RE: Expensive US made vs Chinese Batteries
my Turnigy packs last around 200-250 cycles. I've owned about 30 packs, and have yet to recieve a bad one. They aren't 'b' grade in any way. if you are going to pull high amps, go for the 30 or 40C, as they will run cooler and last longer. 20c zippys wear out after about 100 cycles when run near their max rating, especially in a hot australian summer.

RE: HobbyKing 4B6 Multi port Charger
Yeah, I know a guy at our club that has one, it works fine as far as I know. At least he's using it every time I've seen him there :) Glad you got a credit and are on the waiting list for a new one. Shouldn't take too long, those are popular I think. From what I've read Hobbyking are making a priority of improving their customer service at this time. Having shopped there for 6 years I have seen the admin listen to and act on many concerns posted here and on their own forums, from getting rid of inferior products to implementing warehouses in various countries to reduce shipping costs and lately providing spare parts for most of the ARFs they sell. That's why I keep shopping there, I almost always have a good experience, good products (Due to the very active review tabs on all their products, you can easily spot a product that has problems) and I know they pay attention to the community's concerns. Only ever had one issue, and it was resolved satisfactorily.

RE: I am looking for a charger with dual output
This is one of the more powerful ones I know of, 800W (2 x 400W) Is this the one you were looking at already? I know it is sold under different names too. Usually with this type of charger you can use the Temp port as a USB port, but I can't confirm for this model. If you want PC connection for LogView etc, then unless you need to charge two different battery chemistries at once, I'd recommend an iCharger using a parallel board - you can charge six lipos at once at up to 30A (5A each) or two at 15A each etc.

RE: My battery pack is not able to power my r/c car. Please help.
Have you considered the LiPo upgrade option? When I went from dry cells to LiPo the difference in run times and available power was astronomical. You can get a hardcase pack for a little extra, which is better for cars as they are less prone to damage than the soft packs, which are used for model aircraft where the weight is the most important factor. I'd recommend an Acucell-6 as a first LiPo charger, it's what I had and they are very good. Will charge LiPo, NiMh, NiCd, Pb. Also most LiPo's now can be fast charged, in 15 minutes or so from your car battery, great when you're out for the day bashin!

RE: Using lipo battery's in series????
Yes, once you run them in series and check if any of the 10 cells is weaker (lower capacity) than the others, you will know if they are ok to run together. If they are all around the same V after you've run them down to about 75% you're good to go. If not, you can still use them but only down to the capacity of the weaker cells.

RE: LiPo Battery Availabilty
There's not really a close replacement for the LiPo. It has the best power to weight ratio readily available. That's why they're used in RC, your mobile phone and electric cars. The nearest is LiFe batteries, such as A123 - similar power, more resilient (unlikely to catch fire if abused), but heavier. Lower Voltage at 3.7v per cell compared to 4.2v You can get LiFe in soft packs now, which makes them lighter.

Heat. I've used CA successfully to reseat them on small motors. A particular type of high temp locknut adhesive has been mentioned as the best but it's expensive. Don't use epoxy as it softens with heat.

RE: rubber bands for wing hold
Can't say I'm a fan of rubber bands, although they really do reduce damage in a crash. Once you stop crashing (Hang on, none of us have achieved that yet ... Once you crash less often ;) ) Bolt or glue on is the ticket. Just make sure everything is straight, you don't change the wing incidence, you recheck cg, and the bolts are very well anchored to the chassis - and you'll be fine.

RE: power supply for Turnigy Accucel-6
That tower one would work fine. If you want a good ready made one cheaper I know two people at my club using these on an accucell 6, they are 15v 4A which is perfect. I use a 750W server power supply unit (PSU), but a good second hand PC PSU can put out 5+ amps which is enough for the accucel-6. You can often get them for free. Rexbank's link on how to set them up is great, it's not too hard.

charging at 1C means a one hour charge (roughy). So if it takes 15 hours to charge, it is charging at 1/15C or 6% of rated capacity.

RE: A Beginner - wanting to have a trainer plane + engine - please help
First, try a sim. There are a few around but they will all help you with the hardest part, which is training you in the controls and what they do. Then, buy an inexpensive but decent quality model to learn on. An AXN is a good one, as it flys very well, very slow and can take a few crashes since it's light. The reason I say this is you will crash your first plane a few times while you get the hang of it, and if it is easy to repair or replace so much the better. A small foam electric will often just bounce in a crash, and you can get right back up there practicing, instead of going home and glueing. If you can, find someone who flys to help you set it up. You need to get CG and a few other things right, or even the best pilot would have trouble flying it. The forums are a great place for info so read away in the beginners threads here and on the other forums. There's usually a thread dedicated to each model in existence if you do a Google search, full of good info and tips.

