RE: OS 120 AX Problem ?
Here's the foolproof tuning method for the perry pump, if you try to tune with the adjustment screw on the pump as the instructions state, you will lose all your hair, and throw the pump onto the ground and stomp it to death, save yourself the heartache. Open up the muffler if you've had it blocked off, peak the high end, don't back off rich. Go to idle, if engine idles well for 15 or 20 seconds, lean the low speed 1/4 turn, Go back to the top and re-peak, go back to idle, same routine, if it idles for 15-20 seconds, lean another 1/4 turn, continue this process until engine will not sustain a idle, it should speed up and die within 20 seconds. Now richen the low speed 1/16th turn at a time until engine will again sustain a idle, after each adjustment on the low speed repeak the top end, as soon as the engine will sustain a idle leave the low speed alone. Each flying day just repeak the top end and back off 150 rpm for flying. You have to go lean on the low speed needle to the point of no idle then come back up to get it right. Transition from idle to midrange up to full should be crisp without sputtering. If you run the high speed to rich you will have the same problem with sputtering. My O.S. 120, 160 and 1.08 performs flawlessly with this setup using a Bisson pitt's muffler, I had to lean the low speed 1-1/4 turns to get it to run properly, just make sure you peak the high end and only back off 150 rpm, be sure to use a tach. On my 1.08 it took about 7/8 of a turn on the low speed to get it right. When your done your low speed needle will about half open to what it was with the stock muffler, I think mine is about 7/8th to 1 turn open when stock calls for 2-2.5 turns out I think, it's been awhile since I played with it.

RE: OS 120 AX Problem ?
ORIGINAL: airraptor Yes the pitts mufflers do not supply enough pressure to feed the carb. three things to do if want to run the pitts muffler 1.Block off one exhaust tube or pinch both of them closed 1/2 way with pliers 2. run a 30 dollar perry pump 3. run a smaller carb all the AX engines not like to run hot. I am very well versed in the OS 120 AX engine. If you have any questions let me know. The 120 is the strongest one out there and it is also the lightest. It is even stronger than a Jett 120.
The correct answer is #2 I've been running a 120AX on a perry pump for 6 years. I had the exact same problems and this solved them all. Most people on here will curse the Perry pump but they don't know the proper tuning procedure. I'll find it and post it. You will be amazed at the performance when you have it done, but you have to drill and tap a pressure port in your backplate.

RE: Hobbico Avistar a Performer?
Here's a real early pic of the first Avistar arf back in 1991. Sorry for the poor quality it's a picture of a picture, we had no digital cameras back then.[:D] Mine started with a O.S. 61 4 stroke and then I wedged my first O.S. 91 4 stroke on it. Had alot of fun with this setup. Only other suggestion I might make is turn it into a taildragger. This early version also had a semi symetrical wing which had a bit of dihedral which was removed, I think as stated this newer one has a flat bottom wing.

RE: Which Camera to take
I just bought the Canon XS about 3 months ago. It's a no brainer, go with the Canon. I have yet to take a bad picture with it. Easy to use, great software. Here's a couple of shots. second one is with a 70-300 zoom from about 50 feet away 40 feet up in a tree, don't ask![8|][8|][8|]

RE: .52 Surpass on Avistar?
Brandon, I flew my Avistar many years ago with my first O.S.61 surpass. The perfect combination, you won't be disappointed. I think I was running a 12-7 or 11-8 and it was quite fast. The 52 has probably the same power as the early 61. Picture is kind of crappy as it's a picture of a picture, we did'nt have digital cameras back in the early 90's [:D][:D]

No, I would'nt charge at 5 amps. Always charge at 1C which would be 1.8 amps with your pack.

I agree. So according to you this guy is probably not going to fly, just like alot of other newcomers who buy from NP and can't figure out the instructions or repair a problem that nearly all of them have. If your on your second twelve pack by noon, you probably won't be flying either.[:D][:D]

RE: Nitroplanes.com Absolute worst C/S
Slic, I started 23 years ago and built my first plane from a kit, there were no micro's or ARF's or RTF's back then., nor were there any simulators. I had to risk my $$ to learn to fly. I've planted my share of planes into the hard ground. You don't learn much from building an ARF, you assemble it not build it. An RTF you will learn nothing. Your statement you either fly or don't fly really made no sense in relation to what I said.

There was a spycam video of a guy getting pulled over by the cops that was recorded, he failed to warn the cops he was recording them, he's in some trouble right now. I'm not promoting Nitroplanes but if you can find a ARF that does'nt need some kind of work let us know who's that is, especially if they are as cheap as NP. I've never bought an ARF that did'nt need some attention, they all come from the same place, China. If you read thru this section of RCU you will discover all the problems that previous buyers have uncovered so you can address them before your maiden flight, loose or broken parts are common and cheaper to fix then spending time messing with the company. Ever buy from Hobby King?

RE: Shipping a glow engine to Germany? How long?
Kmot, Did your package get to Germany? I remember the guy wanted me to fudge on the value to avoid customs charges, I used the shipping option thru Pay-Pal so I couldn't lower the value. I also insured it for the total value just to cover myself. I heard thru RC Bearings that shipping to Italy could cause problems sometimes. You also had that volcano to deal with, so packages were probably backed up anyway. Shiiping was delayed for quite sometime because of that.

RE: Shipping a glow engine to Germany? How long?
I can't tell you about German customs but, I recently sold a 61 RF to a guy in Italy, it took about 24 days. I watched the tracking and it went in and out of customs about 6 times. I'll bet he get's it any day now. Are you showing any tracking info other than it was accepted? If not I would pay a visit to your post office.

RE: anyone use Futaba S9602 servos?
Those are excellent mini servo's. Coreless, metal gears, dual BB. I used 4 of them for my ailerons on my Dave Patrick Ultimate. 500 + flights. He recommended those in the manual. I've retired the plane and use them for throttle servo's Kind of pricey though like all Futaba coreless servo's. Probably not the best choice for a 40 size plane. I would use the 9001 for that application.
