an internal disconnection. I opened the shrink wrap to find that the tabs on the battery pack were not spot welded on properly, the shrink wrap was holding the tabs just enough to make contact to the cells. The tabs lifted off as I opened the shrink wrap. I shipped the battery back to be inspected and they agreed with my discovery and we are now working out some sort of compensation. It will never cover my expenses for my airplane plus freight to Barbados, my airplanes were each crated and shipped. Just an hour ago and $ 100 after, I shipped my Aurora 9 back to HiTec because of known issues with the first batch shipped to the USA and Canada. Gone are the old days when you got what you paid for. These days you can pay a fortune and still end up with crap, it's frustrating. I cant ever remember us having so many issues with RC products as we did 10 to 15 years ago. Andy, send the TX in. [>:]

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Hi Alan, You are absolutely right, I was told prior to now about the dead zone issue in the pre April 2010 A9's, I bought mine in Jan 2010 so it is one of these with the issues for sure. I have the dead zone issue on the throttle but on down elevator I am getting a glitching issue around the same position where the throttle has the dead zone, which sometimes glitches as well. I have observed these on the servos and on the monitoring screen on the A9. The sad part is, I am an electronic tech and can install the hardware but I am sure Hitec wont ship the replacement components, they will want to ensure that they do it. I don't have a problem with that, its just that the summers here are short and now that I need the A9, I have these issues and will suffer down time. Thanks for the reply Alan. BTW how is the cricket doing there, have not watched the world series in years, been so busy and its only on PPV most times. Thanks again, I will send the A9 out tomorrow. You are a HUGE asset to the A9 users, much appreciated Alan. Cheers.

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Hi Guys, I have discovered an issue with the WOT position on the A9, so for mode two left stick way up, seems to be glitching from last three or four clicks to the top. With the stick in that range and while looking at the servo and monitor screen on the A9, I can see it glitching. I was setting up another airplane and while setting up down elevator, mode two right stick up, and cycling the servo, same glitching issue as well. Identical issues with both left and right sticks between top position and 4 clicks below. I spoke with Hitec and they told me that there was a resistor issue and was told to send the TX in. I have not been flying much at all, maybe 12 flights so far since I had this TX and now when I need it the most, it has to be sent out.............oh well that's the hobby I guess.

RE: Official Parkzone Extra 300 thread
Guys I got this extra a week ago and test flew it today. There are a few firsts here for me. This is the first time I am flying again after a seven year break. The last airplane I flew before getting caught up with moving into a new house and arrival of two kids, was a giant scale Edge 540 with a DA50 engine. This is my first electric airplane, the first time I will be using the new Hitec Aurora 9 and the first time flying and landing on asphalt. I pointed the airplane into a slight wind, powered up and with slight up elevator, the Extra went up like I had flown the day before. I had to give it a very slight amount of up and right trim and the airplane flew very well and tracked very straight. I did some rolls, knife edge, spins and even tried to hover the thing. After six minutes, I did a few low passes at varying speeds to see how the airplane behaves and I did a few test approaches (which everyone should do with a new airplane) to see how it slows down. I decided to land and I must say, I was impressed despite all I heard of this airplane dropping out of the sky at low speeds etc. I nailed the first landing scale like at a slightly faster than normal airspeed I am used to. Dropped in the new battery flew a bit more and decided to slow her down a bit more for landing, it did not like that, I had a very low one time bounce and settled down. I spent the time to set up all the control throws as accurately as I could on the ground and had the battery installed where the recommended position was for the first flights. I like this airplane and after being away so long from the sticks, I must say it flies well. Happy landings!!!