Sign me up please! I am halfway through adding as many scale details as I can to a Dynam 1200mm Mk.IX Spitfire. It's my first Spit, as I refused to crash one due to inexperience (Saw it as disrespectful :) )so made myself wait until I could fly well. Then got distracted by my Camel and half a dozen other models. Got the rivets, paint and cockpit done, sliding canopy, I'll post pics when my new camera gets here next week.

I bought an Electrifly Camel from tower in the US (to AUS). The box had MADE IN CHINA stamped on the side in two inch letters. I've run a HK motor in it for two years, with a HK speedie and a Rhino LiPo. No problems. I get stuff like glue, props and balsa from my LHS when I need it quickly. Why can't we all just enjoy this excellent passtime and the choices we have? :)

RE: Can someone suggest 3D foamie plans?
I built a "purfoamance" and it has honestly been the best 3d/aerobatic plane i've ever had - including good brand ARFs. Lasted me a year and a half and flew fantastically. I learned rolling circles on this one. Search rcgroups for purfoamance, there is a build thread. The build technique is a bit different but trust me, just follow his instructions and it works. Perhaps the only thing I would recommend is to make the tail control surfaces a little stiffer, especially rudder, if you're going to do harcore 3d for a crisper response. 43" wingspan, I first used a keda 20-22 with 10x5 and it flew fine, but wanted a bit more power, so upgraded to an NTM 35-36A 910Kv / 350W running 12x6. Magic! 3s220035c turnigy batts hxt900 servos all round. weighed about 1kg rtf.

RE: Lipo Charger Recommendations
I have the accucel 6 and can recommend it. It is a good charger and will charge any lipo from 1 to 6 cell, any nihm, nicd, lead acid or LiFe. It can balance, discharge and has a good lcd display. There are a lot of very similar chargers for sale but some have balance accuracy issues, and I know this one has fairly good reviews. It's only about $25.

if you are pulling 4.2A, then for reference a 420mah battery will give you up to 6 minute flights. How much weight is light? What model will it be used in? i use nanotech 850mah 2s and they are good. Weigh 50g. A 460mah weighs 33g A 300mah weighs 17g what motor are you using?

RE: Help, Newbie to 3D, plane keeps snapping with up elev.
I'm running 40 or 50% expo and only 40% elevator throw on low rates. High rates is scary, but that's how much control authority you need when hovering. When at speed you need low rates or very very fine movements on the sticks.

RE: Need advice on finding a Foamy
Best model to practice 3d in a space that small would be a profile. They don't look incredible, but they fly incredibly - they can do any manouver (and more) that a bigger model can do, but they are so light you can work in a limited space. Try one of these: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=14522 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=24411 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=17970 They really are great fun and bounce well in a crash, so you can be a bit braver while you practice.

RE: Need help with rolling Circles
I'm just getting a completed circle. Most of the time :) The main trick for me was making it a bit more tail heavy. Also, If you lose altitude, you make your elevator movements a fraction earlier or pull a little more on the elevator. I had to reduce aileron throws at first to give me more time to react. Agreed, really worth getting it figured out. Looks fantastic when you pull it off.

Your 6 year old is up to a 3d trainer? Impressive. I was 31 when i got my 3d trainer [:D] 4lb weight means you will want 800 watts for 3D (200 w /lb), The power system I have closest to this is: NTM 35-48 Series 900KV 80A ESC 13x6.5 4s 3300 40c pulls about 55A (800W), on my 2.1kg extra this is hover at half throttle and endless vertical.

RE: Should I Let Her Fly My Cub?
So you would buy something that is not the correct size (it's 25% smaller) & of obvious poor quality just because it's cheaper? Is that a logical choice? Typical "WalMart" mentality. As far as not R/C related? There are plenty of threads about pilot figures on R/C forums including those related specific to female pilot figures. It is very hard to find quality female pilot figures @ a resonable price/quality level.
My models are smaller, so it would be the correct size for mine. Wish the slimlines came in smaller sizes too. The female pilot figures are rc related, the ice cream girl not so much. She needs a full size plane, which I just don't have in the hangar yet :D

RE: Turnigy 1000mAh Nano or not?
Either of those will do fine. I've used the Turnigy lipos for four years and they are good quality. The 30 to 40c ones will stay a bit cooler under load and therefore last longer, so I always get them instead of the 20C now. Never tried the nanotech, but a friend uses them and he noticed a power increase. However he uses the 45-90c ones, and I don't think you can get them in 1000 size. Basically, the turnigy has higher C (therefore heavier), but the nano will handle high burst currents better (more punch for short periods). But either will work for you.
