RE: Wild hare extra horiz stab problem
I personally have not seen the defect, issue , or whatever you want to call it that my friend had on his wild hare plane, I was looking for advice on what other folks have encountered with this situation so i could let him know and also to help with my decision on purchasing one of the wild hare aircraft. I am not out to bash wild hare or any other maufacturer. I build most of my aircraft and would still purchase one of the wild hare products as it is a great price on the bird and from what i have read they fly great..

Wild hare extra horiz stab problem
I have been wanting a wild hare extra for some time now, but a friend just purchased on and the horizontal stab isnt level, he said he called wild hare and they told him how to fix it or to send it back and they would fix it. I dont think i would like to purchase a plane that has a issue with the elevator alignment Has anyone else have this issue or ihas it been corrected.

Engine for Goldberg Extra 300
We were talking about the Goldberg Extra 300 at our field the other day and the main topic of our conversation was which engine is the most popular for this bird. Ive heard of engines as small as a .61 all the way up to the 180 class 4 strokes being used. Personally my favorite choice would be the Saito 150, but anyway i would appreciate everyones comments and opinions Ive listed as many engines as i could think of and if i missed your choice please post which one and vote in the other column. Thanks Rickey

RE: Seagull Decathlon!!
hey guys while i dont have a sd i do have a extra 300 from seagull. I also workat a hobby shop and see that the sd has the same characteristics as the extra heavy wing. pitch sensitive and good quality. I snapped mine in form about 15 feet winghit first and only damaged thetip of the wing. Imusing a gms 76 in mine and it flies ok but vertical is severly limited, id suggest u guys get at least a 91 something. Hope this helps

horizon hobbies is the distributor of the seagull product line, they have a great track record in the customer service area. THey have a toll free number on their website you can call. I have a seagull model extra 300 and the arf was ok as you continue in the sport you will find that mostly all arf have something that needs attention as did my extra but it wasnt all that bad. Being curious what caused yoour kit to be a dud Rickey

Wing Loading
Hi there, I am looking for information on wing loading. I am wanting to step up to a gas model about 27% or so with a DA 50. My experience is with 60 size aircraft and Iam not wanting a gas model that snaps I know that trainer planes with wing loading in the 15oz to 18 oz range are floaters and anynting under 23oz is still pretty stable going fairly slow. And warbirds in the 30 oz range are easily snapped. But I dont know what range applies to the bigger birds, Ive been told that the wing loading numbers i am familiar with dont apply to the bigger birds. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Rickey

RE: thunder tiger TIGER TRAINER is LOUSY
I may have gotten a bad one, This is the first thunder tiger aircraft I have assembled and i am comparing it to the hobbico avistar, airvista, and the other hobbico trainers. Here is what I found. There was no opening pre cut for the elevator pushrod to exit. THe supplied dowel rods for the rudder and elevator were not long enough to make it to the control horns THe opening for the servos in the servotray was way to small THe formers would break at the slightest touch. THere were no cut outs in the formers for the nose wheel control rod to fti so it would clear the tank. THe covering is sticky back. It is my opinion that for a first time modeler there are just too many problems compared to the ones I have built. Not that I am hobbico fanatic but they dont have the isuuses that the tiger trainerdoes

RE: Seagull Models <span class=
well my grand plan to replace the landing gear wont work, the fuse is 5 in wide and there isnt a gear that will replace it. What I did was take a piece of 1/4 square hardwood and screwed it in between the split in the two gears then I split the 1/4 hardwood in two and ca it behind the gears next to the front of the former that the wing dowels in to havent tested it yet but it does keep the gear from moving.

thunder tiger TIGER TRAINER is LOUSY
For all you new guys do yourself a favor and stay away fron the thunder tiger tiger trainer, I put one togther for one of the guys at our field and to say the least it stinks. THe top of theplane is plastic and the bottom is balsa and its held togther with a sticker LOL LOL. Its nearly impossible to get the tail feathers lined up and unless you have been around models awhile there are so many bad design features you wont know how to correct them. While im not the best builder around i do know a bad model when I see one and this has to be the worst model I have ever been around. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this one.

RE: Seagull Models <span class=
Hate to hear about you guys having the sky gods against ya. So far my biggest problem has been breaking the landing gear. I hate metal bolts on my models with a passion and I changed the gear bolts out to 1/4 20 nylon and unless u grease it in they break, After about 6 broke gear bolts i am going to change out the landing geat with a one piece unit. I havent got used to this bird yet but it does seem to want to land pretty hot. I will say i do like the bird. I put the decals off the graupner extra. THe seagull is a knock off of the graupner and you can get the decals for 12 bucks from hobby lobby. If you want to put the checkerboard on the cowl i would recommend to cut the squares out individually and then clear coat them ,putting the decal on in one piece is a real pain I gave up after 4 hours. I am using one servo on the elevator, I use 2 wheel collars to hold the 2 wires togther then i silver solder in front, in the middle, and at the end of the wheel collars.

I am using one servo for the elevator. I am using 2 wheel collars and I silver soldered in between the collars. I like the hangar 9 fuel dot, I found the fuelers that shut off flow to the carb when fueling are very restrictive. I am using a 2 line system but may be going to a 3 line because i do get some bleed at the carb when filling. congrats glow plug, Looks like the plane is going to be a good one.

I had the elevator set at 25 % expo and 1/4 in of travel on low rates and it did snap out of a tight loop with the airspeed low, It didnt feel snappy , but I did move it down to a little less than 3/8. Hopefully We will have better weather this weekend. So far I think the gms and the extra will be a great combination

ive got a gms 76 on mine too. I had it on another plane this summer and I really like the engine. I kept mine on 20 % oil content for a gallon . It has a really reliable idle and as it got broke in the transition was great. Overall I think you will really like the engine. It seems to pull the extra ok, vertical is limited but acceptable.

RE: RE: Seagull Models <span class=
I got to fly mine today. Although I couldnt tell a whole lot about the plane { We had 15 mph winds } I could tell the plane is sensitive to the elevator I had the recommened throws for low rates and the plane would snap on loops if it didnthave good airspeed. THe Cg was at 4 cm. THe ailerons were a little sluggish at the low rate recommened settings. The plane does track good and I didnt have any problems landing except for using the whole runway LOL If the winds die down and i can tell more ill post again. Rickey

yes your right it was the servo mounts that i rebuilt, and while im here look at the engine mount box there isnt a brace on the bottom and the area where the wings fits the leading edge of the fuse could be strengthened.

RE: Seagull Models Extra 300S .60 Questions
I have a seagull extra and have just started putting it togther, I would advise you guys to check the aileron mounts mine were not glued in good and the triangle pieces were pretty cheeeesy. I ccut the mounts off and used birch for the mounting rails and 1/8 ply for the supports. Also form some of the earlier posts here on rcu make sure you put tail braces on.