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Brandon, I called Great Hobbies and was told that their hands are tied with handling warranty returns of Hitec products since they are not instructed to do so. I was told that Hitec wants full control over warranty returns since they try to eliminate abuse of the returns. He said even if something is defective in house at the hobby shop, they have to send it first before getting a replacement. I can understand that Hitec is cautious of how and who takes care of the warranty returns, but it ends saving Hitec money at customers expense which is not ethical. Please don't think I am being malicious, its not about cost but principle. I guess I am a bit upset since I am such an advocate for Hitec especially being a new customer of theirs with the A9 but feel let down by this charger issue. If this was an isolated case I would say fine, treat it cautiously, but already you can see people having issues with these chargers. I am in business since I was 17 yrs old and for 23 years providing customer care, an electronic tech by profession and the owner of a BMW Performance Shop, so I am used to having all sorts of stuff returned and dealing with customer service, I just found this to be a bit different and disappointing. Would like to emphasize again, its not about cost but principle. I might just toss the charger in the garbage and use my Triton to charge the damn thing. Disappointed that the TX is under warranty but here in Canada its not handled like that entirely. Brandon I am not ranting at you at all since I am sure you are not the one who implemented the warranty policy, however you represent Hitec publicly and should be the one to convey issues to the top like this. I am surprised at in this age, Hitec will have defective wall charges, this is no longer rocket science.
ORIGINAL: Brendan Lugo What it is is that the shipping companies will not issue a ARS return label to Canada. Because of this we cannot track the return package with your defective product back to us so we unfortunately have to require that you send us the defective product for us to replace for you.
I can understand that Brendan, then why not have your Canadian retailer like Great Hobbies where I bought my TX from handle the exchanges? Not only will this eliminate the shipping issue with the ARS but it will also reduce the wait time tremendously. The shipping takes time and then customs does 50 happy dances before looking at processing the returns. The wall chargers definitely have issues and this will become an issue for people here and I guess the sooner some arrangement is made for Canadian customers to be taken care of the better it will be.

I am not happy about this!!!!!!! Just called Hitec and was told, that US customers would be sent new chargers, but since I am in Canada (I guess seen as a corrupt country) I have to first send the charger AND at my expense before a replacement is made. Why is it a new one will be sent to the US with no issues but not only do I have to send mine back, I also have to pay for the shipping????????? If this was the same right across the board for US and Canada I say fine its the warranty policy, but because I am in Canada, I have to pay and send the defective one back!!!!!!!! Not cool at all. The third issues is, if I was flying I would have to suffer the down time not being able to fly until the charger is sent and returned. I can work around charging my batteries but what happens to those who do not have the facilities to charge the TX otherwise????????? I am really annoyed at this. I have been told I have to wait another month for my RX and even that I am ok with but this charger issue is unacceptable.

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Just opened up the charger at the shop, I could not get access to the circuit board underside since its soldered directly to the AC pins. I was surprised that there was no on-board fuse in the charger. The diodes all look fine including the zener diodes. I could look up the specs on the ICs and check them but its not worth my time. This charge does not have a primary coil and uses high resistance to drop the voltage. Primary and secondary circuitry has connectivity, so no open circuits, I suspect an IC failure. I charged my A9 a week ago and it was charged, but i left the wall charger plugged in the AC outlet and I am not sure if it did not like that. Wall chargers are supposed to be OK with an AC supply with no problems. Have to call Hitec for replacement. So before you guys pull your gray hair out [:D] check your charger. BTW I am using the stock battery.

I havent maidened it yet because of the weather. Believe me its worth the wait. I also sent in the coupon for the free reciever and 1/2 price one. It is way easier to set up then any radio i have owned to date.
I told you so [:)]

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Guys, after spending a few hrs on my lathe and milling machine, I made my own neck strap balancer tonight. I attached a long screw with a nut to the original neck strap hole on of the A9 and used a thread to find the balance I like best, which is a slight tilt to me, which is the normal flying position. After that, I did a drawing on a piece of flat stock aluminum, using a digital caliper to measure and mark off my test bolt and nut balance, jumped on the milling machine and milled away. When I was done, I measured the A9 NS hole and made a cap on my lathe and this is what I ended up with, a perfect neck strap balancer to suit my taste. I have to polish it to a mirror finish. For a quick sketch and some time on my machines, I am happy with the results. I will mill a slot through the balancer so I can see the status light on the A9 which is below the NS balancer. You can also see my own home made gimbals as well. They are slightly bigger in diameter, the top having much more surface area and with no sharp spikes, they are so comfy [:D] This is the second set I made, I sold my Futaba 9CAP to a buddy with the first set by accident and the bugger likes them so much told me to make myself another set.
